Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
New Mexico Lobos vs Colorado State Rams
Colorado State sneaked out a slim 27-24 road win over the New Mexico Lobos in their last meeting on October 20, 2017 as they overcame 320 rushing yards by the home team to pull out a much-needed victory; However, they will meet once again on Saturday at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins, Colorado, for what will likely be another exciting matchup. The Lobos are fresh off a 50-14 road win over the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels as they used a 29-0 halftime lead to cruise to victory while the Rams used a 28-0 lead to be the catalyst in their most recent win over the San Jose Sharks on the road last Saturday. The Lobos are 0-4-1 ATS in the last five contests in Colorado State while being 1-4-1 ATS in the last six meetings, altogether.
New Mexico Lobos's Latest Performance :
New Mexico’s contest in week six was much less stressful as they went up 29-0 at the half and cruised in the second half in winning their second straight road game in 2018 over the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels. The defense allowed the Rebels to convert only three for 15 third downs while giving up 166 yards total for the game. Also, with an average of 1.6 yards per rush along with 3.5 yards per catch, UNLV was doomed in the end as they were only able to hold the ball for 23:12 minutes against a New Mexico defense that has been terrible in yards allowed with 447 per outing. The offense for the Lobos collected 252 yards on the ground with quarterback Sherion Jones leading the attack with 72 yards while Zahneer Shuler had two touchdowns along with 53 yards in the win. Jones had 250 yards passing along with four touchdown passes in the victory as Delane Hart-Johnson had 80 yards and a TD to lead the receiving corps that averaged 11.9 yards per catch.
Colorado State Rams's Latest Performance :
The Rams seemed to be on their way to an easy win over the Spartans of San Jose State last Saturday, however, their defense was caught on their heels as the home team scored 30 points in the third quarter while taking the lead 30-28 late in the third quarter before Izzy Matthews and Rasha Ajayi scored on a one yard touchdown run along with a pick six from quarterback Josh Love to seal the victory. K.J. Karta Samuels ended the game with 162 yards total with four touchdown passes along with two interceptions in the game while Preston Williams has 64 yards on four catches and two scores to lead the receiving corps. Matthews had 125 yards and a touchdown for a rushing attack that had 219 yards rushing for the game. The Rams defense also collected two turnovers for the game while allowing only 1.4 yards per rush to the Spartan as they racked up only 48 total yards against a Rams defense that is ranked 110th in the nation and entered the game allowing 216 yards per game on the ground to their opponents.
How New Mexico Lobos & Colorado State Rams Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
New Mexico is 3-2 ATS while the O/U is 5-0
Colorado State is 2-4 ATS while the O/U is 2-4
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Colorado State certainly needed a win desperately as they had gone through a rough patch in losing four of their first five games to begin the season to where they were outscored 171-76 by their opponents. They hope to take their momentum from week six into Saturday as they battle a New Mexico team that has been up and down on a weekly basis yet is over .500 once again while looking to maintain their offensive punch that they have exhibited in averaging 42 points per game. The Rams have not only dominated this series but have been stellar versus the spread in this matchup, so, this game will be interesting as the Lobos are on a high after weathering the storm to winning two of their last three outings.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: New Mexico Lobos -1
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Lobos in this matchup as I happen to believe that they have the more consistent offense while the Rams are essentially a one-dimensional squad that relies primarily on the passing game to score. Their rushing attack is ranked 118th in rushing for the nation in putting up 114 yards per game while the Lobos, though not have much ability to stop the run lately, are strongest in stopping the run in giving up 183 yards per contest. In all, expect the Lobos to continue their consistency on the ground along with winning their second straight game.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 65.5
My reason for the prediction :
Combined, both these teams allow an average of 35.5 points per game to their opponents at this point in the season. Furthermore, they both allow well over 400 yards per game to their opponent per outing. It is for this reason that I happen to believe that no much defense will be played in this contest as the over will certainly be the strong play. Also, with the Lobos continuing to rack up the yardage both on the ground and in the air, expect them to play very well against a CSU defense that is ranked in the 100’s in every defensive category.
