Oklahoma Sooners vs Texas Longhorns
The 20th ranked Texas Longhorns will head to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas to take on the 5th ranked Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry on Saturday afternoon at noon. These two teams met on October 14, 2017 as the Sooners picked up the 29-24 win while the Longhorns covered the spread as nine-point underdogs as the total of 61.5 points was not surpassed. In their last outing, the Longhorns won their fourth straight game as they picked up the 19-14 road win over the Kansas State Wildcats in week five as they used a 19-0 halftime lead to cruise to victory. Oklahoma went up 28-9 at the half at home versus the Baylor Bears while outscoring them 38-24 in the second half en route to the 66-33 win to where they covered the spread as 21.5 points favorites while the over was the play. The over has been the call in the last five meeting amongst these two teams while the underdog is also 5-0 in the last five games overall.
Oklahoma Sooners's Latest Performance :
Texas was outscored 14-0 in the second half of their game versus the Kansas State Wildcats in week five, however, scored 19 points in the first half due to a 90-yard punt return by D’Shawn Jamison along with a Sam Ehlinger touchdown pass of four yards to Collin Johnson to put the Longhorns up 14-0. Furthermore, Charles Omenihu sacked Alex Delton in the end zone for a safety while a field goal by Cameron Dicker ended the scoring for Texas in the first half as well as for the game as it would be enough to get the victory. Ehlinger ended with 207 yards total while the rushing attack had 115 yards with Keaontay Ingram leading the attack with 68 yards on ten attempts. The 30th ranked rush defense for Texas allowed 107 yards to Kansas State while Skyler Thompson threw for only 101 yards in the loss for only a 4.4 passes per catch ratio.
Texas Longhorns 's Latest Performance :
The Sooners racked up over 600 yard of total offense in their win over Baylor in week five as Kyler Murray threw for 432 yards along with six touchdown passes while Marquise Brown (5 rec, 132 yds, 2 TD’s), CeeDee Lamb (3 rec, 101 yds, TD), along with Lee Morris (3rec, 61 yds, 2 TD’s) led the receiving corps that averaged 18.8 yards per catch. OU’s 35th ranked rushing attack collected 175 yards on the ground with Kennedy Brooks leading the charge with 107 yards and two TD’s in the win. The Sooner defense allowed only 77 yards rushing to the Bears while Charlie Brewer ended with 400 yards passing with two touchdown passes on a defense that allows 253 yards per game to their opponents.
How Oklahoma Sooners & Texas Longhorns Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Oklahoma is 2-3 ATS while the OU is 4-1
Texas is 2-3 ATS while the OU is 2-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This Big 12 matchup will certainly be entertaining as the Longhorns, allowing 19.8 points to their opponents, will attempt to tame a Sooner offense that is putting up 48.6 points per game. Again, it is looking as if Murray will be under center full time for this matchup (after missing the first series versus KSU due to disciplinary reasons) which really puts Texas under the gun. OU has many playmakers including a rushing attack that is ranked 35th in the nation in averaging 206 yards per game. However, Texas is ranked 30th in rush defense in averaging just 115 yards to tehri opponents.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Texas Longhorns +7.5
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Longhorns in this Big 12 battle in that they have not only played well recently, but, have had solid outings versus the Sooners in this rivalry in their most recent matchups. Furthermore, Ehlinger should have a solid day in the pocket as the Sooners are ranked 97th in the nation in allowing over 250 yards per game. With the being said, expect the Longhorns to really exploit this vulnerability while keeping the game close throughout in which to cover in the end.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 61.5
My reason for the prediction :
I see this matchup as being a struggle within the trenches as Texas, despite not having much success this season in their rushing attack, will continue to pound the ball, regardless, if only to keep OU honest while preventing them from going after Ehlinger consistently. With that being said, the under has been the play in the last two outings for Texas to whom I feel holds much of the momentum entering the game due to their overachiever status thus far in the season.
