Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Baylor Bears vs Texas Longhorns
The Baylor Bears will travel to Darrell K Royal Texas Stadium in Austin, Texas, for a Big 12 matchup versus the 10th ranked Texas Longhorns on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm EST. The last time these two teams met was on October 28, 2017 as the Longhorns picked up the 38-7 road win as they would cover as 10-point favorites while the under was the play with the total being set at 53 points for the game. In their last outing, the Bears picked up the 37-34 home win over the Wildcats of Kansas State last Saturday as they needed kicker Conner Martin to nail a 29-yard field goal with :08 seconds left to seal the victory after Skylar Thompson tied the game with a 28-yard pass to Dalvin Warmack. The Longhorns would win the Red River Rivalry versus the Oklahoma Sooners this past weekend by a 48-45 score as Cameron Dicker nailed a 40-yard field goal with only :09 seconds remaining in the game to get the Longhorn victory. The under is 5-0 in the last five games amongst these teams while the road team is 7-3 ATS in the last ten meetings, overall. Furthermore, the Bears are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Austin.
Baylor Bears's Latest Performance :
Baylor also had a close, back and forth affair at home versus the reeling Kansas State Wildcats as they were able to sneak out a slim victory due to a 37-yard field goal by Conner Martin to seal the victory for the Bears with :08 seconds remaining as the Bears have won two of their last three games overall. Charlie Brewer shined under center once again as he collected 296 yards and a score while Jalen Hurd was the recipient of eleven passes for 135 yards receiving in the win. The rushing attack pounded K-State as Trestan Ebner powered in 100 yards on 17 carries as Baylor racked up 261 yards total in the win. look for them to work much harder this week as Texas enters the matchup allowing only 133 yards on the ground while giving up 236 yards in the air, something that Brewers and Hurd can certainly exploit if given the time in the pocket.
Texas Longhorns 's Latest Performance :
Texas moved to even closer to becoming the team to beat in the Big 12 as they picked up a huge win over the Oklahoma Sooners last Saturday in the annual Red River Shootout in Dallas, Texas, as it was a back and forth game throughout with Texas sealing the victory with a Cameron Dicker 40 yard field goal with only :09 seconds remaining in regulation. With the win, the Longhorns won their fifth straight game while relying on their passing attack to do so as Sam Ehlinger threw for 314 yards and two scores with Lil’Jordan Humphrey catching nine passes for 133 yards along with a TD in the win. The rushing attack was dominant as well in racking up 177 yards on the ground with Keontay Ingram leading the way with 86 yards on 13 carries. Texas’ defense struggled as the Sooners picked up 532 total yards with the rushing attack pounding the 45th ranked rush defense for Texas for 222 yards while the passing game averaged 11.5 yards per catch. The Longhorns did, however, collect two turnovers for the game while holding OU to only three of eight third down conversions for the day.
How Baylor Bears & Texas Longhorns Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Baylor is 1-4-1 ATS while the OU is 5-1
Texas is 3-3 ATS while the OU is 3-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be an interesting Big 12 matchup this weekend as both teams will be looking to pick up another huge victory after close contests the week prior. Baylor has a deep offense that ono only has a reliable QB along with playmakers on the outside, Ehlinger has also been very solid in his play this year in leading the longhorns to averaging 32 points per game while allowing them to rise to number 14 in the nation. In all, it will be interesting to see how Baylor’s 10th ranked pass offense handles Texas’’ pass defense that can be a bit shaky at times in giving up big plays.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Baylor Bears +14
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Bears in this contest as I happen to believe that they will give the Longhorns a great game due to the overall efficiency of their passing attack versus a Texas squad that has given up big yardage within their defensive secondary all year. Look for the Bears to also look to try Texas in their rush defense as well in that they are currently averaging 174 yards per game while the longhorns are ranked 45th in the country in allowing 133 yards per outing. This game will certainly be a lot closer than one would think as the Bears will indeed cover the points in a tight, competitive matchup.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 60.5
My reason for the prediction :
The under was the play in last year’s matchup amongst these teams and I happen to believe that it will also be the result in this matchup as well. Look for Baylor to take its chances versus Texas pass defense, however, the Longhorns will attempt to slow the game down due to their rushing attack that averages 158 yards per game. In all, expect some scores to be made by both teams, yet, the total will remain under 60 points for the game in what will be yet another low-scoring conference duel between two teams seeking better positioning within the conference.
