Miami Hurricanes vs Virginia Cavaliers
The 15th ranked Miami Hurricanes will battle the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday night beginning at 7 pm EST at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia, in an ACC showdown. The last time these teams met was on November 18, 2017 as the Hurricanes picked up the 44-28 home win, yet the Cavaliers covered as 20-point underdogs while the total of 49.5 points was indeed surpassed. In their last outing on September 29th, the Cavaliers were 35-21 road losers versus the NC State Wolfpack in a game to where the Wolfpack racked up 176 yards on the ground while also collecting 257 yards in the air. The Hurricanes picked up the 28-27 home win over the Florida State Seminoles in their last outing as N’kosi Perry threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Brevin Jordan with 11:52 left in the fourth quarter which proved to be the game winner as Miami won its 5th straight game. The under is 5-1 in the last six meetings amongst these teams in Charlottesville while the underdog is 12-2 ATS in the last 14 meetings, overall. The road team is 6-1 ATS in the last seven games amongst these squads.
Miami Hurricanes's Latest Performance :
The Hurricanes pulled out a slim win over the Florida State Seminoles in their last outing as they were able to rack up only 306 yards for the game yet outgaining the Noles by 100 yards. They did not perform well in their rushing attack (102 yards) nor in the passing game (204) as Travis Homer had 70 yards on twenty carries while Nkosi Perry had four touchdown passes which proved to be the difference as he threw the game winning touchdown pass for Miami as they won their fifth straight game. Jeff Thomas led the receiving corps with 76 yards and a TD in the loss while the passing game averaged only 6.4 yards per catch. Miami’s strength has been in their rushing attack this year, however, Virginia will be a great test for them as they are allowing 126 yards per game to their opponents. Furthermore, while the Hurricanes average 42 points per game, UVA allowed 20.4 points per outing.
Virginia Cavaliers 's Latest Performance :
The Cavaliers are coming off a bye week after they lost on the road to the Wolfpack of NC State to where they would not cover the spread as 5.5 road dogs on September 29th. Bryce Perkins has thrown for 1125 yards total with four touchdown passes while Jordan Ellis leads the rushing attack with 478 yards along with six touchdowns on the season. Finally, Olamide Zacchaeus paces the receiving corps with 501 total yards with six TD’s. In all, the Cavaliers are averaging 151 yards per game while their passing game is ranked 76th in the country in averaging 226 yards per outing. Their defense is stout in both pass/rush defense as they are ranked 40th and 37th respectively in giving up 198 and 126 yards per game. They have won two of their last three games, yet, are looking to get back to their winning ways after a forgettable outing on the road versus NC State in their last outing. The Cavaliers are undefeated in Charlottesville for the season.
How Miami Hurricanes & Virginia Cavaliers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Miami Is 3-3 ATS while the OU is 5-1
Virginia is 4-1 ATS while the OU is 3-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Again, this ACC matchup will be a great contrast in styles as the Hurricanes will look to continue their current winning streak while the Cavaliers will be well rested while looking to get back into the swing of things in winning their third game in four outings. It will be interesting to see how Perry plays for the Canes in this game as the Cavaliers will certainly look to stuff their rushing attack (or at least neutralize it) in which to allow him to win the game with his arm. With that being said, look for the QB to either have a big game, or, bomb under the intense pressure that the Cavs will throw his way.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Virginia Cavaliers +_6.5
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Cavaliers in this matchup because they have played much better at home this year as well as because they will be focused after a week off to get a win after an embarrassing offensive and defensive showing versus NC State. The Hurricanes have much to play for as well and may pull out a slim victory, however, count on the home team to keep things close due to their ability to keep Miami’s offense off the field on third downs along with their ability to remain tough in the trenches in battling the number seven team in the country in rush yards allowed.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 48.5
My reason for the prediction :
I happen to see this as an under game in that, as stated, both teams will be looking to have a great defensive showing as the Cavs need some heavy confidence after their lackluster performance in their last outing while the Hurricanes simply do not want to give any type of early confidence to the home team. Besides, UVA is looking to keep the heat on the first place Hurricanes within the ACC Coastal by having an impressive showing that could possibly put them in a tie with a win.
