Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Missouri Tigers vs Florida Gators
The Missouri Tigers will travel to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Georgia, to face the Florida Gators on Saturday afternoon at 4 pm EST in an SEC showdown. The Tigers are coming off a 15-14 home loss to the Kentucky Wildcats to where they allowed a 67-yard punt return along with a two-yard touchdown pass by Terry Wilson for Kentucky in losing their third game in four outings. The Gators also fell hard to division foe Georgia Bulldogs by a 36-17 score as the Bulldogs were allowed 4.6 yards per carry on the ground with Jake Fromm threw three TD’s in the much-needed win. Florida has covered the spread in two of the last three games amongst these teams, yet, the Tigers covered in last year meetings as they picked up the 45-16 home win as Missouri covered as 1.5-point home favorites on November 4, 2017.
Missouri Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Tigers offense are averaging 470 yards per game this season yet could only muster 249 yards for the game as Drew Lock ended with 165 yards on the day with Jonathan Johnson leading the receiving corps with 71 yards on four receptions. The rushing attack mustered 84 yards versus a stout Wildcat defensive front as Demarea Crockett along with Larry Roundtree III combined for 25 rushes for 91 yards along with two TD’s. Nonetheless, penalties along with special teams play prevented the Tigers from picking up a much-needed win in this contest. In fact, Missouri has had too many mental lapses on each side of the ball this season. And while they are ranked in the top 50 in every offensive category, they will certainly find it difficult to move the ball versus a Florida team that has been stellar on the defensive end all year. Of course, with the 50th ranked rushing attack in the nation, they will certainly test the Gators 74th ranked rush defense that is allowing 178 yards per game.
Florida Gators's Latest Performance :
Florida was outplayed in the first half by the Bulldogs yet went down by a 13-7 score; However, Georgia blew the game open in the second half as they outscored Florida 23-10 in the second half as the Gators halted a five-game winning streak. Felipe Franks had a horrible game as he threw for only 105 yards, TD, and an interception in the game as he was severely outplayed by Jake Fromm, who finished with 240 yards along with three TD’s. Both teams had decent games on the ground with LaMichael Perrine having 62 yards on 14 carries while DeAndre Swift along with Elijah Holyfield combining for 32 carries on 175 yards for the game. Florida also had three turnovers for the game while converting only four of 12 third down conversions.
And while the Gators are averaging 32 points per game this season, they are only putting up 23 points per game in their last four games, overall. On the other hand, their defense has given up an average of 22 points during this time. Missouri is averaging 36 points per game this season and will certainly look to test the defense of the Gators, particularly its rushing attack that ranks 74th in the nation.
How Missouri Tigers & Florida Gators Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Missouri is 4-4 ATS while the OU is 5-2
Florida is 6-2 ATS while the OU is 4-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be a game of teams with different styles. On one hand, the Gators rely on their defense to set the tone while the offense will score just enough to obtain the lead while allowing the D to preserve this lead over the course of the game. On the other hand, the Tigers offense is the tip of the spear for Missouri as they are designed to blitz teams on the offensive end throughout the game while the defense is opportunistic and will certainly not prevent teams from scoring. In all, look for this to be a low scoring affair to where each offense will having trouble scoring as the Florida offense will look to grind it out on the ground versus a Missouri defense that is solid defending the rush while the Missouri high scoring offense will find difficulties in moving the ball versus a Florida defense that seeks to have a much better performance than in their outing versus Georgia.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Florida Gators -6
My reason for the pick :
I will have to give the edge to the Gators in this matchup as I happen to believe that they will possess the motivation to retake the field after their loss to Georgia in which to get a win. Combine this with the fact that the defense has held their own all year long, look for them to cause problems for an inconsistent Lock and the offense for the Tigers. Perrine along with Florida’s 41st ranked rushing attack will test the resolve of Missouri’s run defense while Franks will certainly find success versus a Missouri pass defense that ranks 123rd in the nation in allowing 288 yards per game.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 58
My reason for the prediction :
While some points will be scored in this game, look for the under to be the play in this contest in that it has been the play in their last matchup while also being the play in two of the last three games for the Tigers, overall. While the Gators are allowing less than 20 points to their opponents all year, look for them to play lights out on the defensive end in this outing while confusing the Tiger offense throughout. On the other hand, the Gators will take advantage of scoring opportunities in this contest, thus regaining their confidence, yet, not enough to allow the score to surpass the set limit for this matchup.
