Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Wisconsin Badgers vs Northwestern Wildcats
The 19th ranked Wisconsin Badges will travel to meet the Northwestern Wildcats for a Big Ten battle at Ryan Field in Evanston, Indiana, at 12 pm EST. The Badgers are coming off a 49-20 beatdown over the Illinois Fighting Illini as they have won three of four on the strength of their rushing attack which collected 357 yards on the ground versus an awful Illini defensive front. The Wildcats barely escaped Rutgers on the road in their last outing by an 18-15 score as Isiah Bower rushed for 108 yards and two scores including the game winner that got the win for the road team as they won their third straight contest. The last time these teams met was on September 30, 2017 as the Badgers got the 33-24 home win yet the Wildcats covered as 16.5-point underdogs. Nonetheless, the Badgers are 1-4 ATS in their last five meetings in Evanston while the home team is 8-3 overall in the last eleven meetings. The under is also 4-1 in the last five matchups amongst these teams.
Wisconsin Badgers's Latest Performance :
The Badgers have won three of their last four games as they have averaged 32 points per game during this time while allowing opponents 22 points per. Their wins have not been very pretty, however, their rushing game has been as dominant as every as they ranked 4th while putting up 281 yards per game this season. In heir last outing versus the Fighting Illini, they racked up 357 yards total in the win as Jonathan Taylor (159 yards, 27 carries) along with Taiwan Deal (111 yards, 2 TD’s) paced the rushing attack while Alex Hornibrook threw for 188 yards, three TD’s, along with two picks in the win. Wisconsin has also had success versus the Wildcats in the past which will make this an interesting game as division ranking will certainly be at play.
Northwestern Wildcats's Latest Performance :
Northwestern continued to hold down the top spot with in the Big Ten West division as they picked up a slim 18-15 road win over the Rutgers Scarlett Knights last Saturday. Nonetheless, they certainly needed four quarters in which to come up with a win as Isiah Bowser rushed for a TD in the final period while a field goal from Drew Luckenbaugh was also needed to get the win for the Wildcats, their third straight. Bowser ended with 108 yards along with two touchdowns in the game while Clayton Thorson would throw for only 150 yards in the game. The defense was also essential in keeping Northwestern in the game as they only allowed 188 yards total to the Scarlett Knights. While Northwestern has not been overly impressive on the offensive end during their current winning streak, they have found ways to win games recently while attempting to remain optimistic that their offense can somehow come back to life versus a tough Wisconsin team that is currently sitting at number three within the division behind second ranked Iowa.
How Wisconsin Badgers & Northwestern Wildcats Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Wisconsin is 2-5 ATS while the OU is 5-2
Northwestern is 3-3-1 while the OU is 4-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Much is riding on this matchup for both teams as the Wildcats look to sew up the top spot within the East division of the Big Ten while the Badgers look to increase their ranking within the Big Ten with a solid win on Saturday. As stated, the Badgers possess a solid rushing attack with Taylor while Hornibrook has been solid this year as well. And while the Wildcats have been difficult to define, they will certainly be looking forward to this matchup as they understand that they have practically no room for error for the remainder of the season.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Wisconsin Badgers -6.5
My reason for the pick :
A team can do much with an outstanding rushing game, and with the Badgers dominating on the ground in 2018, they will not only make some noise within the big Ten for the remainder of the season, but, will also pull out a victory in this contest while covering the spread as well. Thorson has been very inconsistent despite the Wildcats passing game being ranked high in the country. Also, their rushing attack has also been dismal this year in putting up only 78 yards per game. With that being the case, look for the 35th ranked defense in points allowed with 23 per outing to step up and get a huge division win over a Wildcats team that can indeed be Jekyll and Hyde.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 51.5
My reason for the prediction :
Both teams have won recently due to consistent, tough, and focused defensive efforts. It is for this reason that I will back the under to be the play in this matchup as with all that is on the line for both squads, expect this game to be one to where the Badgers will certainly eat some clock with their punishing run game throughout while Northwestern will attempt to test a solid pass secondary for Wisconsin that ranked 29th in the nation in allowing 187 yards per game. Again, look for the under to be the strong play in this game.
