Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Utah Utes vs UCLA Bruins

The Utah Utes are flying high at this point in the season and will travel to the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, California, to battle the UCLA Bruins on Friday night at 10:30 pm EST.  The Utes are coming off a 41-28 home win over the USC Trojans as they rushed for 200 yards for the game while holding to Trojans to only a 2.4 yards per carry average for the game.  The Bruins got away with a slim victory over the Arizona Wildcats last Saturday in a 31-30 win as a Joshua Kelley 28-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter was the difference as it reclaimed the lead for UCLA, thus allowing them to win their second straight outing.  These teams met in November 3, 2017 as Utah picked up the 48-17 home win as they covered as 9.5-point favorites.  The Utes are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings versus these squads while the road team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings, overall.  The under is 5-2 in the last seven games amongst these two squads.

Utah Utes's Latest Performance :

The Utes have won their last three games while averaging 40 points per outing during this time.  On the other hand, their defense is allowing 19 points per outing while on their winning streak.  They tied their highest point total allowed for the second time this year as they gave up 28 points to the USC Trojans last weekend as they gave up only 205 total yards for the game.  The Utes, on the other hand, had 541 yards for the game as they racked up 200 on the ground with Zack moss having 136 yards.  Tyler Huntley threw for 341 yards along with four TD’s in the win.  Huntley also scored a rushing touchdown in the game while having 33 rushing yards on 16 carries.  Furthermore, the rushing game for the Utes have been dominant this year in averaging nearly 200 yards per outing as they will look to have success versus the Bruins who allow 194 yards per game for a 101st rank in the country.

UCLA Bruins's Latest Performance :

The Bruins scored 30 points in their last two outings as Wilton Speight and Dorian Thompson Robinson threw for three touchdown passes with Theo Howard having 84 yards on three catches.  Also, Joshua Kelley 36 carries on 136 yards and a touchdown for a rushing attack that put up 153 yards for the game.  In all, the Bruins, despite going 0-5 to begin the season, has now won their last two games while being 2-2 in the Pac 12 in addition to being tied with the Colorado Buffaloes, who currently occupies the third place slot.  And while they have lost to the Buffaloes earlier this season, they continue to have remaining games versus the top ranked team in the Utes along with the second-place squad in the Trojans.  In other words, there is a slight possibility that the Bruins can somehow turn things around in the conference this year, and a win over the Utes will be a great start.

How Utah Utes & UCLA Bruins Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Utah is 4-3 ATS while the OU is 4-3

UCLA is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 4-3

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Both teams have picked up huge wins in recent outing, so, one can certainly expect an intense struggle throughout this matchup as both teams will be looking to extend their good fortune.  Of course, Utah has much to lose being in the top spot within the Pac 12 South division while the Bruins are playing with house money as they were winless until two weeks ago, yet find themselves 2-2 in the division and vying for a third place slot or better in the coming weeks.  This is shaping up to be a defensive struggle with so much on the line along with both defenses playing much better lately.  In fact, Utah certainly has a huge advantage of the defensive front as their defense has been dominant for much of the season in allowing only 18 points per outing, good for 16th in the nation.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  UCLA Bruins +10

My reason for the pick :

The Bruins have gained motivation in their last two games and are looking for their third straight win; However, they will have to do this versus a Utes team that has a punishing running game along with great defense.  I will be honest and say that I certainly do not believe the Bruins will win this matchup; However, with them being at home, I expect this to be a close matchup with the Utes pulling out a victory after some minor scrapes at certain points during this game.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 55.5

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this game as the Utes will bring the defense, once again, versus a Bruins team that has stepped it up on the offensive end in their last two games.  The problem is that Utah is only allowing teams to average 18 points per game while being ranked 7th in the nation in total yards allowed with 289.  And with the Bruins only allowing just 19 points to their opponents during their two-game winning streak, expect this to carry over versus a potent yet inconsistent offense for Utah.

Betting trends for Utah Utes:

    • Utes are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games on grass.
    • Utes are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Friday games.
    • Over is 5-1 in Utes last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.

Betting trends for UCLA Bruins:

    • Bruins are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games.
    • Bruins are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games following a straight up win.
    • Over is 4-1 in Bruins last 5 games on grass.
