Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Oregon State Beavers vs Colorado Buffaloes

The 25th ranked Colorado Buffaloes will play host to the Oregon State Beavers on Saturday afternoon at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado, for a Big 12 showdown at 3 pm EST.  The Buffs are coming off their second straight loss with the latest coming on the road versus the Washington Huskies by a 27-13 score as their offense was shut out in the second half after going down 14-13 after two periods.  In all, their defense 204 rushing yards to the Huskies which were without their star running back Myles Gaskins for the game.  The Beavers season continues to get worse as they suffered a 49-7 home loss at the hands of the Cal Bears last Saturday as their offense only had 241 yards for the game while giving up 539 yards to a Bears offense that has struggled mightily this season.  The last time these teams met was on October 14, 2017 as the Buffaloes came away with a slim 36-33 road win while the Beavers covered the spread as 9.5 home underdogs.

Oregon State Beavers's Latest Performance :

Oregon State moved to 1-6 on the season while losing their fifth straight game in suffering a 47-9 home loss versus the lowly California Bears last Saturday.  The 49 points that they allowed to the Bears marked the fifth straight outing to where they allowed 35 or more points to their opponents.  Of course, this could be something that benefits the Buffaloes due to their lackluster performances lately on the offensive end.  Nonetheless, Oregon State only could muster a touchdown run by Jack Colleto as the QB also threw for 104 yards along with a pick in the contest as the Beavers collected only 241 yards total for the game while going four for 17 on third down conversions.  Their defense was terrible as usual in giving up 539 total yards to a struggling Bears team while giving up 305 yards as well.  The passing attack for the Bears averaged nine yards per catch while Cal converted six for 11 third down conversions in their first Pac 12 win of the season.

Colorado Buffaloes 's Latest Performance :

Colorado road loss to the Washington Huskies last weekend knocked them from the top spot within the Pac 12 South to third place within the division.  The good thing is that they have a meeting at home versus the Utes later in the season which could possibly propel them back into the top slot, depending on if they are able to hold their own for the remainder of the season along with a USC loss or two.  They now return home to where they are undefeated on the season while covering the spread two of three times this year.  Their defense is only allowing 21.4 points per game to their opponents this year, however, in their last two outings, the unit gave up 28 points to their opponents while the offense only put up 16 points per game during this time.  They were blanked in the second half versus the Huskies after scoring 13 points in the first half thanks to a touchdown pass from Steven Montez to Daniel Arias to put the Buffs up 7-0 early in the first quarter along with two field goals from Evan Price.  For the game, Colorado collected only 263 yards for the game as Montez threw for 144 yards, a TD, along with an interception while the rushing attack put up 119 yards with Traveon McMillian leading the attack with 86 yards on 22 carries.  The defense allowed the Huskies only 150 yards to Jake Browning yet he threw a huge touchdown pass to Aaron Fuller (5 catches, 63 yards, TD) to put the Huskies up 24-13.  In all, Colorado could not capitalize on two turnovers by Washington as they converted only three of 13 third down conversions in the loss.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Colorado should indeed get back into the win column versus a struggling Oregon State team this weekend; However, the Bears fought hard versus the Buffaloes last year in a slim 36-33 loss.  Nonetheless, look for the Bears to test a rush defense for the Buffs that may have lost some confidence in defending the rush recently as they had much success rushing in their last time out.  With that being the case, Colorado will get back to basics in utilizing Montez and their passing attack against a Beavers pass defense that is truly horrible in ranking 109th in the country in giving up 266 yards per outing.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Colorado Buffaloes -23.5

My reason for the pick :

With the Buffaloes being the better team, all around, as stated, I will back them to win this matchup as well as cover the spread as they have played much better in Boulder in 2018 by beating their opponents by an average of 25 points.  Besides, the Beavers truly stink on defense as they rank 100 or worse in every major category.  With that being the case, look for the Buffs to really get it going early and often on the Beavers on Saturday en route to a blowout win, thus halting a two-game losing streak.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 63.5

My reason for the prediction :

Regardless of their current rough patch, Colorado still allows only 21.4 points per game to their opponents this year.  Also, the under has been the play in four straight games leading up to this matchup while also being the result in two of three home games this year.  With that being said, Oregon State may score some points early on Colorado, however, the home team will take control of this matchup and neutralize the Beavers’ unit to ensure that the under remains the play.  Again, Colorado will score just enough to cover the spread while the total will certainly not exceed 63.5 points.

Betting trends for Oregon State Beavers:

    • Over is 6-0 in Beavers last 6 road games.
    • Beavers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
    • Beavers are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 conference games.

Betting trends for Colorado Buffaloes :

    • Under is 5-0 in Buffaloes last 5 conference games.
    • Under is 4-0 in Buffaloes last 4 games overall.
    • Under is 10-1 in Buffaloes last 11 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game.
