Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Oregon Ducks vs Arizona Wildcats
The 21st ranked Oregon Ducks will travel to Wildcat Stadium in Tucson, Arizona, to face the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday afternoon at 10:30 pm EST for a Pac 12 showdown. The last time these teams met was on November 18, 2017 as the Ducks picked up the 48-28 road win as they also covered the spread as three-point favorites. The Ducks, however, are only 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Arizona. The would fall to the Washington State Cougars by a 34-20 score as they were held scoreless while going down at the half by a 27-0 score from which they could not recover even after outscoring the Cougars 20-7 in the second half. The Arizona Wildcats are coming off a 31-30 road loss to the UCLA Bruins as they rushed for 289 yards on the day, yet Wilson Speight and Joshua Kelly scored a combined three touchdowns for UCLA to pull out the slim victory. The home team is 4-1 ATS in the last five matchups while the under is 5-0 in the last five meetings.
Oregon Ducks's Latest Performance :
Oregon was on a two-game winning streak before they were humbled by Washington State on the road last weekend as they allowed four touchdowns to Gardner Minshew for the Cougars while he threw for 323 yards along with two picks while Dezmond Patmon led the receiving corps with 81 yards and a score in the win. QB Justin Herbert threw for a touchdown while also rushing for one as well for the Ducks while CJ Verdell ended with 55 yards on 12 carries. The Cougars simply made more plays on both sides of the ball than the Ducks in this game. With that being said, Oregon is 4th place in the Pac 12 North division as they are 2-2 in the division with only a game on the road at Utah being their most important. Their other games are at Oregon State, while having home games versus UCLA along with Arizona State, all cellar dwellers within the Pac 12.
Arizona Wildcats's Latest Performance :
The Wildcats are currently in 5th place within the Pac 12 South division while they are also losers of three of their last four games. Their last loss came on the road versus the UCLA Bruins last weekend as Wilson Speight threw for two touchdown passes for UCLA while Joshua Kelly ran for 136 yards and a touchdown to pace the Bruins in the win. On the other hand, Shawn Poindexter caught two touchdown passes along with collecting 105 yards from Rhett Rodriguez (231 yards, 2 TD’s, 2 INT’s) in the loss while the rushing attack was paced by JJ Taylor with 19 rushes with 154 yards and a score. Nonetheless, the Wildcats would come up short in this outing as it marked the third time in four games to where Arizona lost a game by seven points or less.
How Oregon Ducks & Arizona Wildcats Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Oregon is 2-5 ATS while the OU is 3-4
Arizona is 4-4 ATS while the OU is 2-6
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Oregon beat the Wildcats by 20 points last year, however, Arizona has played close games at home all season as they have put up 129 points compared to 100 for their opponents. With that being the case, the Ducks have been awful versus the spread this year as they are 2-5 for he year, however, the Wildcats are 4-2 ATS in their last six games overall. Look for this to be a run-oriented game as both teams are averaging just below 200 yards per game while the Oregon rush defense is ranked 22nd in the county as opposed to the Wildcats, who have been terrible in defending the run, in giving up 196 yards per outing.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Oregon Ducks -9.5
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Ducks in this instance in that they simply have the better, more consistent rushing attack while also have a rush defense that can neutralize the solid rushing attack or the Wildcats which can allow them to pick up the win while covering the points in this matchup. And while the Ducks pass defensse can be very suspect as was shown versus Washington State, the Oregon offense can be potent as well and will score some points on an Arizona defense that has struggled all year. With that being said, look for the Ducks to atone for their last outing in this matchup on Saturday.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 65
My reason for the prediction :
The under was not only the result of last year’s matchup amongst these teams, but, has been the play in four of the last five games for the Wildcats while also being the result in four of the last six matchups for the Ducks. And while I happen to believe that the Ducks will score some points in this matchup, the total will not surpass the 65-point mark in that both teams will not capitalize on much of their scoring opportunities as they have demonstrated all year. With this being the case, look for the defenses to take center stage in this matchup in what will be a low scoring and highly competitive contest to the end.
