Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Mississippi State Bulldogs vs LSU Tigers

The Mississippi State Bulldogs will take on the 5th ranked LSU Tigers on Saturday night at 7 pm EST at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for a huge SEC showdown.  The Bulldogs are coming off a bye week yet picked up a 23-9 win over the Auburn Tigers at home in their last outing as they hammered the Tigers on the ground in racking up 349 yards total for the game en route to halting a two-game skid.  The Tigers picked up a huge win at home over the Georgia Bulldogs by a 36-16 score as UGA’s defense also were destroyed on the ground in allowing 275 yards for the game as the Tigers also atoned for a 27-19 loss the week prior versus the Florida Gators.  The last time these two teams met was on September 16, 2017 as the Bulldogs blasted the Tigers at home by a 37-7 score as they covered as 7.5 home dogs as the Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in the last four outings versus LSU.  The underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last four also while the over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings amongst these two team in Baton Rouge.

Mississippi State Bulldogs's Latest Performance :

Mississippi State also picked up a huge home win by beating a reeling Auburn team in their last time out by a 23-9 score as their rushing attack collected 349 yards total on the ground for a 6.1 yards per carry average while holding the ball for over 41 minutes.  The defense for the Bulldogs limited the Tigers to only 90 yards rushing along with limiting their passing attack to 5.6 yards per catch.  Again, the Bulldogs halted a two-game skid with the win as they prepare for a two-game stretch to where they will travel to Tiger Stadium this week while returning home to play the Aggies of Texas A&M in week eight.  Nick Fitzgerald has 709 passing yards along with four TD’s and three picks for the season while leading the team in rushing with 513 yards total with three touchdowns on the year.  Osirus Mitchell leads the receiving corps with 13 catches for 242 yards and two TD’s for an 18.6 yards per catch average.

LSU Tigers 's Latest Performance :

LSU took a 16-0 lead at the half on the Bulldogs last weekend thanks to a Joe Burrow rushing touchdown along with three of five Cole Tracy field goals for the game; However, Burrow along with Nick Brossette each scored on a touchdown run in the second half as LSU cruised to victory over the then 2nd ranked team in the country.  The defense for the Tigers capitalized on four turnovers while putting up 475 total yards for the game with 275 of those being on the ground to where Clyde Edwards Helaire having 145 yards on 19 carries while Brossette and Burrow also having 66 and 64 yards respectively.  Finally, Burrow threw for 200 yards in the win for the tigers as they scored 30 points or more in five of seven games this season.

How Mississippi State Bulldogs & LSU Tigers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Mississippi State is 4-2 ATS while the OU is 1-4

LSU is 4-3 ATS while the OU is 5-2

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

LSU will be looking for some payback versus the Bulldogs as they were dominated in every way on the road last year in a blowout loss.  Combine this with the fact that the Tigers showed the country versus the Georgia Bulldogs that they were not about to fall off after a loss to the Gators the week prior, one can bet that the home team will certainly enter the game with tons of confidence.  The Bulldogs are well rested and will also enter the game with confidence not only due to their manhandling of the Tigers last year, but, that they were able to pick up a huge SEC win over Auburn before the bye week.  With that being the case for both teams, expect a highly competitive matchup throughout as both squads will fight to extend their momentum after huge wins.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  LSU Tigers -6.5

My reason for the pick :

I will have to pick LSU to cover in this contest in that they certainly have the revenge factor at play in getting blown out on the road by Miss State last year while they will have a carryover affect from the Georgia game in seeking to establish themselves early within the trenches to get their dominant running game going early and often.  As noted, the Tigers have scored 35 points or more in three of their last four outings while the Bulldogs have been held to only 12 points per game in their last three games.  With that being the case, they must somehow find a way to put some points up on an LSU defense that is allowing only 16.9 point per game to their opponents for the year in which to keep the game close.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 44.5

My reason for the prediction :

While the Bulldogs are ranked first in the nation in points allowed with 12.9 per game along with the under being the play in all but one of their outings in 2018, I must back the over in this matchup as I certainly see  LSU being able to move the ball effectively in this game, primarily due to their punishing running game that dominated Georgia  in their last outing.  Also, with the continued emergence of Burrow at QB for the Tigers, the passing attack has certainly benefited from the effectiveness of the running game as well.  In all, the total will indeed be surpassed due to LSU putting points on the board early and often in what will be a payback game versus the Bulldogs this weekend.
