Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Tulsa Golden Hurricane vs Arkansas Razorbacks
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane will take on the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday afternoon at 12 noon at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Arkansas in week eight college football action. These teams have not met since November 3, 2012 as the Razorbacks picked up the 19-15 home score, yet the Golden Hurricane covered as nine-point road underdogs. Both teams picked up losses in their last outing as Tulsa suffered a heartbreaking 25-24 home loss versus the South Florida Bulls as a Coby Weiss 22-yard field goal sealed the win with :02 seconds remaining in the game. The Razorbacks also suffered a huge 37-33 road loss to the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday as they allowed the visitors to score 13 points in the final period as they suffered their sixth straight loss.
Tulsa Golden Hurricane's Latest Performance :
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane also suffered a heartbreaking loss in their last time out versus South Florida as they held a 24-22 lead over the visitors until the Bulls engineered a drive late in the final period and, with a Cody Weiss 22-yard field goal, sealed the victory for South Florida while sending the Golden Hurricane to their fifth straight loss this season. Neither team showed up in their rush defense as the Bulls collected 250 yards on the ground while Tulsa gained 220 yards total with Shamari Brooks having 100 yards and two scores for the game while Tulsa’s 112th ranked passing game only got 79 yards and a touchdown pass from Seth Boomer as the Golden Hurricane lost by two touchdowns or less in their third game in five outings. They look to get back on track versus an Arkansas team that has been just as inconsistent on both sides of the ball on Saturday.
Arkansas Razorbacks's Latest Performance :
The Razorbacks seemed to be on their way to picking up a much-needed victory in their last outing after a Conner Limpert field goal which put them ahead by a 30-17 score midway through the third period; However, things would go south for Arkansas soon after as the Ole Miss rebels stormed back with a touchdown pass from Jordan Ta’amu along with two rushing touchdowns from Isiah Woullard and Scottie Phillips that put the Rebels up by four with only :42 seconds remaining to seal the fate for the Razorbacks. The defense for Arkansas allowed Ole Miss a 60% third down conversion rate while the offense was able to rack up 611 yards total on the day. The rushing attack for the Rebels averaged 5.9 yards per rush for 224 yards while the passing attack, led by Ta’amu, had 387 yards along with two touchdowns and a pick in the win. The Arkansas offense wasted a great day on the ground as Rakeem Boyd had 109 yards and a score for an attack that racked up 299 yards total for the game while Ty Storey threw for only 122 yards and a score in the loss. As stated, the loss was the sixth straight for Arkansas, yet they covered the spread in the last three games, overall. On the season, they have allowed their opponents to score 30 or more points in five out of seven games.
How Tulsa Golden Hurricane & Arkansas Razorbacks Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Tulsa is 3-3 ATS while the OU is 1-5
Arkansas is 3-3-1 ATS while the OU is 3-4
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
While both teams are on a damaging losing skid at this point in the season, the fact remains that both could certainly use a win as the Golden Hurricane along with the Razorbacks are currently allowing 33 points combined to their opponents. On the other hand, their struggling offenses are only putting up 25 points during their current skids. With that being the case, both teams will be looking to exert themselves within the trenches in this contest simply to neutralize what their opponent does best in which to get the victory.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Tulsa Golden Hurricane +6
My reason for the pick :
With two lackluster offenses battling in this matchup, I will take the points and the Golden Hurricanes as, on paper, they have the much better defense of the two. And while the Razorbacks have lost by an average of 17 points in their current six game skid, the Golden Hurricane have dropped their last five outing by only a seven-point average. This, in my opinion, simply means that despite the losses, Tulsa continues to compete. It is for this reason that I will back them and the points in this game.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 55.5
My reason for the prediction :
While Tulsa is more consistent in defending the passing attack of their opponents, the Razorbacks are much more confident in stopping the rush. With Tulsa averaging 210 yards per game on the ground, look for the Razorbacks to establish themselves in the trenches early to prevent their attack from causing any damage over the course of the game. On the other hand, the passing game for Arkansas is only averaging 172 yards per game as the Golden Hurricane will look to eliminate that threat early on by allowing the SEC squad to rely more on their rushing attack, which is currently putting up 168 yards total per outing. Besides, with Ty Storey’s status uncertain as to whether he will suit up for Arkansas due to injury, the Razorbacks may indeed struggle once again at the QB position. In all, with the way both teams have struggled with inconsistency and lack of overall continuity, look for this to be a low scoring affair to where the defenses will pad their stats versus two dismal offenses.
