Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Wisconsin Badgers
The winless Nebraska Cornhuskers will travel to Camp Randall Stadium in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for a Big Ten battle versus the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday night at 7:30 pm EST as the forecast calls for rain. The last time these two teams met, the Badgers picked up the 38-17 road win as the Badgers covered the spread as 12.5-point favorites while the over was the play with the total being set at 47 points. The Cornhuskers are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings amongst these two squads while the over is 5.2 in the last seven meetings overall. In their last outing, the Cornhuskers were whipped at home by a 42-28 score at the hands of the Purdue Boilermakers despite putting up 259 rushing yards along with 323 passing yards. On the other hand, the Badgers, after a 7-7 tie at the half, outscored the Iowa Hawkeyes 21-10 in the second half en route to a 28-17 road victory to where they concerned the spread as three-point road favorites while posting 210 yards on the ground in the victory.
Nebraska Cornhuskers's Latest Performance :
Purdue had very few problems putting away a dismal Nebraska Cornhusker squad on the road as they began to pull away midway through the third period as they went up 27-7 after a David Blough touchdown pass to Brycen Hopkins. Blough threw for another touchdown pass late in the quarter while Markell Jones expanded the lead early in the fourth win a six-yard TD run for the Boilermakers as they picked up the much-needed conference win. Nebraska allowed Blough and the Purdue passing attack 328 yards on the day while also giving up 188 yards on the ground along with permitting them to control possession time in holding the ball for 36:16 minutes for the contest. The offense for Nebraska racked up 582 yards, however, with the rushing attack having 259 yards total with Devine Ozibo (17 rushes, 170 yards, 2 TD’s) along with Adrian Martinez (18 rushes, 91 yards) leading the attack while Martinez also threw for 323 yards along with two touchdown passes and a pick in the loss.
Wisconsin Badgers's Latest Performance :
The Badgers faced the Iowa Hawkeyes in week five and the matchup was a back and forth affair as both teams would go in tied at 7 at the half until Alex Hornibrook put Wisconsin up 14-10 midway through the third period on a 12-yard pass to Danny Davis. Nathan Stanley responded for Iowa with a one-yard pass to Noah Fant to give the lead back to the Hawkeyes. Hornibrook threw another touchdown pass this time to A.J. Taylor while Alec Ingold scored on a 33-yard run to put the game out of reach for Iowa while giving the Badgers their third win in four outings. Hornibrook ended the game with 205 yards and three touchdowns while the rushing attack racked up 210 yards total in the win with Jonathan Taylor having 113 yards on 25 carries. Both teams fared well on third down conversions as Wisconsin was 50% for the day (7 of 14) while Iowa ended the game going five for eleven for the game while the Wisconsin defense allowed Nathan Stanley to pass for 256 yards along with two touchdowns and an interception. The Badgers 51st ranked rush defense allowed 148 yards on the ground to Iowa while recording two recovered fumbles in the victory.
How Nebraska Cornhuskers & Wisconsin Badgers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Nebraska is 0-4 ATS while the OU is 2-2
Wisconsin is 1-3 ATS while OU is 2-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Nebraska has not been able to get it together this year as they are yet to win a contest in 2018. On one hand, they are gaining yardage, yet, they are failing to convert those opportunities into scores. Also, their defense is getting pushed around in all fazes of the game while also giving up 39 points per outing to opponents this season. They will certainly have difficulties facing a Wisconsin team that has only lost one game on the year (a 24-21 home loss versus BYU last week) while having the 8th ranked rushing attack in the country averaging 266 yards on the ground while averaging 32 points per outing. On the other hand, their defense is solid as well in giving up just 14.5 points per game while being ranked 18th in total yards allowed with 308 total. In all, Nebraska may be in for yet another disaster on the road in week six.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Wisconsin -18.5
My reason for the pick :
With Nebraska struggling the way that they are, I will take the Badgers at home in this contest as I see them punishing the defensive front for Nebraska throughout the game. Also, the pass defense for the Huskers have been just as awful in ranking 96th in the country. With that being said, Hornibrook and his playmakers will certainly have a solid day in the passing department. In all, look for the defense for the Badgers to neutralize the rushing attack for Nebraska on their way to covering in their second straight game.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 57.5
My reason for the prediction :
The over has been the play in two straight games for the Cornhuskers while also being the result in two of the last three games for Wisconsin. As stated, the Nebraska defense is terrible and will certainly give some ground to Wisconsin as they will score early on and throughout this contest. Nonetheless, due to rain being expected for this matchup, look for both teams to pound the ball as much as possible, thus taking loads of time off the clock. Of course, I trust the Wisconsin offense to get something going in the passing game against a shaky secondary for Nebraska in which to gain some opportunities to put some points on the board; however, look for the run philosophy to rule the day. In all, I will back the under in this contest as Wisconsin will have another solid day on offense versus a Nebraska team that does not have the type of talent or experience that enables them to’effectively compete on a weekly basis.
