Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Navy Midshipmen vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The 3rd ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish will travel to Navy-marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland, to battle the Navy Midshipmen on Saturday night at 8 pm EST.  The last time they met, the Irish picked up the 24-17 home win while the Midshipmen covered the spread at 21-point underdogs.  The Irish are 1-4 ATS in their last five meetings versus Navy while the under dogs are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, overall.  The Fighting Irish are coming off a 19-14 home win versus the Pitt Panthers in their last time out as an Ian Book touchdown was the difference as Notre Dame retook the lead with 5:43 remaining in the game while ultimately getting the victory to remain undefeated.  The Midshipmen came up short versus the Houston Cougars at home as they suffered a 49-36 loss as D’Eriq king threw for 413 yards along with three TD’s for Houston in the win.  The over is 4-1 in the last five games in Annapolis amongst these two squads.

Navy Midshipmen 's Latest Performance :

Navy has dropped four straight games as their offense is in disarray as they are averaging only 25 points in their last four games, a far cry from the 38 points they averaged in their first three outings of the season.  The defense, on the other hand, has allowed 35 points or more during their losing streak while they are 0-4 ATS during this time.  Nonetheless, despite their loss to Houston in their last time out, they looked much like the Navy of old in collecting 344 yards on the ground as Garrett Lewis threw for 138 yards along with a touchdown and an interception while rushing for 56 yards on 22 carries.  Malcolm Perry led the rushing attack with 97 yards and a score.  Also, Taylor Jackson led the receiving corps with 120 yards along with a TD catch.  While their defense is very shaky, at best, their rushing attack comes into this matchup ranking third in the nation with 309 yards per game and will go against an Irish rush defense that is allowing a tad over 130 yards to their opponents on the ground.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish's Latest Performance :

Notre Dame picked up their seventh win of the year with a 19-14 home win over the Pitt Panthers last weekend as Ian Book came through once again for the Irish as he threw a 35 yards TD pass to Myles Boykin to allow the home team to take the 19-14 advantage with five minutes remaining.  And while Book ended the game with two interceptions, he also ended with 264 yards and two touchdowns in the win while Boykin had 88 yards receiving and a touchdown in the victory.  The defense only allowed 242 yards total to the Panthers while giving up 116 yards rushing as Quadree Ollison had a rushing score along with 50 yards total on the day.  The Irish have dominated Virginia Tech and Wake Forest on the road in their only two games of the season by winning by an average of 26 points.

How Navy Midshipmen & Notre Dame Fighting Irish Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Navy is 1-6 ATS while the OU is 4-3

Notre Dame is 4-3 ATS while the OU is 3-4

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Navy looks to end a long four game losing streak to where their rushing attack has been up and down.  Nonetheless, with Notre Dame being stingy in their rush defense, they will certainly have to bring their A game in which to make some headway in which to keep this game close while also giving themselves a chance to pull off an upset.  With that being said, Book may be the key player for Notre Dame in this game as Navy’s defensive secondary is allowing 253 yards per game, good for only 102nd in the nation.  With over 1100 yards on the season along with 11 TD’s and three picks on the year, look for him and Boykins to test the Midshipmen secondary, once again, in what will be an interesting matchup in South Bend.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Navy Midshipmen +24

My reason for the pick :

I will back Navy in this matchup because the Irish has seemed to slow down on offense recently.  As stated, their average win this year versus Ball State, Vandy, Michigan, Stanford, and Pitt are a combined nine points.  Of course, Navy is on another level with its triple option attack, however, I happen to feel that their last outing can indeed give them the confidence they need in which to play well in this matchup.  It is for this reason that I will take the 24 points and lay them with the home team as the triple option attack can certainly expose a defense that is playing less than their best, which is what it seems to be the case with the Irish at this point.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 54.5

My reason for the prediction :

The Midshipmen will preach ball control in this matchup as they simply do not want Book and the Notre Dame offense to spend more time than they need to only the field as the Irish are sure to eventually exploit their awful pass defense.  In all, look for this game to be one where the battle in the trenches will go back and forth as neither offense will be able to gain any type of consistency throughout, thus allowing the under to be the strong play.
