Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Ohio State Buckeyes
The Nebraska Cornhuskers will travel to Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, to battle the 8th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday at noon in Big Ten football action. The Cornhuskers, after a horrible start to the season, won their second straight game as they whipped up on the Bethune Cookman Wildcats in their last time out by a 45-9 score as they racked up 226 yards on the ground while collecting three turnovers for the game. On the other hand, the Ohio State Buckeyes are coming off a bye week, yet, lost to Purdue in their last outing by a 49-20 score on the road as David Blough passed for three TD’s while D.J. Knox rushed for three TD’s on 128 yards total to hand OSU its first loss of the season. The last time these teams met, the Buckeyes picked up the 56-14 road win as they also covered as 23.5 road favorites. In fact, the Buckeyes are 4-0 ATS in the last four games versus Nebraska while the over is 4-0 in the last four games, overall.
Nebraska Cornhuskers's Latest Performance :
The Cornhuskers are only 1-4 in the Big Ten West division. And while taking a break from the grind of the conference schedule was able to pick up an easy victory over the Wildcats of Bethune Cookman in their last time out as the offense racked up a total of 468 yards for the game with Devine Ozigbo putting up 110 yards along with a touchdown while Adrian Martinez complimented him well with 213 yards, two TD’s along with an interception in the win. Stanley Morgan Jr led the receiving corps with 82 yards along with two scores in their second straight victory.
They now return to Big Ten play and will be getting a well-rested OSU squad that will certainly be looking to get back on the field to atone for their last outing versus the Boilermakers. They must also bring their A game since their defense has not been the most stellar this season in allowing 33 points to their opponents along with 438 total yards per game.
Ohio State Buckeyes 's Latest Performance :
Though the Buckeyes outgained the Boilermakers in their last outing (546-539), they were outplayed in every way. And despite Dwayne Haskins having 419 yards passing, he had a pick six in the loss while the Buckeye rushing attack gained only 76 yards compared to giving up 161 to Purdue. Finally, the OSU offense was limited to 30 points or less for only the second time this season while giving up the most points of the year in the meantime. A week of rest and preparation could certainly do them well as they now look towards a Nebraska team that has had success recently in beating a Minnesota team that has only won a single conference game along with destroying a Bethune Cookman football team which hails from the MEAC conference.
OSU is healthy for the most part and continues to possess one of the most dangerous offenses in the nation in ranking in the top ten in total yards average per game (556), passing yards (384), along with total points (43). Dwayne Haskins has 2800 yards passing on the season with 30 TD’s alongside just five INT’s while the rushing attack is led by J.K. Dobbins with 521 yards along with five TD’s on the season. K.J. Hill leads the receiving corps with 656 yards along with four touchdowns for the Buckeyes. Their defense allows just 23 points on the season while allowing just under 400 yards total to their opponents per week. They will certainly need to bring their A game as Nebraska averages 471 yards per game in 2018.
How Nebraska Cornhuskers & Ohio State Buckeyes Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Nebraska is 2-5-1 ATS while the OU is 5-3
Ohio State is 3-5 ATS while the OU is 4-4
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Nebraska has picked up some much-needed wins in their last two outings, however, they will now face one of the big boys in Ohio State that was taken down on the road by a pretty good Purdue team in their last time out. In all, expect the Cornhuskers to do what they do best: Run the football while opening opportunities within the passing game. Ohio State has defended the rush well this season however, have been susceptible in giving up plays within the back end of the defense. In all, look for the Cornhuskers to get tough in the trenches to test an OSU squad desperately seeking a win in which to move on from their last outing.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: OSU Buckeyes -17.5
My reason for the pick :
Of course, the strong play will be with the Buckeyes in this matchup as they are off a bye weekend. Also, with the whipping they received in their last time out, they must be itching to retake the field in which to atone for their horrible road outing versus the Boilermakers. Expect them to open things up from the start while allowing Haskins to utilize his playmakers on the outside to obtain an early lead. Keep in mind that the Cornhuskers have not played well at all on the road this year in going 0-3 with their average loss being by 22 points. With that being the case, take the Buckeyes as they will roll at home.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 72.5
My reason for the prediction :
The Buckeyes will be looking to make a statement in this game. It is for this reason, along the over being the play in two of their last three outings in addition to being the result in five of the last six games for the Huskers, look for them to score early and often on a Nebraska team that has allowed 35 points or more in five of their eight games this season.
