Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Boston College Eagles vs Virginia Tech Hokies

The 25th ranked Boston College Eagles will travel to Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia, for an all-important matchup with the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday afternoon at 3:45 pm EST.  The Eagles are coming off yet another conference win this time over the Miami Hurricanes at home by a 27-14 score as they racked up 229 yards on the ground while its pass defense locked down the passing game for the Canes in allowing just 3.8 yards per catch in the contest.  The Hokies were snake bit at home versus a Georgia Tech team that put up 465 yards on the ground with TaQuan Marshall having the game of his life in rushing for 215 yards along with three TD’s in a much-needed win for the Jackets.

The Hokies picked up the 23-10 road win over the Eagles in their last outing, yet BC covered as 16-point home underdogs.  The over is 4-0-1 in the last five games versus Virginia Tech in Blacksburg while the Eagles are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings.  The underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last seven games amongst these two teams, overall.

Boston College Eagles's Latest Performance :

The Eagles have won three of their last four games and 3-1 ATS during this time largely due to AJ Dillon and their rushing attack.  Dillon has put up 100 or more yards in four of the Eagles last five games while QB Anthony White has stepped up his game as well in throwing only one interception in the last four outings for BC.  Their defense continues to play well in allowing just 24 points per game to their opponent while being ranked in the top 50 in total yards allowed with 371 yards per game.

Their dominance was shown in their last outing versus the Miami Hurricanes as they collected three turnovers for the day while allowing their offense only 305 total yards on the day as they picked up their second straight win.  AJ Dillon poured in 149 yards and score while Brown threw for 152 yards, a TD, along with a pick in the game.  Look for their 24th ranked rushing attack to attempt to punish the defensive front for the Hokies yet again as Virginia Tech is now allowing 178 yards per outing to their opponents.

Virginia Tech Hokies 's Latest Performance :

The Hokies could find no answers for the triple option for the Yellow Jackets in their last matchup as they allowed not only a total of 35 first downs but allowed the road team to hold the ball for a total of 47 minutes for the game.  In the end, the Yellow Jackets put up 465 yards on the ground with Marshall accounting for three rushing touchdowns while the team had seven total rushing TD’s on the day.  The Hokies, on the other hand, had two touchdown passes by Ryan Willis with Damon Hazelton leading the receiving corps with 81 yards and a score.  The rushing attack garnered 122 yards total on the Yellow Jacket defense as Steven Peoples finished with 51 yards on seven carries for a Hokies team that has lost two of their last three game, overall, while going 0-3 ATS during this time.

And while Virginia Tech is allowing a total of 28 points per game to their opponent for the year, they are allowing a tad over 40 points per game during their current skid.  On the other hand, they fell to the second place slot within the ACC Coastal behind UVA with the loss and will certainly need to play well in which to get back into the winning side of things, particularly with Pitt being on their heels and beginning to win games and standing 3-1 in the division.

How Boston College Eagles & Virginia Tech Hokies Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Boston College is 6-2 ATS while the OU is 5-3

Virginia Tech is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 4-3

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Much will be riding on this matchup because the Eagles are in second place within the Atlantic division of the ACC and will look to keep Syracuse at NC State at bay with a win.  On the other hand, the Hokies will look to keep the pressure on top seeded Virginia to win while keeping distance from Pitt in the Coastal division.  In all, both teams will certainly bring the intensity in this matchup simply because they must in which to maintain their position within their respective division, or, even increase their lot over time.  In all, look for this to be a hard hitting and low scoring affair to where the game will be won at the line of scrimmage as both teams possess decent rushing attacks.  The problem is that both defenses are average in stopping the run.  Virginia Tech has the better passing game with Willis and company, however, he has thrown three interceptions in the last three outings for the Hokies while having a completion percentage in the 50th percentiles in two of the last three games for Va Tech.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Boston College Eagles +2

My reason for the pick :

I will back the road team in this contest as they have remained the solid team throughout the year while going 2-1 ATS on the road in 2018.  The Hokies have failed to cover in their last two home games and, in fact, have lost each of those games outright to Notre Dame as well as to Georgia Tech.  in all, look for the Eagles to get their running game going early and often in this matchup while its 48th ranked pass defense will certainly look to pressure Willis as he has fallen a bit after a stellar first half of the season.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 57.5

My reason for the prediction :

While the Hokes have been shaky on the defensive end, look for them to perform much better in this outing versus the Eagles.  Of course, BC is on a high on both sides of the ball and will attempt to carry their momentum and confidence into an all-important matchup on Saturday versus a Hokies squad badly needing a win.  The under was the play in the last matchup amongst these teams and I expect this to be the case in this contest as both defenses, despite lapses here and there, continue to be stout in defending the rush and pass.  Furthermore, with division implications looming heavily, expect each to pull out the stops in ensuring a win this weekend.

Betting trends for Boston College Eagles:

  • Eagles are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games in November.

  • Eagles are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

  • Eagles are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games.

Betting trends for Virginia Tech Hokies :

  • Hokies are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.

  • Under is 4-0 in Hokies last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.

  • Over is 4-0 in Hokies last 4 games following a double-digit loss at home.
