Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Stanford Cardinal vs Washington Huskies
The Stanford Cardinal will travel to Husky Stadium in Seattle, Washington, to battle the 19th ranked Washington Huskies on Saturday night at 9 pm EST in a Pac 12 showdown. Both are coming off heartbreaking losses as the Cardinal suffered a 41-38 home loss as the Washington Cougars rallied in the second half to claim a three-point victory, thus handing Stanford their third loss in four games. The Huskies suffered a huge loss as well in dropping a road matchup versus the Cal Bears by a 12-10 score as Jake Browning and the offense racked up only 250 total yards for the game while Browning threw an interception in what was an ugly game all around as they lost their second game in three outings. The last time these teams met was on November 10, 2017 as the Cardinal picked up the 30-22 home win as they covered as seven-point underdogs. The home team is 4-0 ATS in their last four meetings while the under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Seattle.
Stanford Cardinal's Latest Performance :
Blake Mazza kicked a 42-yard field goal to complete a rally for Washington State while allowing the Cougars to pick up their fourth straight game while remaining in the top spot within the Pac 12 North. Stanford, on the other hand, fell to third place within the division as Kevin Costello also had an outstanding night for Stanford in throwing for 323 yards along with four TD’s in the loss, however, their pass defense could find no answers to Minshew and the passing game for the Cougars as Dez Patmon and Jamire Calvin combined for 13 catches for 229 yards in the victory. In all, Stanford has lost three of their last four games as they have struggled on both sides of the ball during this time.
Also, the Cardinal are 1-3 ATS during their current losing skid as they have allowed 30 points per game to their opponents. Nonetheless, Costello and the passing attack is ranked 31st in the nation in averaging 271 yards per game and will certainly test the 12th ranked pass defense for the Huskies that allow just 172 yards per game. As stated, their rushing game has stunk it up all year in averaging just 95 yards per game.
Washington Huskies 's Latest Performance :
Washington took a huge step back in their last outing as they fell to the lowly Cal Bears by a 12-10 score as they allowed the Bears only 91 yards for the game while giving up 153 yards in the air as Chase Garbers and company averaged 6.3 yards per catch. Jake Browning threw for 148 yards, a TD, and an interception while Kamari Pleasant had 62 yards on 12 carries for the Huskies, who had two total turnovers for the game. In all, the Huskies are struggling on both sides of the ball, particularly on offense, where they have put up an average of 21 points in their last three outings while losing two of their last three games. Also, they are 0-4 ATS in their last four games while being only 2-7 ATS for the year.
Browning has over 2000 yards on the year yet has 8 interceptions on the year while throwing a pick in each of his last four games. Myles Gaskins (623 yards, 5 TD’s) has missed the last two games and is questionable for this game with a shoulder injury. They may find success versus a deflated Stanford team along with their pass defense that is ranked 112th in allowing 275 yards per game.
How Stanford Cardinal & Washington Huskies Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Stanford is 4-4 ATS while the OU is 4-4
Washington is 2-7 ATS while the OU is 1-6
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be yet another interesting Pac 12 matchup this weekend as the Cardinal seeks to atone for their last outing while the Huskies will also be looking o get back into the win column after a devastating loss to the Cal Bears last weekend. With that being said, expect the focus and intensity to be there for both squads. Nonetheless, one must think about the psyche of both teams after a Cougars rally against Stanford along with the loss for the Huskies along with their playmaker, Gaskins, still out with injuries. In all, this should be an interesting matchup amongst two team longing for a win.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Stanford Cardinal +10
My reason for the pick :
I will back the road team int his contest as the Cardinal covered (and won) in last year’s matchup. Furthermore, the Huskies have not played consistent at all on either side of the ball this year. With that being said, take the Cardinal to keep this game close as Costello will be solid under center while the defense for Stanford will get after Browning throughout the game as he has proven that he does not, at this stage of his development, possess the patience in the pocket that one would need to be successful. In all, the Cardinal with the points will indeed be the strong play in this matchup.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 47
My reason for the prediction :
With rain in the forecast along with the under being the play in all but one of the games for Washington this year (4-0 at home), look for this game to be a game won strictly within the trenches as each team will certainly utilize their running game. Of course, Stanford has not done well in this area, however, Washington is struggling at this point which may allow them to have some success throughout the game. Browning and company continue to be inconsistent and cannot be relied upon to score consistently. Furthermore, the Cardinal defense is only allowing 23 points per game and will certainly look to have a much better outing to get over a potentially devastating loss.
Betting trends for Stanford Cardinal:
- Over is 5-0 in Cardinal last 5 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.
- Under is 5-1 in Cardinal last 6 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game.
- Cardinal are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss.
Betting trends for Washington Huskies :
- Huskies are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 conference games.
- Under is 4-0 in Huskies last 4 home games.
- Huskies are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
