Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Syracuse Orange vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons

The 24th ranked Syracuse Orange will travel to BB&T Field in Winston Salem, North Carolina, to face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday afternoon at 12 pm EST for an all-important ACC battle.  The last time these teams met was on November 11, 2017 as the Demon Deacons stunned the Orange on the road in a 64-43 blowout as they covered as 2.5 road favorites.  The favorites are 6-0 ATS in the last six games amongst these squads while the Orange is 5-2 ATS in the last seven games, overall.

The Orange, nonetheless, picked up a huge 51-41 home win over the reeling NC State Wolfpack as Eric Dungy likely regained his starting position at QB as he threw for 411 yards along with three touchdowns in the win.  The Demon Deacons picked up the 56-35 road win over the Louisville Cardinals while halting a two-game losing streak as Matt Colburn II along with Sam Hartman combining for a total of five TD’s in the win.

Syracuse Orange's Latest Performance :

The Orange won a duel with the high scoring NC State Wolfpack last weekend as they racked up 561 yards compared to 541 yards for the Wolfpack in a ten-point home win.  Also, the QB’s had a field day with the opposing pass defenses as Ryan Finley passed for 473 yards, three TD’s along with a pick while Dungy also threw for over 400 with three touchdown passes to three difference receivers.  The receivers, as one could imagine, also had great games for both squads as Kelvin Harmon finished with 247 yards along with two TD’s while Sean Riley had 164 yards on ten catches for the Orange.  Donta Strickland iced the game for the Orange with a five-yard run late in the fourth quarter to give the Orange their second straight win.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons's Latest Performance :

The Demon Deacons have four wins on the year.  Their last win over the Cardinals marked the third time in four wins that they scored 50 or more points as their offense looked unstoppable versus a dismal Louisville defense that allowed 368 yards on the ground to a Wake Forest team that ranks 113th in the nation as Colburn II led the way with 243 yards along with three TD’s in the win.  Hartman also had a great game as he threw for 243 yards and two TD’s while Greg Dortch led the receiving corps with 135 yards receiving on eight carries.

Wake Forest has been inconsistent on the defensive end all year, so it would not be surprising to see that they allowed a total of 532 yard for the game while allowing 4.8 yards rushing to the lowly Cardinals.  On the other hand, Jared Pass threw for 358 yards along with a TD in the loss for the Cardinals.  Hartman and Colburn II could indeed have similar days versus the Orange as they are ranked 106th and 73rd in defending the pass and rush in 2018.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

While Wake is simply playing for pride along with a potential bowl matchup in the future.  The Orange, on the other hand, continues to play for positioning within the ACC Atlantic division as they not only have a remaining schedule that entails a home game versus Louisville, but, road games versus Wake, Notre Dame, along with second seeded Boston College to end the season.  This is by no stretch an easy conclusion to their 2018 campaign, however, they may indeed finish with the second seed if they are able to win out.  With that being said, the Orange will look to continue to pick up wins at this point in the season, however, they must bear in mind that Wake’s offense picked up much confidence in their win over the Cardinals in their last outing.  Also, with their defense being torched last week by NC State, look for Hartman and company to have upset on their minds.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Wake Forest Demon Deacons +4.5

My reason for the pick :

While I believe that the Orange will indeed put some points on the board in this outing, also look for Wake to turn some heads in the passing and rushing attack as well as the Orange defense has been shaky all season long.  Also, with Wake gaining some confidence over lowly Louisville in their last outing, look for this matchup to be closer than expected.  It is for this reason that I will ride with the Demon Deacons to show and prove due to Hartman and Colburn II’s performance in their last outing.  With a repeat performance at home versus an inconsistent defensive unit for the Orange, they will certainly cover easily while keeping the game tight throughout.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 75

My reason for the prediction :

The over has been the play in the last three games for the Orange while also being the play six of Wake’s eight game this year (5-0 at home).  With that being the case, along with each defenses tendency to give up points like candy, ride with the over in this contest as the scoreboard will indeed light up early and often.
