Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Clemson Tigers vs Florida State Seminoles
The 2nd ranked Clemson Tigers will travel to Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, to face the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday afternoon at 12 pm EST in an all-important ACC matchup. Clemson picked up the win in their last matchup on November 11, 2017 by a 31-14 score while covering as 16.5-point road favorites. The Tigers are also coming off a 41-7 win at home over a decent NC State Wolfpack squad as they held them scoreless in the first half while going up 24-0 and ultimately cruising to victory. The Seminoles picked up a 38-17 home win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons last Saturday as they got two touchdowns from QB Deondre Francois along with two from Cam Akers as they won their third game in four outings. The Tigers are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games versus FSU while the over is 7-2 in the last nine meetings in Tallahassee.
Clemson Tigers's Latest Performance :
Clemson has remained dominant throughout the season. They have been great at home, of course, but, on the road, they are outscoring opponents by 30 points. In fact, their last road game saw them destroy Wake Forest by 60 points. Nonetheless, they are in first place within the Atlantic division as they took on the second-place team in the decision in NC State in their last home matchup last Saturday and showed the country that they are worthy of their second-place rank in the country. The defense totally shut down Ryan Finley and the Wolfpack as they allowed only 297 total yards for the game while collecting three turnovers for the night en route to a 41-7 blowout victory. And while the Tigers only put up 91 yards on the ground, their passing attack went for 380 yards on a shaky defensive secondary for the Wolfpack as Trevor Lawrence threw for a touchdown with Tee Higgins having 119 yards along with a TD. Again, the rushing attack was not as effective, yet Travis Etienne (39 yards, 3 TD’s) and Lyn-J Dixon (25 yards, TD) paced the attack with key runs at critical points in the game. It will be interesting to see if Akers can make some headway against Clemson’s defense that allows 120 rush yards per game. Nonetheless, Clemson’s defense is ranked in the top five in every other major defensive category this season.
Florida State Seminoles's Latest Performance :
The Seminoles have picked up some momentum recently as both their offense and defense were the catalyst. They have outscored their opponents in their last three wins by an average of 15 points while the defense gave up only an average of 20 points. Their offense, on the other hand, averaged 34 points during their current winning streak. Nonetheless, they are ranked 5th within the ACC Atlantic division. They went to 2-3 in the division last weekend as they whipped up on the lowly Wake Forest Demon Deacons as Cam Akers and Deondre Francois both had touchdowns in the second half as FSU blew the game open by outscoring Wake Forest 17-7 in the half en route to the victory. François ended the game with 341 yards along with two touchdown passes while Akers led the rushing attack, which put up 130 yards for the day, with 96 yards along with a couple scores as well. Nyqwan Murray led the receiving corps with 131 yards along with a TD catch on eight receptions. The defense allowed only a 2.1 yards per carry average to the Demon Deacons while Sam Hartman threw two touchdowns passes and an interception while throwing for 227 yards for the contest.
How Clemson Tigers & Florida State Seminoles Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Clemson is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 3-4
Florida State is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 4-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Noles would love to get a win over the Tigers on Saturday, however, it will not be easy as their defense continues to control the trenches versus opponents while the Seminoles, despite their recent play, has not been consistent all season in this area. Keep in mind that all FSU’s wins this year came against sub .500 teams while their loses came against the likes of Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Miami. With that being said, this should be an interesting game as the Seminoles are looking for an upset this weekend at home where they have won their last three games.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Clemson Tigers -17
My reason for the pick :
While the Seminoles are 3-0 in their last three home games, they were victories over Wake Forest, Northern Illinois, and Samford. Of course, Clemson is no way near the caliber of team that they have beaten at home this year. Combine this with the fact that Clemson has been as dominant on the road than they have been at home in 2018, I will back the Tigers to roll in this ACC matchup on Saturday as I feel as if the road team will exert their dominance early and often on an inconsistent FSU squad that has been up and down all year.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 51
My reason for the prediction :
Surprisingly enough, the under has been the play in all of Clemson’s home games this year; On the other had the over has been the result in each of their road games. Also, the over has been the play in three of the last four games for Florida State recently. And with the Tigers performing so well on the road this season, I will expect the over to be the play as on the strength of Clemson’s style of play as the scoreboard will light up constantly. Of course, the home team will put some points on the board as well, nonetheless, look for the Tigers to cruise while allowing the total to surpass the 51-point total during this matchup.
