Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Temple Owls vs Cincinnati Bearcats

The 21st ranked Cincinnati Bearcats will travel to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to take on the Temple Owls on Saturday afternoon at noon for an American Athletic Association matchup.  In their last outing, the Bearcats picked up the 37-21 home win over the Green Wave of Tulane to where they racked up 272 yards on the ground while allowing only 266 yards in total offense to the Green Wave for the game.  The Owls also picked up a 24-17 road win over the Navy Midshipmen as they held their triple option attack to 270 yards while giving  up only five of 13 third down conversions in the game en route to the victory.  The last time these teams met was on November 10, 2017 as the Owls picked up the 35-24 road win as they covered the spread as three-point favorites for the game.  The road team is 7-1 ATS in the last eight games amongst these teams while the bearcats are only 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings with Temple.

Temple Owls's Latest Performance :

Cincinnati got 123 yards and a score from Michael Warren II in their home win over the struggling Tulane Green Wave in their last outing as the rushing attack put up 272 total yards on the ground while Desmond Ridder threw for 174 yards, two TD’s, along with an interception in the win as Kahlil Lewis posted 40 yards on two catches along with two scores for Bearcats, whose passing game is putting up only 212 yards per game.  The defense for the Bearcats allowed only a 20% third down conversion rate to the Green Wave while holding their rushing attack to only 3.5 yards per rush along with 4.3 yards per catch.  Cincy moved to 6-0 for the year while they have covered the spread in two straight game and five of their six games for 2018.  Most importantly, the defense is allowing just 13.7 points per game while the offense is averaging 38 points this season.

Cincinnati Bearcats's Latest Performance :

The Owls 90th ranked rush defense performed admirably versus the dangerous option attack for the Midshipmen last Saturday as they outscored Navy 17-7 in the second half to seal the huge victory.  Navy only racked up 284 yards in the game while not being able to stay on the field with their third down conversion rate being 38% for the game.  Nelson Lewis led the Midshipmen in rushing with 108 yards and a score on 18 attempts while Anthony Russo and the passing game for Temple was the difference in the win as they posted 300 yards total while averaging 9.4 yards per catch.  Russo threw a touchdowns pass along with a pick while Ventell Bryant led the receiving corps with 147 yards and a score for an Owls squad that put up 409 yards total for the game.  Temple has won two straight games leading up to this matchup as their 40th ranked defense in points allowed with 22, has allowed teams to score only 23 points combined during their winning streak.  Furthermore, they have covered the spread in five straight games while possibly obtaining the necessary confidence and motivation due to their play versus Navy to stop another dominant rushing attack for the Bearcats, which are currently averaging 256 yards per outing.

How Temple Owls & Cincinnati Bearcats Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Temple is 5-1 ATS while the OU is 3-3

Cincinnati is 5-2 ATS while the OU is 3-4

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Temple certainly has their work cut out for them as they will be up against a Bearcats team that has really dominated each of their opponents this year.  Their defense ranks in the top twenty in the nation in each major defensive category while the offense ranks in the top 30 in total yards per game (468), rush yards (356), along with points scored per outing (38.3).  Temple, on the other hand, will be looking to extend their winning streak as well as they are only allowing 22 points per game while their pass defense ranked 10th in the country in allowing just 153 yards per outing.  Their offense averages 31 points as they possess a balanced unit that puts up a total of 381 yards per outing.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Cincinnati Bearcats +3.5

My reason for the pick :

This game will certainly be a battle in the trenches as each team will attempt to establish their running game from the start as well as throughout the game.  Again, both teams come in playing well as the Owls are winners of two straight while the unbeaten Bearcats look to overtake the Owls, who are 3-0 in the AAC, in going 3-0 in the conference in their quest to keep pressure on UCF, who leads the conference overall.  The underdog has ruled ATS in the past few matchups amongst these teams and while I expect Temple to play strong in this game, look for the Bearcats to keep things close while also having a chance to pull out the outright victory on the road.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 47

My reason for the prediction :

The under has been the play in three of the last five games for Temple while also being the result in the last three road games for the Bearcats as they are allowing teams only an average of eight points in their three games on the road this year.  Temple, on the other hand, has only allowed 18 points during their last four home games, thus allowing me to state that the under is indeed the strong play for this matchup.  Add into the equation that this game will have huge conference implications, look for the contest to be a low scoring and competitive matchup till the end.

Betting trends for Temple Owls:

    • Under is 6-1 in Bearcats last 7 games on grass.
    • Under is 5-1 in Bearcats last 6 road games.
    • Over is 5-1 in Bearcats last 6 games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game.

Betting trends for Cincinnati Bearcats:

    • Owls are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
    • Owls are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
    • Owls are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win.
