Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Ohio Bobcats vs Western Michigan Broncos

The second-place squad within the MAC East will square off versus their counterpart within the West on Thursday night as the Ohio Bobcats will visit Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to face the 2nd seeded Western Michigan Broncos for an all-important division showdown beginning at 7 pm EST.  The Broncos halted their six-game winning streak in their last time out with a home loss to the Toledo Rockets as they were outscored 28-7 in the second half en route to the blowout loss.  On the other hand, the Bobcats were on the giving end of a blowout as they manhandled the Cardinals of Ball State in collecting over 400 yards on the ground in an easy victory, their second straight and fourth in five outings.  The last time these two teams met was on December 2, 2016 as the Broncos picked up the 29-23 road win, yet the Bobcats covered as 16.5-point home favorites in the contest.  The home team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings amongst these teams while the over has been the play in four of the last five games amongst the Bobcats and the Broncos, overall.  Finally, the Bobcats are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings versus the Broncos.

Ohio Bobcats's Latest Performance :

Ohio continues to keep pressure on the Buffalo Bulls for the top spot within the MAC East as they demolished the Ball State Cardinals in their last matchup in cruising to a blowout victory.  Behind A.J. Ouelette (13 rushes, 135 yards, 2 TD’s) along with Maleek Irons (16 rushes, 102 yards, 2 TD’s) the Bobcats were able to rack up over 400 yards rushing for the day while averaging 7.2 yards per carry on a Ball State defense that has had difficulty defending the run all season.  Nathan Rourke also put up 70 yards on the ground along with two scores while throwing for 125 yards and a TD in the win, while the defense collected three turnovers on the day en route to the much-needed victory.  Ohio seeks to continue its winning ways on Thursday as they will face the top seeded Bulls in a few weeks after a matchup with the Broncos along with a potential trap game versus the RedHawks of Miami.  Nonetheless, they seek to keep their rushing game going versus Western Michigan as they have not been able to stop their opponents in this area in 2018.

Western Michigan Broncos's Latest Performance :

Western Michigan took a huge step back in their last outing versus the Rockets of Toledo as they were destroyed at home in every way against a dangerous offense that racked up 515 yards of total offense while also collecting 268 yards on the ground versus a Broncos defense that came into the game allowing 177 yards on the ground.  The Broncos also allowed five touchdown passes to Toledo along with a 7.7 yards per catch average.  And while Western Michigan has struggled in 2018 in defending both the pass and the run, they were severely exploited in this matchup on both sides as their offense was only able to average 3.7 yard per rush while Kaleb Eleby passed for 293 yards along with two TD’s in defeat.

After scoring at least 30 or more points in their prior six games, the Broncos were humbled in every way in this contest and now look forward to facing an offense in the Bobcats that has averaging 50 points in their last two wins while putting up 38 points per game this season.  On the other hand, the Bobcats are allowing 438 yards total to their opponents this year while their pass defense has been awful in permitting teams to put up almost 300 yards in the air.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be an interesting matchup as you have teams that are vying for the top spot within their respective divisions within the MAC conference as a loss could very well destroy their chances, altogether.  Both teams have played well lately and, despite their most recent loss to Toledo, the Broncos continue to be in a great spot with a season ending matchup with Northern Illinois that could possibly decide the winner of the West division.  The Bobcats also have a date with top seeded Buffalo in a few weeks that will also decide the top seed within the East, however, only one of these teams will be in a golden position as someone has to lose on Thursday.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Ohio Bobcats +2

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Bobcats on the road in this matchup as they have had experience and success in covering versus the Broncos in the past.  Also, I am simply not sure as to the psyche of Western Michigan after a deflating blowout loss to the Toledo Rockets in their last time out.  In all, expect Ohio to keep rolling in this matchup as they seek to keep pressure on Buffalo while also continuing their stellar play recently on offense in averaging 50 points per game in their last two outings alone.  Finally, with a punishing rushing game, expect for the Bobcats to have the edge over a Broncos squad that has allowed entirely too many yards on the ground recently.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

While the Bobcats certainly have an advantage on the ground as the Broncos are ranked 83rd in stopping the run, expect the total to remain low in what will certainly be a competitive contest amongst two teams that are attempting to keep their possibility of obtaining first place within their division alive.  Again, neither defense has played well this season, however, these teams are very familiar with each other and with the under being he play in their last matchup, expect for this to be a low scoring and competitive contest to the end.

Betting trends for Ohio Bobcats:

  • Bobcats are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 Thursday games.

  • Over is 4-0-1 in Bobcats last 5 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.

  • Over is 4-0-1 in Bobcats last 5 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.

Betting trends for Western Michigan Broncos:

  • Under is 5-0 in Broncos last 5 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
