Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Texas Longhorns vs Oklahoma State Cowboys

The 7th ranked Texas Longhorns will travel to T Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma, for a Big 12 matchup versus the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday night at 8 pm EST.  The Longhorns are coming off a 23-17 win at home over the Baylor Bears as they got three field goals from Cameron Dicker along with a rushing touchdown from Lil’Jordan Humphrey in addition to a Shane Buchele passing touchdown as this was enough for the win as Baylor racked up 142 penalty yards for the game en route to the loss.  The Cowboys suffered their second straight loss and third in four games as they were destroyed on the road by the Kansas State Wildcats by a 31-12 score last Saturday.   These teams last met on October 21, 2017 as the Cowboys got the 13-10 road win as the Longhorns covered as seven points underdogs at home.  The favorite is 8-1 ATS in the last nine meetings while the over is 6-1 inn the last seven meetings in Oklahoma State.  Finally, the road team is 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings, overall.

Texas Longhorns's Latest Performance :

The Longhorns picked up even more momentum in beating the Baylor Bears last Saturday as they allowed the Bears only 88 yards on the ground while Charlie Brewer passed for only 240 yards along with a TD and an interception.  Shane Buechele threw for 184 yards and a touchdown in the win while the rushing attack racked up 170 yards on the ground with Keontay Ingram having 110 yards on 19 carries.  QB Sam Ehlinger is still questionable with a shoulder injury, however, the offense has continued to click just enough to pick up wins throughout his absence as the Horns have won their last four games by an average of seven points.  The rough section of their schedule begins after this matchup as they will face west Virginia and Iowa state at home while getting Texas Tech in Lubbock on November 10th.  With that being said, look for Texas to bring their A game as they are fully aware that Oklahoma State will be looking for an encouraging performance before they hit the road for their last three games of the season while the only home game will be at home versus West Virginia on November 17th.

Oklahoma State Cowboys's Latest Performance :

After winning their first three games of the season, the Cowboys are in a pickle in losing three of their last four games and two straight, overall.  Their last loss came at the hands of the Kansas State Wildcats on the road as they were shut out in the second half while allowing 28 points to the Wildcats to allow them to seal the victory.  Their 15th ranked offense, which averages 39 points per outing, was stifled and could only muster four field goals for the game.  On the other hand, Taylor Cornelius passed for only 184 yards along with two interceptions in the loss while Cornelius also led the rushing attack with 55 yards along with a TD.  Finally, OSU’s offense, that averages 493 total yards per game, was held to only 311 yards versus a Wildcat defense that allowed them to possess the ball for only 22 minutes.  Their 48th ranked rush defensive allowed 291 yards for a 5.3 yards per carry average.  In all, the Cowboys would love to write this game off as being a bad day at the office; However, they have really slowed down on offense lately in averaging only 29 points per game.  Things will certainly not get easier versus a Texas team that is ranked 31st in the country in allowing 23 points per game.

How Texas Longhorns & Oklahoma State Cowboys Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Oklahoma State is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 4-3

Texas is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 3-4

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be a very interesting matchup in that you have the Longhorns, who are winners of six straight, taking to the road where they are 2-1 on the season and 1-2 ATS to face a reeling Cowboys squad that has seemingly lost their mojo on both sides of the ball, particularly on offense.  With that being the case, the Longhorns possess a potent passing attack that averages 252 yards per game while the Cowboys pass defense is allowing 252 yards per game.  On the other hand, Texas’ defense will have their hands full as well in that, despite their struggles currently, the Cowboys remain in the top 40 in passing/rushing.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Oklahoma State Cowboys +3.5

My reason for the pick :

While the Longhorns have been very resilient lately in finding ways to win games, they have not been very good versus the spread this year as the trends indicate.  With that being the case, I will back the Cowboys in this matchup as I happen to believe that they will come out of their funk sooner or later and I have a feeling that this will be the proverbial trap game for Texas.  OSU has indeed played horribly in recent outings; however, they continue to have the pieces in place to be a dangerous team, particularly on the offensive end.  It is for this reason that I will take the Boys and the points as this will certainly be a close game, judging from past contests for Texas.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 59.5

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the trends for this matchup and go with the under in this contest.  The under has been the play in two of the last three home games for the Cowboys while also being the play in three of the last four games for Texas overall.  As stated, this will be a close game throughout as each team understands how important this game is as it relates to Big 12 rankings.  It is for this reason that the defenses will take front and center in this matchup as they will take control of the trenches throughout.

Betting trends for Texas Longhorns:

    • Under is 7-1 in Longhorns last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
    • Longhorns are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games in October.
    • Under is 4-1 in Longhorns last 5 games in October.

Betting trends for Oklahoma State Cowboys:

    • Oklahoma State Over is 7-1 in Cowboys last 8 games following an ATS loss.
    • Cowboys are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a bye week.
    • Over is 4-1 in Cowboys last 5 games following a bye week.
