Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Oklahoma Sooners vs TCU Horned Frogs

The 10th ranked Oklahoma Sooners will travel to Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas, to battle the Texas Christian Horned Frogs on Saturday afternoon at 12 pm EST.  The Sooners have dominated this series recently as they have not only won the last three meetings, but, have also covered the spread in each of those contests as well.  The under is 7-2 in the last nine meetings overall versus these two squads.  The Sooners are coming off a loss in the Red River Rivalry versus the Texas Longhorns by a 48-45 score in what was a back and forth affair with Texas capitalizing on a late drive along with a Cameron Dicker 40-yard field goal to seal the victory with only :09 second remaining.  The Horned Frogs also fell to the Texas Tech Red Raiders at home in their last time out by a 17-14 score as they relinquished a 14-10 lead when Jett Duffy scored on a 38-yard run midway through the final quarter that proved to be the game winner, thus dropping the Horned Frogs to 3-3 in the year.

Oklahoma Sooners's Latest Performance :

The Oklahoma Sooners’ defense not only allowed the Longhorns 4.7 yards per rush in their last outing at the Cotton Bowl, but, allowed Sam Ehlinger to throw for 314 yards along with two touchdowns as well with Lil’Jordan Humphry torching the Sooner defense for 133 yards on nine carries and a TD.  For the record, OU has allowed opponents to score an average of 40 points in their last two outings.  On the other hand, their offense put up a total of 532 yards for the game with their 33rd ranked rushing attack collecting 222 yards with QB Kyler Murray collecting 92 yards on eleven carries along with a touchdown while throwing for 304 yards, 4 TD’s along with an interception in the loss.  Marquise Brown also had an excellent day in the air as he had nine catches for 131 yards and two scores for an OU passing game that averages 316 yards per game.

TCU Horned Frogs 's Latest Performance :

TCU has dropped three of their last four games while their offense has only put up 18 points during this time.  Also, after going 2-1 ATS in their first three games of 2018, the Horned Frogs have since been 1-3 ATS in their last four outings, overall.  The defense remains consistent for TCU, however, in that they have allowed only 15 points to their opponents in the last two games.  In their last outing, they only allowed high scoring Texas Tech 353 yards total for the game while their highly ranked passing attack was limited to only 202 yards for a 7.5 yards per catch average.  The defense for the Horned Frogs, however, gave up 151 yards on the ground to the Red Raiders, but, only allowed them to convert five of 15 third down attempts for the game.  Shawn Robinson threw for 290 yards along with two TD’s along with two interceptions in the contest as KaVonte Turpin led the receiving corps with 120 yards on six catches along with a TD catch.  Robinson also led the rushing attack that collected 121 yards for the game with 43 yards total in the loss.

How Oklahoma Sooners & TCU Horned Frogs Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Oklahoma is 2-4 ATS while the OU is 5-1

TCU is 2-4 ATS while the OU is 2-4

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Both the Sooners and Horned Frogs will be looking for a huge win in this contest as OU has dominated the series recently.  Furthermore, Kyler Murry and company will certainly have a challenge on their hands in facing a TCU pass defense that is allowing just 182 yards per game.  On the other hand, the Sooners are putting up over 200 yards rushing per outing and will also look to exploit a solid rush defense for the Horned Frogs that is allowing only 130 yards per.  TCU may indeed come out of their offensive funk this weekend as the Sooners are allowing 27 points per game while their pass defense has been a liability in 2018 in giving up 265 yards per game.  On the other hand, OU has not been very effective in stopping the run as well in that they are allowing 157 rush yards per game.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  TCU Horned Frogs +8

My reason for the pick :

Look for TCU to perform much better versus OU in this contest on Saturday, from an offensive standpoint, as the Sooners have been shaky in defending both the pass and the run this year.  Besides, the Horned Frogs have a very stout defense that has taken up the slack for a lackluster offense in their last few outings, yet, despite this fact, they will indeed have their issues with Murray running the show for Oklahoma.  Nonetheless, the TCU defense is very fast and talented and will serve to neutralize him just enough for the home team to keep this close and competitive.  In all, I will back TCU and the points as Robinson and the offense will provide a lift to the team in getting some points on the board early and often on a shaky defensive unit for OU.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 61

My reason for the prediction :

While I feel that both offenses will put some points on the board in this game, the fact is that the TCU offense has struggled lately.  With that being the case, it will take some time for them to get acclimated to the Sooners defensive scheme.  Once this is done, I happen to believe that the home team will flow well from an offensive standpoint.  On the other hand, OU will certainly find ways to put points on the board versus a talented TCU defensive unit and will keep the game interesting throughout.  In all, I will back the over in this contest as both teams will be looking to pull out all the stops to get an all-important conference victory to atone for huge losses the week prior.
