Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Stanford Cardinal vs Arizona State Sun Devils
The 24th ranked Stanford Cardinal will travel to Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, on Thursday night for a Pac 12 battle versus the Arizona State Sun Devils at 9 pm EST. The last time these two teams met was on September 30, 2017 when the Cardinal picked up the 34-24 home win, yet the Sun Devils covered the spread as 17-point underdogs. In fact, the underdog is 3-1-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Arizona State for the series. Also, the under has not only been the play in five of the last six meetings overall amongst these two teams, but, has been the play in four of the last five games at Sun Devil Stadium. Both teams are coming off bye weeks as the Cardinal suffered a 40-21 home loss versus the Utah Utes on October 6th as they continued to struggle in the running game in only garnering 42 yards on the night as they picked up their second straight loss. The Sun Devils suffered a road loss to the Colorado Buffaloes by a 28-21 score on October 6th as well as the Buffaloes had 328 yards in the passing game en route to the win. Eno Benjamin had 120 yards on the ground in a losing effort for Arizona State, however, yet, they would lose their third game in four outings.
Stanford Cardinal's Latest Performance :
KJ Costello leads the Stanford offense in passing yards this year with 1611 yards along with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions for the year while JJ Arcega-Whiteside leads the receiving corps with 541 yards and eight touchdowns. Standard’s dismal rushing attack averages only 86 yards per game and is led by Bryce Love which has 327 yards on the year along with 34 yards receiving for a total of three TD’s, yet, Love is questionable for this game due to an ankle injury. Stanford’s defense is allowing a total of 400 yards per game, however, is only giving up 22 points per outing to their opponents. Nonetheless, in their last three games, they have allowed at least 30 points per game, overall.
Arizona State Sun Devils's Latest Performance :
Quarterback Manny Wilkins leads the 61st ranked passing offense for the Sun Devils with 1446 yards along with 11 TD’s and one pick on the season while N’Keal Harry leads the receiving corps with 481 yards receiving with six touchdowns catches for an average of 14.1 yards per catch. Benjamin is the man in the rushing attack as he has put up a total of 156 yards rushing but has nine touchdowns on the season for a rushing attack that averages 175 yards per outing. The pass/rush defense for Arizona State has been dismal this year, however, is allowing only 21 points per game, good for 35th in the nation. Nonetheless, they may be missing their starting linebacker Jay Jay Wilson in this game who is questionable with an undisclosed injury while the offense may be missing their star receiver and quarterback in Wilkins and Harry due to undisclosed and leg injuries.
How Stanford Cardinal & Arizona State Sun Devils Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Stanford is 3-3 ATS while the OU is 3-3
Arizona State is 4-2 ATS while the OU is 3-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be a pivotal game for both teams as the Cardinal looks to get back into the win column in the Pac 12 north division with a win, yet, the Sun Devils also need a win in which to put pressure on Arizona and Utah in the south division. Look for both teams to be focused in this matchup, however, Stanford may indeed have the advantage with Wilkins and Harry questionable for this matchup. Nonetheless, with the Sun Devils having home field advantage, look for this to be an interesting matchup amongst two struggling teams who are looking for a confidence booster at this point in the season.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Stanford Cardinal
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Cardinal in this game especially with the QB and star receiver for the Sun Devils being questionable for this matchup. Also, look for the Cardinal to continue to rely on their passing attack to put points on the board and with the Sun Devils giving up so many yards on the ground, expect them to get their running game back on track in this contest also even without Love being in the lineup. In all, look for the visiting to pull out a win on Thursday while also putting themselves back into the hunt for the top spot within the north division.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
The under has been the play in two of the last three games for Arizona State while it has been the result in the last few meetings amongst these teams as well. With that being the case, it would indeed be the strong play in this contest on Thursday in that each team is only averaging around 27 points per game this season. Also, despite both defenses being average at best, they are allowing only around 21 points per game thus far. Again, with struggling offenses, I will certainly feel comfortable with taking the under as the defenses will certainly have their time to shine.
