Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Miami Hurricanes vs Boston College Eagles
Two surging ACC teams in the Miami Hurricanes and the Boston College Eagles will meet in week nine of the college football season at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, on Friday night beginning at 7 pm EST. These teams have not met since September 1, 2012 when the Hurricanes picked up a 41-32 in Chestnut hill as they would not only cover as two-point favorites, but, the over was the play in this matchup. In their last outing, Miami suffered a 16-13 road loss to the Virginia Cavaliers as a Malik Rozier 11-yard rushing touchdown with only three minutes remaining tightened the lead to 16-13 in favor of UVA; However, time would eventually run out on the Hurricanes, who ended up losing their first game in five outings. The Eagles shut out the Louisville Cardinals in the second half after going up 24-20 at the half en route to a 38-20 home victory to where they rushed for 251 yards in the contest. The under is 5-1 in the last six games amongst these two ACC squads while the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, overall. Finally, the Hurricanes are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings.
Miami Hurricanes's Latest Performance :
In a game where both offenses struggled, Miami’s offense was worse off in their matchup with the Cavaliers as they outgained UVA 339-231 in total yards yet had three interceptions along with 71 yards in penalties in the loss. The rushing attack was decent in putting up 149 yards in the contest with Travis Homer leading the way with 95 yards on eight rushes while their two QB system while Perry and Rozier struggled as they combined for 190 yards, zero TD’s, along with three interceptions. The aggressive defense for Miami allowed only 92 yards on the ground while their stout rush defense allowed 3.4 yards per carry to UVA. Its plain to see that the Canes are struggling due to their offense which continues to put up 37 points per outing, however, they will certainly need a spark from their rushing attack that averages 188 yards per game in this contest as BC will certainly look to that that area away in which to tee off on a struggling passing attack.
Boston College Eagles 's Latest Performance :
Louisville stayed in the game in the first half thanks to a Malik Cunningham one yard run along with two three yard runs by Jawon Pass and Hasaan Hall as they were down by only four after a half of play; However, they were blanked in the second half as BC scored 14 in the final period by rushing touchdowns by David Bailey and Jeff Smith to seal the victory on October 13th as the Eagles moved to 2-1 in the ACC Atlantic division. With NC State’s loss to Clemson last weekend, they came one step closer to acquiring the second place slot despite losing to the Wolfpack 28-23 only a week earlier. The 21st ranked rushing attack for Boston College put up 251 yards on the Cardinals and will look to crank this area of their game up once again versus a very stingy rush defense for the Canes that allow slightly over 100 yards on the ground per contest. This means that the Eagles, which average 220 yards per outing in the passing game, will need to test this 2nd ranked pass defense for Miami in which to take the pressure off their running game for this contest.
How Miami Hurricanes & Boston College Eagles Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Miami is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 5-2
Boston College is 5-2 ATS while the OU is 5-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Miami has allowed just 15 points per game to their opponents in their last four games while their offense has put up 29 points. And despite them falling on the road to Virginia by three points, the defense played very well. On the other hand, the offense racked up 399 total yards yet Malik Rozier along with N’Kosi Perry threw three interceptions for the contest. The loss was big for the Hurricanes in that they lost a golden opportunity to advance in the ACC Atlantic rankings Virginia sits in the second place slot in the division. Of course, with a matchup with first place Virginia Tech in a few weeks, the Hurricanes continue to have a small shot at making a run to the first place slot.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Miami Hurricanes +2.5
My reason for the pick :
I will have to back the Hurricanes in this instance simply because I feel that their defense will stifle the Eagles and their dominant running game while their passing game has been average (at best) with Brown at QB and with the Hurricane pass defense being aggressive all year long, they will certainly run into problems throughout the matchup. With that being the case, look for Miami to get things back on track in this matchup in installing their two QB system with both Rozier and Perry at the helm at various times in the game. And while getting a win will not be easy in Chestnut Hill as the Eagles are undefeated at home this year, look for Miami to cover in this matchup while have a golden opportunity to win outright due to their overall defensive prowess.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the under in this matchup because the Miami defense will certainly set the tone for this huge ACC matchup as they understand that they squandered a great opportunity to gain some ground within the division in their loss to Virginia last weekend. With that being said, look for their defense to be the tip of the spear in getting a win over a BC team that has been much more consistent in the run game in 2018. However, as stated, the Canes rank in the top 10 in stopping the run, thus making it that much harder for the home team to dominate on the ground. Miami is also playing musical chairs with their QB’s these days and will put some points on the board, however, their offensive unit will not be in sync for much of the game as a result of these changes. In all, the under is the strong play in this matchup on Saturday in what will be an intriguing yet low-scoring ACC matchup.
