Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs Georgia State Panthers

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will travel to Panthers Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, to battle the Georgia State Panthers on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm in a Sun Belt conference showdown.  The Chanticleers are coming off a 24-13 road win over the UMass Minuteman as their offense came alive in the second half in scoring 28 points after putting up only three in the first half en route to halting a two-game losing streak.  The Panthers suffered a 51-35 road loss to the Arkansas State Red Wolves in their last time out as they could not recover from a 34-7 halftime deficit despite scoring 28 in the second half as they have lost two straight games, overall.  The last time these teams met was on October 7, 2017 as the Panthers picked up the 27-21 road win over Coastal as they also covered as one-point favorites for the contest.

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers's Latest Performance :

Coastal halted a two-game skid with a 24-13 road win over the Minutemen of UMass last Saturday as they allowed only seven points to the home team in the second half while the offense heated up with Marcus Outlow (17 rushes, 91 yards, TD) along with QB Fred Payton (107 yards, 2 TD’s, INT) spearheading the offensive attack late in the game.  Receiver Michael Williams was unstoppable as he racked up 153 yards and a score for a passing attack that averaged 12.2 yards per catch to win their first Sun Belt conference win of the season.  The Chanticleers have had a drop-in scoring from 31 points per game for the season to only 21 points per in their last three games.  On the other hand, their defense has also took a step back during this time as they are giving up 34 points per game.  They, however, possess the 11th ranked passing attack in the country which will look to exploit the Panthers 125th ranked rush defense that is allowing 248 yards per outing.

Georgia State Panthers's Latest Performance :

The Panthers were drubbed on the road by Arkansas State in their last outing as they allowed 34 points in the first half en route to giving up 530 total yards to the Red Wolves who dominated on the ground with 273 total yards for the game led by Marcell Murray with 115 yards rushing along with a TD.  Georgia State’s 94th ranked pass defense gave up 257 yards to Justice Hansen as he threw three touchdown passes while Justin McInnis had six catches for 86 yards along with a TD as well.  the Panthers’ Dan Ellington threw for 250 yards along with three TD passes as well as having 52 yards on 18 carries in the loss while Tra Barnett ended the game with 95 yards along with a touchdown catch.  The Red Wolves won the game despite racking up 109 yards in penalties while Georgia State had 80 yards worth for the contest along with two lost fumbles in defeat.

How Coastal Carolina Chanticleers & Georgia State Panthers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Coastal Carolina is 4-3 ATS while the OU is 3-3

Georgia State is 2-4-1 ATS while the OU is 4-3

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Both the Chanticleers and the Panthers are ranked at the bottom of the Eastern division of the Sun Belt Conference with a record of 1-2.  The bad thing for each is that they have Troy, Appalachian State, and Georgia Southern in this division who are each 3-0 thus far.  With that being the case, look for this matchup to be a rather low scoring affair as both offenses are very limited as it relates to how creative they can be in which to put points on the board.  Of course, both have been horrible on the defensive side of the ball lately, so, look for the defenses to perform much better versus two mediocre offenses on Saturday.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Coastal Carolina Chanticleers -3.5

My reason for the pick :

While the Panthers have not performed well on offense this year, I expect this to be a back and forth affair to where both teams will battle within the trenches to gain some type of advantage, particularly Coastal who lives by their dominating rushing attack.  And while the Panthers are ranked in the lower tier of football teams in the country in stopping the run, I envision the Chanticleers taking advantage of this vulnerability while sneaking out of Atlanta with a slim victory.  Besides, this could very well be a payback game for Coastal as they were beat up at home in their last matchup with the Panthers.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 56

My reason for the prediction :

The under has been the play in three of the last four games for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers while also being the play in two of the last three home games for the Panthers.  With that being said, when combined with the way in which both offenses have struggled lately, this will certainly be an under matchup as both will continue to be inconsistent on the offensive end.  As stated, while both defenses have not exactly been stellar up until this point, they will look much better, particularly for the Panthers as Coastal may indeed be missing their starting QB in Kilton Anderson and is questionable for yet another matchup with an ankle injury.

Betting trends for Coastal Carolina Chanticleers:

    • Under is 4-0 in Chanticleers last 4 vs. a team with a losing record.
    • Over is 5-1 in Chanticleers last 6 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
    • Chanticleers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.

Betting trends for Georgia State Panthers:

    • Panthers are 0-3-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
    • Panthers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
    • Panthers are 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 conference games.
