Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Washington State Cougars vs Stanford Cardinal

The 15th ranked Washington State Cougars will travel to Cardinal Stadium in Palo Alto, California, to battle the 23rd ranked Stanford Cardinal for a Pac 12 showdown on Saturday night at 7 pm EST.  The last time these two teams met, the Cougars came away with a 24-21 home victory as they covered as 1.5 home underdogs as they have covered in the past two games versus Standard.  The under has been the play in eleven of the last 16 games, overall.  In their last outing, the Cougars got the 34-20 home win over the Oregon Ducks as Garner Minshew threw for 323 yards along with four touchdowns in their third straight win.  On the other hand, the Cardinal picked up the 20-13 road win over the Arizona State Sun Devils last Saturday as they capitalized on three turnovers in the game by the Sun Devils en route to the victory.

Washington State Cougars's Latest Performance :

The Cougars continue to ride high after their loss to the USC Trojans on September 21st.  They have since outscored their latest three opponents by a score of 118-81 while being hot on the heels of the Washington Huskies in the Pac 12 North division.  They are also 3-0 ATS as they covered as three-point road favorites versus the Oregon Ducks last Saturday while also being able to put up 24 points in the second half while holding the Ducks to only seven to seal the victory.  Minshew threw two interceptions in the contest, however, his four touchdown passes were essential as his main target Dezmon Patmon ended with 81 yards and a touchdown catch for the game.  The rushing attack was led by James Williams rushed for 53 yards and a score for the Cougars as the offense went nine for 14 on third downs for the day.  Their defense allowed only 65 yards to the Ducks rushing attack while also giving up 270 yards and a TD to Justin Herbert of Oregon as the Ducks struggled in going only five for 16 in converting third downs.

Stanford Cardinal's Latest Performance :

The Stanford Cardinal halted a two-game losing streak on the road versus the Sun Devils of Arizona State last weekend as they got a touchdown pass from Kevin Costello who threw for 231 yards for the game along with JJ Arcega Whiteside leading the receiving corps with 91 yards and a touchdown catch for the game.  The rushing attack for Stanford picked up 127 yards for the game as Cameron Scarlett led the rushing attack with 54 yards and a TD in the win while the defense collected three turnovers for the day while allowing only 84 yards on the ground to the Sun Devils.  They now return home where they are 3-1 on the year; However, in their last outing at Cardinal Stadium, they suffered a 40-21 loss at the hands of the Utah Utes on October 6th.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Cougars will certainly need to bring their A game in this contest as Stanford will be looking to unseat the Cougars as the second ranked team in the Pac 12 North this weekend.  The Cardinal has played Washington State close in their recent matchup, however, the road team will go in with much confidence after reeling off a couple wins after their huge setback versus USC a month ago.  Stanford will certainly get a huge test in their pass defense, which has been awful this year, in allowing 252 yards per game.  Nonetheless, Stanford is most potent on the offensive end in their passing game which puts up 263 yards per outing, however, the Cougars have been stellar in the back end of their unit in giving up only 178 yards per game this season.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Washington State Cougars +3

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Cougars in this matchup as they have certainly played well recently.  Furthermore, they are winners of two of three games on the road this year while going 3-0 ATS during this time.  Stanford is 0-2 versus the Pac 12 at home in their last two games while going 2-3 ATS in their last five games, altogether.  With that being the case, this will certainly be a game that the Cougars passing attack will exploit a shaky defensive secondary for Stanford while remaining efficient on third downs as Stanford allows over 400 yards per outing in total yards per game.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 55.5

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the under in this game in that it was not only the play in their last meeting, but, has been the result in four of Stanford’s last seven matchups.  Also, the defense for the home team has really shined this year allowing only 20.7 points per game to their opponents.  Expect a tight matchup throughout this game as there is much on the line, most importantly Pac 12 North seedings.  With that being the case, Stanford will attempt to maintain possession in which to keep the dangerous offense of the Cougars off the field.  In all, look for the defense for the Cardinal to step up in this game to prevent the Cougars from going off in their passing attack, thus preventing the total from going over its set mark.

    • Over is 4-0 in Cougars last 4 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.

Betting trends for Stanford Cardinal:

    • Over is 4-0 in Cardinal last 4 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.
    • Under is 5-1 in Cardinal last 6 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.
    • Under is 5-1 in Cardinal last 6 home games.
