Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Alabama Crimson Tide vs Tennessee Volunteers

The top-ranked team in the nation in the Alabama Crimson Tide will face the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday at 3:30 pm EST at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee.  The last time the Tide met the Vols was on October 21, 2017 as they picked up the 45-7 win while covering the spread as 36.5-point road favorites in the contest.   In their last outing, the Volunteers picked up a huge conference road victory over the struggling Auburn Tigers by a 30-24 score Jarrett Guarantano threw for 328 yards along with two touchdown passes in the win while Alabama blew out the Missouri Tigers at home by a 39-10 score as they went up 30-10 at the half while cursing to victory in the second.  Alabama is 7-1 ATS in the last eight games versus Tennessee while the over has not only been the play in the last four meetings in Knoxville, but, has been the result in five of the last six meetings, overall.

Alabama Crimson Tide 's Latest Performance :

Alabama went up 30-10 over the Missouri Tigers in their last outing and cruised to victory in the second half as their rushing attack proved to be unstoppable as they racked up 184 yards with Damien and Najee Harris combining for 27 rushes for 119 yards along with a score while the two heading monster at QB with Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts combining for 380 total yards with the former having three TD’s.  Jerry Jeudy led the receivers with 147 yards on only three catches along with a TD in a game where the Tide averaged 12.7 yards per catch.  The defense for the Tide was as dominant as ever allowing only 2 yards per rush for the Tigers while holding Drew Lock and the passing game to 142 yards as he threw a touchdown pass along with two picks.  Alabama’s defense also caused three turnovers in the contest while allowing just 13 first downs in addition to limiting the Tigers to converting only six of 16 third down conversions.

Tennessee Volunteers 's Latest Performance :

The Volunteers outdueled the Auburn Tigers last Saturday as they outscored the Tigers 17-7 in the second half en route to a huge victory, thus halting a two-game losing streak.  Jared Guarantano threw for 328 yards along with two touchdowns in the win as Josh Palmer had 84 yards on three catches.  The rushing attack racked up only 70 yards for the game as Ty Chandler had 50 yards on 16 attempts.  And despite Auburn obtaining 448 yards in total offense while going nine for 16 on third downs, they committed three costly turnovers for the game which enabled Tennessee to gain even more momentum particularly with an eight-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Tennessee’s Alontae Taylor to put the Vols up 27-17 late in the third quarter.  Jared Stidham ended the game with 322 yards and two touchdowns yet had two picks in the game as the Tigers fell to 1-3 in the SEC west division.  Tennessee will have a tough task on their hands versus Alabama as the Tide has covered the spread in six of the last eight games, overall.

How Alabama Crimson Tide & Tennessee Volunteers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Alabama is 4-3 ATS while the OU is 5-2

Tennessee is 3-3 ATS while the OU is 3-3

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Tide are continuing their stellar 2018 season in remaining unbeaten while the Vols picked up a huge win over a reeling Auburn team last Saturday and will certainly enter this game with some confidence after halting a two-game skid.  The problem is that the Tide has owned Tennessee the past few years and unless the rushing game, which has proven to be most consistent, finds a way in which to put Alabama on its heels, the trends will certainly continue.  As stated, the Crimson Tide has dominated this series as it relates to the spread in prior matchups, however, it will be interesting to see if the Vols will compete for four quarters as they did versus Auburn to make this game worth watching.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Alabama Crimson Tide -28.5

My reason for the pick :

While I see the Vols scoring some points early in this matchup, the Tide will absolutely dominate in the trenches much the same way they have done all season against their opponents in getting yet another blowout win.  And while 28.5 points seems a bit much, when one considers how much the Tide has dominated Tennessee in the past along with the stellar way that they have played on both sides of the ball all year, they would conclude that the spread may be a bit low for a team such as Alabama against a Vols team that has allowed 36 points on average to their last three opponents.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 57

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the over in this game simply because the Vols continue to struggle on offense, thus meaning that the Tide will be looking to stuff their running game at the point of attack to take away their rushing attack, which happens to be their most reliable option.  Nonetheless, their passing game ranks 94th in the nation with only 207 yards per game and will be battling an Alabama squad that allows only 190 yards per game.  With that being said, look for the Vols to struggle in this game while the Tide will consistently run up the score versus a Tennessee team that has allowed the over to be the play in five of the last six matchups versus the Tide, overall.

Betting trends for Alabama Crimson Tide :

    • Crimson Tide are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game.
    • Crimson Tide are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
    • Over is 4-1 in Crimson Tide last 5 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.

Betting trends for Tennessee Volunteers :

    • Under is 4-0 in Volunteers last 4 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
    • Volunteers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win.
    • Volunteers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games.
