Oklahoma Sooners vs Texas Tech Red Raiders
The 7th ranked Oklahoma Sooners will travel to Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas, to battle the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday night at 8 pm EST for a huge Big 12 showdown. The Sooners are on a high after winning two straight games by putting up 50 points in each of their last two outings with the last being a 51-14 home win over the Wildcats of Kansas State last weekend. The Red Raiders halted a two-game winning streak to where they lost on the road to Iowa State by a 40-31 score in allowing the Cyclones to rush for 172 yards along with committing three turnovers for the game. Oklahoma rolled over the Red Raiders in their last matchup by a 49-27 score as they also covered as 20.5-point home favorites. The home team is 5-0 ATS in the last five games while the over is 6-1 in the last seven games amongst these two teams. The Sooners are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Lubbock.
Oklahoma Sooners's Latest Performance :
Aside from a high scoring shootout with Texas which resulted in the first loss for the Sooners in 2018, the OU has since run roughshod over the competition in winning each of their games by an average of 30 points. This continued in their last matchup as they won their homecoming game versus the Kansas State Wildcats by a 51-14 score while racking up 702 yards for the game while allowing just 245 yards for the Wildcats. Furthermore, the Sooners picked up 322 yards on the ground with Kennedy Brooks (5 rec, 94 yds, two TD’s) and T.J. Pledger (13 rec, 91 yds) leading the way while Kyler Murray passed for 352 yards and three touchdown passes in the game. Also, CeeDee Lamb led the receiving corps with 160 yards and two TD’s in the win. In all, the Sooners will certainly need to bring their A game in what will most certainly be a raucous environment in Lubbock as they will go against an offensive team in Texas Tech that is 3-1 ATS in their last four home games.
Texas Tech Red Raiders's Latest Performance :
Texas Tech stands 3-2 within the Big 12 conference in 2018 as they dropped two games to West Virginia and Iowa State while allowing 40 points in each defeat. Of course, with Alan Bowman under center, the Red Raiders will put points on the board as the Red Raiders are averaging 42 points for the year. As one can surmise, their defense has not performed up to par in allowing 423 total yards per game along with being torched in the pass defense in giving up 284 pass yards per game. Brock Purdy and Iowa state exploited this vulnerability in the last outing versus Tech in that he passed for 250 yards along with two TD’s while racking up 422 yards total.
The Red Raiders were led by Bowman who passed for 323 yards and a TD yet threw three picks in the game including a pick six. Antoine Wesley led the receiving corps had 119 yards along with a score in the contest. The rushing attack was shut down by a stout defensive front for the Cyclones in putting up only 30 yards total.
How Oklahoma Sooners & Texas Tech Red Raiders Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Oklahoma is 4-4 ATS while the OU is 7-1
Texas Tech is 5-3 ATS while the OU is 6-2
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
As stated, this will be a shootout amongst two squads that are known to score with ease in 2018 with defenses that are average to awful. Oklahoma continues to chase the Texas Longhorns in the conference while also holding off the Mountaineers, who are also 4-1 in the Big 12. Iowa State and Texas Tech round out the top five teams within the Big 12 as they will be looking to obtain a huge win at home to increase their standing while dropping the Sooners to their second loss on the year. This will certainly not be easy as Murray and the offense for the Sooners have been playing dominant football on offense lately. In all, this will certainly be an interesting contest as both teams will bring the focus and intensity as much is riding on the results of this matchup.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Texas Tech Red Raiders +13
My reason for the pick :
While Oklahoma has been dominating on the offensive side of the ball lately, despite their recent slide, the Red Raiders continue to possess a potent offensive attack as well. In fact, they are also outstanding at home ATS while putting up an average of 48 points in their last four games in Lubbock. Expect them to show and prove in this matchup while covering the spread versus a Sooner team that has improved on defense as the season has progressed yet are known to give up big plays in their defensive secondary.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 77.5
My reason for the prediction :
While the under was the play in their last meeting amongst each other, the over was the play in all but one of OU’s games this year while being the result three of the last four outings for Texas Tech. In other words, the scoreboard will light up in this game early and often amongst two teams with average defenses that have the benefit of playing alongside stellar offenses that simply know how to score.
