Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Georgia Tech Yellowjackets vs Virginia Tech Hokies

Two struggling ACC teams in the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Virginia Tech Hokies will meet at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia, on Thursday night at 7:30 pm EST.  After winning two straight games, the Yellow Jackets suffered a 28-14 home loss to the Duke Blue Devils last Saturday as their rushing attack put up over 200 yards yet were essentially dominated the whole game as the Blue Devils’ Daniel Jones threw three touchdowns for the visitors while the home team lost three fumbles on the day.  The Hokies got back into the win column in picking up a 22-19 road win over the lowly North Carolina Tar Heels in week eight as a touchdown pass by Ryan Willis to Dalton Keene was indeed the difference in putting Virginia Tech up by three with only:19 seconds remaining in the game.  The Jackets are 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings in Blacksburg while the underdog is 11-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings amongst these ACC conference foes.  Furthermore, the under is 5-0 in last five meetings at Lane Stadium amongst these squads.

Georgia Tech Yellowjackets's Latest Performance :

The Yellow Jackets were stung by the Blue Devils in their last outing at home as the Devils score three times in the third period thanks to three touchdown passes by Daniel Jones who ended the night with 206 yards along with an interception.  Tech would put up 228 yards due to the triple option attack, however, fumbled three times in the contest while also not being able to take advantage of three Duke turnovers.  TaQuon Marshall threw for 91 yards and a TD while rushing 16 times for 41 total yards.  Jerry Howard led the rushing attack with 62 yards and a rushing score for Georgia Tech, who halted a two-game winning streak with the loss.  Though their offense only garnered 14 points in this matchup, they were averaging over 60 points during their two-game winning streak and may likely find success on the ground versus a Hokies squad that is beginning to stink it up as it relates to defending the rush lately.

Virginia Tech Hokies's Latest Performance :

The Hokies had tons of trouble with UNC last weekend as they not only outgained them in total years by a 542-375 margin, but, they were also pounded on the ground by giving up 235 yards for the game while allowing 8.2 yards per catch in the contest as well.  And while the Hokies were able to obtain 154 yards on the ground led by QB Ryan Willis with 88 yards and a TD, he also threw two picks in the game which were costly as well.  Willis would, however, make up for his mistakes late in the game as he threw two TD’s to bring the Hokies within two points along with the other being the game winner as Willis found Dalton Keene for a one-yard pass to seal the come from behind victory.  The Hokies have won two of their last three games, however, they have been up and down on both sides of the ball as their offense, which puts up 32 points for the season, is averaging 25 points per outing while the defense has continued to give up 25 points per game during this time while allowing over 400 yards of offense per game to their opponents.  The alarming statistic from their last outing is total rush yards allowed which has always been a staple of their defensive unit.  With Georgia Tech and its triple option coming to town, things could very well get ugly very quick.

How Georgia Tech Yellowjackets & Virginia Tech Hokies Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Georgia Tech is 2-5 ATS while the OU is 4-3

Virginia Tech is 3-3 ATS while the OU is 3-3

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Despite the Hokies not playing well at all versus an inconsistent and struggling UNC team in their last outing, they continue to be in first place in the Coastal division of the ACC while Georgia Tech finds themselves in the cellar as they are now 1-3 in the division with their loss to the Blue Devils last weekend.  While Virginia Tech could use a win to stay atop the division while separating themselves from Virginia who are directly on their heels, the Yellow Jackets can still make some noise if they are able to pick up a victory on Saturday as they have Miami, Virginia, along with UNC on their remaining schedule.  In other words, taking out the Hokies could very well provide much needed confidence to win out their remaining division games thus ending with a higher seeding.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Virginia Tech Hokies -6

My reason for the pick :

I will have to back the home team in this contest as the Yellow Jackets have simply not played well versus ACC competition while also going only 1-3 ATS versus the conference in 2018.  Of course, Marshall and the first ranked rushing attack in the country will certainly put some points up in this game, however, they have also had turnover problems in their last matchup and with a Hokies team that was punished on the ground by a lowly UNC team last week, expect Virginia Tech to really pressure the Yellow Jackets throughout the game while dominating in the trenches at home in a must win game.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this contest as the Yellow Jackets’ option attack will be neutralized as the trends suggest that they do not play well after a bad loss such as the one with Duke last Saturday while they are also not effective at facing teams with a winning record nor either of those from the ACC, for that matter.  Virginia Tech will not score much either as their offense has been up and down lately and because the Yellow Jackets defense has performed well throughout the season in allowing only 366 total yards per game.  In all, look for the under to be the strong play in this ACC Coastal showdown on Saturday.

Betting trends for Georgia Tech Yellowjackets:

    • Yellow Jackets are 0-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
    • Yellow Jackets are 0-6-1 ATS in their last 7 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game.
    • Yellow Jackets are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games on grass.

Betting trends for Virginia Tech Hokies:

    • Under is 5-0 in Hokies last 5 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
    • Under is 4-0 in Hokies last 4 games following an ATS loss.
    • Under is 21-5 in Hokies last 26 Thursday games.
