Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Purdue Boilermakers vs Michigan State Spartans

The Purdue Boilermakers will travel to Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan, to battle the Michigan State Spartans in a Big Ten Battle on Saturday at 12 pm EST.  The Boilermakers are coming off a confidence building 49-20 home win over the Ohio State Buckeyes last Saturday as they scored 28 points in the fourth quarter, which blew the game open, and was started by two DJ Knox rushing TD’s as the Boilermakers cruised to the victory.  The Spartans were 21-7 home losers to the tough Michigan Wolverines last weekend as they could only muster a touchdown while posting only 94 yards of total offense in the loss, their second in three games.  The last meeting amongst these teams was on October 3, 2015 as the Spartans picked up the 24-21 home win as the Boilermakers cashed in as 23-point underdogs.  The Boilermakers are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in East Lansing while the underdogs are 4-0-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall.

Purdue Boilermakers's Latest Performance :

Purdue has won four straight games to where they went 4-0 ATS during this time.  They have scored at least 40 points in each of these games, aside from a 30-13 home win over Boston College on September 22nd.  Their last win including a 49-20 home win over the Buckeyes as they racked up 539 yards of total offense including 378 yards passing as David Blough had three touchdowns for the game with Rondale Moore having 170 yards receiving with two TD catches.  The rushing attack collected 161 yards with Knox leading the way with 128 yards along with three rushing touchdowns in the victory.  The defense allowed only 76 yards rushing for Ohio State, yet Dwanyne Haskins put up 470 yards along with two touchdowns and an interception in the loss.

During their winning streak, the defense for Purdue has allowed 17 points during this time as the average margin of victory for the Boilermakers was 25 points.  They are also 2-0 ATS on the road this year while averaging 44 points during wins versus Nebraska and Illinois.  Nonetheless, the Spartans will be looking to atone for their recent loss on Saturday, however, with Purdue ranking 41st in the nation in points allowed with 22.7 points, things will certainly not be easy.  Of course, Purdue will also find it much more difficult to score in this game as the Spartan defense is allowing just 22 points per game to their opponents.

Michigan State Spartans 's Latest Performance :

Michigan State has hit a rough patch lately as they lost to their rival Michigan last week in a game that seemingly had many extra-curricular activities going on amongst the squads both before and during the game.  Nonetheless, the Spartans tied the game at 7 early in the third quarter before Shea Patterson and Ben mason were responsible for two touchdowns that sealed the victory for the road team.  The Spartans were only allowed 94 yards total from a stout Michigan defense in this contest as Brian Lewerke (66 yards passing) and LJ Scott (10 rushes for 25 yards) were non-factors in the game.  Patterson ended with three touchdown passes for Michigan while Karan Higdon had a team high 144 yards in the win for the Wolverines.  MSU stands at 2-2 in the conference after the loss and in fifth place within the East division of the Big Ten.  This weekend, they will be matched up with a Purdue team brimming with confidence after beating an Ohio State team last weekend that has run roughshod over them in recent outings.

How Purdue Boilermakers & Michigan State Spartans Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Purdue is 5-2 ATS while the OU is 4-3

Michigan State is 2-5 ATS while the OU is 4-3

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Despite the Boilermakers being on a run, they continue to rank 4th in the Big Ten East division at 3-1.  With that being said, they will certainly look to take care of an offensively inconsistent Michigan State team that can be a Jekyll and Hyde at times.  On the other hand, the Spartans have success in winning versus Purdue in the past and will certainly rely on their ability to stop the run while trying their luck with Blough beating the pass rush for MSU to find his playmakers.  In all, look for both teams to pull out all the stops in getting a win in this contest as the Big Ten is really heating up.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Purdue Boilermakers +2.5

My reason for the pick :

I would like to go with the Spartans in this matchup, however, I simply do not trust Lewreke and the Spartans offense to get things done.  Of course, Purdue has been shaky in the back end of their defense, which will benefit the Spartans immensely in this game.  Nonetheless, MSU has also been inconsistent within their defensive secondary as well.  In all, with Purdue being the more confident and consistent offense of the two, look for the visitors to cover in this matchup.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 51

My reason for the prediction :

I will ride with the under in this contest as it should really be a low-scoring and tight affair with both teams looking to either continue their stellar success, or, get back on track and back into the thick of things within their respective division.  Nonetheless, there will indeed be points scored in this game, however, since both teams are stingy in defending the run, do not expect the passing game to fully benefit from both defensive secondaries being awful.  In other words, the score will remain low in this matchup, certainly not surpassing the total of 51 points set.

    • Boilermakers are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
