Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Ohio State Buckeyes vs Purdue Boilermakers

The 3rd ranked Ohio State Buckeyes will travel to Ross-Ade Stadium in Lafayette, Indiana, for a Big Ten battle versus the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday night at 7:30 pm EST.  In their last outing, the Buckeyes picked up the 30-14 road win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers as they shutout the visitors 13-0 after a 17-14 halftime lead en route to the victory.  The Boilermakers also picked up a Big Ten win last Saturday by a 46-7 score at home as the Fighting Illini allowed Purdue over 600 yards of total offense along with 227 yards on the ground.  The last time these two teams met was on November 2, 2013 as the Buckeyes picked up the 56-0 shutout victory as OSU racked up 640 yards of total offense while shutting down the Boilermakers as they only obtained 116 yards total for the contest.  The under has not only been the call in eight of the last ten meetings, but, in five of the last six meetings in Lafayette.  Finally, the Buckeyes are only 2-5 ATS in the last seven games in Lafayette.

Ohio State Buckeyes's Latest Performance :

Ohio State was stuck in a battle at the half versus the Golden Gophers on the road last Saturday, however, outscored the home team 13-0 in the second half on the strength of a Dwayne Haskins touchdown pass the K.J. hill along with two Blake Haubell field goals to seal the victory.  Haskins ended the day with 412-yard passing with three TD’s as Hill led the way with two scores on 187 yards receiving while the rushing attack racked up only 92 yards, 100 yards below their average for he year, as Mike Weber had 51 yards on 13 carries total.  The Buckeye defense collected three turnovers for the game, however, allowed the Gophers 178 yards on the ground with Mohammed Ibrahim having 157 yards rushing along with two TD’s in the loss.  Zack Annexstad passed for 218 yards yet threw two INT’s while Tyler Johnson had 119 yards on eight receptions for Minnesota.  While the Buckeyes remain undefeated, they are 0-3 ATS in their last three game along with going 1-3 ATS in their last four games, overall.

Purdue Boilermakers's Latest Performance :

David Blough threw for 377 yards and three touchdown passes as the Boilermakers jumped out on the Fighting Illini in week seven to pick up the blowout road win.  The rushing game was just as potent as Purdue’s 61st ranked attack rushed for 227 yards on an Illini defense that had no answers throughout the game as Purdue held the ball for 37 minutes while having 29 first downs compared to only 14 for Illinois.  D.J. Knox led the rushing attack with 150 yards on 17 attempts while the Illini was dismal on offense as Purdue’s 53rd ranked rush defense allowed them only 2.2 yards per rush while its passing attack put up only 181 yards as AJ Bush ended the game going 12 for 25 passing for 170 yards total.  After staring the season 0-3, the Boilermakers have won their last three games while covering the spread in their last four outings, overall.  And while they have not had much success versus the Buckeyes, they look to change their fortunes as their 7th ranked passing attack with Blough and company should find some headway versus a pass defense for OSU that allows 222 yards per game to their opponents.

How Ohio State Buckeyes & Purdue Boilermakers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Ohio State is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 3-4

Purdue is 4-2 ATS while the OU is 3-3

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Buckeyes will look to extend its unbeaten streak versus the Boilermakers on Saturday, however, it will not be easy as the Boilermakers are coming in with lots of confidence as they have won three straight.  Nonetheless, this will certainly be a great test for both teams as the Buckeyes will look to find a way in which to win a game that, on paper, will certainly not be a cake-walk, while the Boilermakers will look to remain relevant in the west division of the Big Ten in keeping pressure on Wisconsin, Iowa, and Northwestern.  In all, expect this to be a battle on Saturday with both teams pulling out all the stops to obtain a statement win.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Purdue Boilermakers +14

My reason for the pick :

While the Buckeyes have ran roughshod over their opponents this year, they have also been less than stellar on the road in averaging only 32 points while allowing opponents 28 points during this time.  Also, the Buckeyes have gone 0-2 ATS on the road in 2018.  Purdue, on the other hand, has covered in their last two home games while outscoring their opponents by an average of 33-26 during this time.  Of course, OSU is an entirely different beast and much more skilled and physical than the opponents that they have faced thus far, nonetheless, I feel as though they will keep this game close at home in which to cover the spread with their outstanding passing game along with a defense that is allowing only 23 points per game.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 66

My reason for the prediction :

The under has not only been the result in past meetings amongst these teams, but, has also been the play in three of the last four games for the Buckeyes along with being the result in two of the last three games or the Boilermakers.  This will certainly be a competitive matchup throughout as both defenses while take center stage as this will be a battle in the trenches for four quarters while the total will not surpass 66 points.
