Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Kansas State Wildcats vs TCU Horned Frogs
The Kansas State Wildcats will travel to Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas, to battle the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm EST for a Big 12 showdown. The Wildcats are coming off a 51-14 road loss in their last outing as they allowed Oklahoma to rack up over 300 rushing yards for the game while also allowing Kyler Murray to post over 300 yards passing along with three TD’s. The Horned Frogs lost a heartbreaker on the road to the Kansas Jayhawks as they attempted a rally after losing the lead late in the game, yet, came up short, thus losing their third straight game. TCU won the last matchup between these teams on October 14, 2017 by a 26-6 score as they covered as seven-point road favorites in the win.
Kansas State Wildcats's Latest Performance :
Kansas State allowed the Oklahoma Sooners to rack up 702 yards for the game while they could muster only 245 yards in their last outing. Furthermore, the Sooners picked up 322 yards on the ground with Kennedy Brooks (5 rec, 94 yds, two TD’s) and T.J. Pledger (13 rec, 91 yds) leading the way while Kyler Murray passed for 352 yards and three touchdown passes. Also, CeeDee Lamb led the receiving corps with 160 yards and two TD’s in the win.
For the struggling Wildcats, Skylar Thompson passed for only 108 yards for the game while also rushing for 54 yards and a score in the game. Justin Simon also put up 51 yards along with a TD for an offense that only converted four of 12 third down conversions in the game while holding the ball for 27 total minutes. The rushing attack remains their bread and butter in 2018 as they are ranked 53rd in the country in putting up 185 yards per game. On the other hand, the Horned Frogs are only giving up 148 yards per outing.
TCU Horned Frogs's Latest Performance :
TCU is 0-5 ATS in the last five games as they are struggling on both sides of the ball. Their defense, which is allowing 25 points per game, is allowing nearly 30 points per game during this time while their offense, with QB Shawn Robinson out for the season due to a shoulder injury, is only putting up 20 points per game. In his absence, Michael Collins threw for 351 yards along with a TD and an interception versus the Jayhawks while the rushing attack collected 153 yards total for the game with Darius Anderson having 95 yards on 20 carries. On the other hand, Jalen Reagan led the receiving corps with 177 yards and a TD catch for the Horned Frogs in the loss.
The defense only allowed 307 total yards for the game with Peyton Bender passing for 249 yards along with two TD’s while Pooka Williams was the recipient of those TD’s as he racked up 102 yards on seven catches in the victory. Two huge turnovers doomed the Horned Frogs in this contest as turnovers along with an ineffectiveness at converting yards into points have ruined the season for TCU.
How Kansas State Wildcats & TCU Horned Frogs Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Kansas State is 4-4 ATS while the OU is 3-5
TCU is 2-6 ATS while the OU is 4-4
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be a matchup of two struggling teams as TCU is reeling at his point in the season while the Wildcats are losers of four of five. With both offenses struggling at this point in the season along with two defenses that continue to play as well as possible despite not having any type of reliable offense in which to back them up, look for this to be a game where momentum will swing back and forth throughout. This game will be won in the trenches as the rushing attack will take center stage for both squads. The problem is that the defenses are stout in defending the run, thus making this a low scoring and competitive matchup.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Kansas State Wildcats +8
My reason for the pick :
While the Horned Frogs may indeed pull out a slim victory in this matchup, I will back the Wildcats with the points as they will find ways to keep this game tight throughout. And while the Horned Frogs may have the better team, overall, KSU has kept their games close recently along with putting up points, albeit in eventual blowout losses. With so much inconsistency on both sides of the ball, look for this to be a tight game to where not many points will be scored, thus allowing both teams to have a shot at getting the win.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 46.5
My reason for the prediction :
The under was the play in the last matchup amongst these teams while also being the play in three of the last five games for the Wildcats. Also, the under has been the result in three of the last five games for the Horned Frogs. With that being the case, along with both defenses being stout, look for the total to remain low as I certainly do not see many points being scored.
