Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Ball State Cardinals vs Ohio Bobcats
Peden stadium in Columbus, Ohio, will be the site for a MAC showdown against the Ball State Cardinals and the Ohio Bobcats on Thursday night at 7 pm EST. The Bobcats have won three of their last four games with their last being a 49-14 home win over the Falcons of Bowling Green. The Cardinals have switched wins for losses in the past few weeks as they came up on the losing end versus Eastern Michigan last week by a 42-20 score. Nonetheless, Ball State is 3-1 ATS in the last four meetings versus Ohio while the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings amongst these two squads.
Ball State Cardinals's Latest Performance :
The Cardinals were manhandled at home by the Eagles of Eastern Michigan as their defense allowed three touchdown passes long with three rushing touchdowns to the visitors in what was their second loss in three games. Their offense had two turnovers for the day, yet their rushing attack was on point in garnering 227 yards on the ground led by Wil Jones, who had an 80-yard touchdown run for a TD along with Riley Neal who had 13 rushes for 77 yards and a score on the ground. Neal also threw for 157 yards, a TD, along with an interception with Justin Hall leading the receivers with 81 yards on ten catches. Ball State continues to struggle on both sides of the ball with their offense putting up 20 points per game while the defense has allowed 29 points in their last three outings. They may find success versus an Ohio team that is ranked in the lower tier in passing yards allowed, however, as this has been the bread and butter for the Cardinals offense all year long.
Ohio Bobcats's Latest Performance :
The Bobcats have resurrected their season after starting 1-2 out the gate as they have won three of their last four games including picking up a win in a game versus Bowling Green in which they destroyed the Falcons in rushing for 392 yards led by Maleek Irons (116 yards, 12 rushes) along with Nathan Rourke (16 rushes, 101 yards, TD) while Rourke also threw for 193 yards and four touchdowns in the win. Papi White led the receiving corps with 92 total yards along with two TD’s in the victory. The defense capitalized on two turnovers by the Falcons while allowing only 314 total yards in the game. And while Ohio is allowing teams to score 31 points for the year, they have only given up 21 points per game during their last three outings.
How Ball State Cardinals & Ohio Bobcats Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Ball State is 4-4 ATS while the OU is 2-6
Ohio is 4-3 ATS while the OU is 4-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Ohio will be looking to extend their winning ways versus a Ball State team that has been terrible lately. Also, they will be looking to stay on the heels of the RedHawks of Miami, Ohio, who occupies the second place slot within the East division of the MAC conference. With that being the case, look for their 33rd ranked rushing attack to have a solid game versus a Ball State team that allows 193 yards per game. On the other hand, Ball State’s rushing attack is also potent averaging 186 yards per contest while the Bobcats are currently permitting teams to rush for only 154 yards per outing.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Ohio Bobcats -11.5
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Bobcats along with the points for this outing as they have certainly been the most consistent of the two teams lately as well as throughout the year. Besides, the Cardinals have not had much success this year at home or on the road. Their offense averages only 25 points per game while the Bobcats are putting up 26 per contest; However, look for this to be more interesting than one may think early on in that the Cardinals are putting up 252 passing yards per game while the Bobcats secondary has been suspect all year giving up 311 yards per outing. Nonetheless, I will continue to back Ohio in the game as they will pull away late while continuing their winning streak.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over
My reason for the prediction :
There will certainly be points scored in this matchup as I happen to feel as though both teams will perform solidly on offense due to both defenses being very much inconsistent in stopping the run along with the pass throughout the year. With that being the case, I will back the over as I see the Bobcats exerting themselves much more within the trenches while the Cardinals will certainly test the resolve of the pass defense for the Bobcats who are, as stated, giving up well over 300 yards per game.
