Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs UNC Tar Heels

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will travel to Keenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to face the UNC Tar Heels on Saturday at 12:15 pm EST for an ACC battle.  The Yellow Jackets are coming off a confidence building win on the road versus the Virginia Tech Hokies as they racked up 465 total yards on the ground while holding the ball for over 42 minutes in a 49-28 victory, their third in four outings.  On the other hand, UNC lost their fourth straight game as they fell short on the road versus the Virginia Cavaliers by a 31-21 score as they were pounded on the ground in allowing 202 yards for the game while allowing three passing TD’s by Bryce Perkins.  The Yellow Jackets took the 33-7 home win the last time these two teams met while covering the spread as 9.5 home favorites.  The Home team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings while the over is 4-0 in the last four meetings at Chapel Hill.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets's Latest Performance :

Georgia Tech is only 2-3 within the ACC Coastal at this point, however, has won two out of their last three games in winning each game by an average of 22 points.  Their only loss during this time was a 28-14 home loss to Duke on October 13th.  Nonetheless, their most recent win versus the then-top seeded Virginia Tech Hokies, the Jackets racked up 465 yards in the game with TaQuan Marshall having 215 yards rushing on 40 carries with three scores.  Jordan Mason also had three scores in the contest as he rushed for 82 yards on 12 carries.

Virginia Tech held the ball for only 17 minutes in the game while having 323 yards for the game as Ryan Willis had 201 yards passing along with two TD’s in the loss which knocked the Hokies from their top seed standing within the Coastal division.  Marshall is questionable for this game with an upper body injury, which could severely affect Georgia Tech’s top ranked rushing attack in the nation.  During their last four games, the Yellow Jackets are averaging 49 points per game while allowing just 27 points during this time.

UNC Tar Heels 's Latest Performance :

UNC cannot buy a win these days as they lost their fourth straight game after playing a decent half of football against UVA in their last outing.  However, they were outscored 14-7 in the second half en route to yet another loss to where they are allowed 30 or more points to their opponent.  They were outgained in this game 425-337 as Bryce Perkins threw for 217 yards and three TD’s for Virginia while Nathan Elliot passed for 271 yards along with two TD’s to two different receivers.  On the other hand, the Cavaliers roughed up the defensive front for UNC in racking up 208 yards for the game while the Tar Heels collected on 66 yards with Michael Carter having 42 yards on eight rushes along with a score.

As stated, while the offense for the Tar Heels has put up some number as it relates to total yards per game (408) they are only averaging 23 points per contesgt, thus signaling a problem with offensive efficiency.  Nonetheless, one does not have to look far to see that the defense has been just as much as the culprit for losing as the offense as they are allowing opportunities to score 34 points per game along with average 413 total yards per outing.  As stated, they have allowed 30 or more points in all but two games this season while giving up over 35 points in their last two outings alone.  With the Yellow Jackets coming off such a huge win, they should beware that they may be in for yet another long night as their rush defense is allowing close to 200 yards per game, good for only 100th in the nation.

How Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets & UNC Tar Heels Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Georgia Tech is 3-5 ATS while the OU is 5-3

UNC is 3-3-1 ATS while the OU is 5-2

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

With Miami and Virginia as remaining opponents, it just may be too late for the Jackets to make a run at the top two spots within the division, however, they will certainly be looking to go bowling soon and will need two wins in which to become eligible.  UNC’s season is over as they are only playing for pride at this point as they have only won one conference game (their only win of the season) at home versus the Pitt Panthers over a month ago.  In all, look for the Yellow Jackets to crank up their option attack on a team that has been terrible against the run; However, look for the Tar Heels also put some points on the board as they are facing a Georgia Tech team that has given up at least 28 points in their last three games, overall.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  UNC Tar Heels +5.5

My reason for the pick :

I will back the home team in this matchup as Georgia Tech, as apparent by their record overall and within the conference, has been too up and down this season.  Also, with QB Marshall being questionable for this contest, I will certainly back UNC with the points at home where they are 2-0 ATS thus far in the season, to make the game interesting while possibly coming out with the victory outright.  As stated, UNC can indeed rack up yards, however, suffer from not cashing those yards into points.  And with the Yellow Jackets allowing 28 points per game, expect the home team to have some opportunities to allow themselves along with their faithful fan base something to cheer about this weekend.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 61.5

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the over in this contest since the Tar Heels are terrible at defending the run while the Jackets have also been known for allowing big plays this season.  Also, the over has been the play in four of the last five games for UNC while being the result in four of the last five games for the Georgia Tech and I expect this to be the case in this matchup.  In all, I envision a high scoring, back and forth affair to where the Heels may indeed come out with an outright victory.

Betting trends for Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets:

  • Over is 5-0 in Yellow Jackets last 5 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.

  • Yellow Jackets are 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.

  • Over is 5-1 in Yellow Jackets last 6 road games.

Betting trends for UNC Tar Heels :

  • Tar Heels are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games.

  • Tar Heels are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.

  • Over is 5-1 in Tar Heels last 6 games following a straight up loss.
