Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
FSU Seminoles vs NC State Wolfpack
The Florida State Seminoles will travel to Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina, to battle the suddenly struggling NC State Wolfpack on Saturday afternoon on 3:30 pm EST. the Noles come into this game losing two of their last three outings with their last being a 59-10 home blowout thanks to the stellar play of the Clemson Tigers as Trevor Lawrence passed for four TD’s in the game en route to yet another ACC win. The Wolfpack suffered their second straight loss as they could find no answers for a Syracuse Orange team on the road that racked up 561 yards along with three TD’s by Eric Dungy as the Wolfpack has given up at least 40 points in their last two outings. The last time these teams met, NC State picked up the 27-21 road win as they cashed in as 10.5 road favorites as the Noles have not been successful ATS against this team in the past (0-7-1). They are also 1-14-1 ATS in the last 17 meetings, overall, versus NC State.
FSU Seminoles's Latest Performance :
François threw for only 180 yards and a pick in his last outing versus a Clemson team that was focused from the start in allowing just 247 yards in the game to FSU. The Noles rushing attack was nonexistent in garnering only 21 yards versus a stout Tiger defensive line that allowed -.6 yards per carry on the ground while collecting two turnovers in the win. Of course, FSU did not help themselves by racking up over 100 yards in penalties for the game while also allowing the Tigers to finish with 547 total yards with Trevor Lawrence to throwing for 314 yards along with four TD’s in the win.
Nonetheless, they will seek to write off their horrible showing as they take the field versus the reeling Wolfpack on Saturday. The Wolfpack, much like the Noles, possess a potent passing game with Ryan Finley and company ranking 6th in the country in putting up 335 passing years per game. This is certainly something FSU should be dreading as their pass defense is allowing close to 300 yards per game. Also, NC State is undefeated at home while the Seminoles have lost two of three games on the road this season.
NC State Wolfpack 's Latest Performance :
Despite Ryan Finley throwing for 473 yards, three TD’s along with an interception, the Wolfpack could not come up with a road win versus Syracuse last Saturday as their defense allowed Eric Dungy to put up 411 yards along with throwing for three TD’s. Kelvin Harmon was the star in the receiving corps for NC State as he ended with 247 yards on eleven catches for two scores; However, Sean Riley and Nykeim Johnson combined for 17 catches for 300 yards and a TD for the Orange. Reggie Gallaspy racked up 65 yards on 19 carries for the Wolfpack as the ground attack was dismal in averaging 2.3 yards per carry. Combine this with 95 yards in penalties for the Wolfpack, one can conclude that this was not a pretty game for them, particularly on defense.
They will look to get back on the right track versus an FSU team that put up only ten points in their last outing while averaging only 23 points per outing this season. They do, however, possess the 36th ranked passing attack in the nation behind Deondre François, as they look to sting the Wolfpack defense as they continue to give up big plays within the backend of their defense as they are ranked 125th in the country in defending the pass (290 yards per game).
How FSU Seminoles & NC State Wolfpack Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
FSU is 3-5 ATS while the OU is 5-3
NC State is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 3-4
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This game will be a litmus test for the Wolfpack as they are in desperate need of a win at this point in the season as they have fallen to fourth place in the ACC Atlantic division. And while their offense continues to put points on the board, their defense has suddenly hit a wall in allowing over 40 points per game during their current slide. Look for them to attempt to perform better versus an FSU team that continues to have trouble scoring points along with moving the ball consistently. Also, with their defense allowing tons of big plays for their opponents passing game, look for Finely and company to exploit this throughout the contest. Of course, FSU will also look to take advantage of an NC State pass secondary that has gotten beat up in the past few weeks as well.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: NC State Wolfpack -7
My reason for the pick :
While the Seminoles will put some points on the board versus a lackluster pass defense for NC State in this matchup, look for the home team to show and prove after being dominated by opposing offenses in the past two weeks. Look for them to begin, however, by getting their offense cranked up, yet again, versus a Noles team that has struggled in defending both the pass and the run this year. With that being said, the Wolfpack covering the spread is the strong play in this game as they seek to salvage their season after some disastrous outings lately.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 54
My reason for the prediction :
When one thinks that Finley and their top-notch passing attack will be going up against an FSU defense that has consistently allowed big plays to occur all season long, he/she will certainly back the over in this contest. Also combine this with the fact that, as stated, the Wolfpack certainly need a great performance in which to build confidence moving forward. With that being the case, the Seminoles will fold again as they will allow the home team to pass and run throughout the game as the score will certainly surpass its set mark.
