Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Kent State Golden Flashes vs Buffalo Bulls
The Kent State Golden Flashes will travel to UB Stadium in Buffalo, New York, to battle the Buffalo Bulls on Tuesday night at 7:30 pm EST in a MAC showdown. The Golden Flashes atoned for a long losing streak in their last outing as they picked up the 35-28 road win over the Flacons of Bowling Green. The Buffalo Bulls maintained their top ranking within the MAC East division in getting a 51-42 home win over the Red Hawks of Miami of Ohio as both teams racked up almost a thousand yards in total offense for the contest. The last time these two teams met was on September 30, 2017 as the bulls got the 27-13 road win to where they covered as 7.5 favorites. In fact, the Bulls have covered well (4-0 ATS in last four) while Kent State has been a covering machine as well in going 3-1 ATS in their last four outings.
Kent State Golden Flashes's Latest Performance :
Kent State’s defense has improved over the season. For a team that allows 34.6 points per game for the yer, in their last four games, they have only allowed their opponents 27 points. Not a big drop-off, however, in terms of analytics, this can be encouraging for this matchup. The offense has really let them down this year as they have been up and down all season. Nonetheless, they come in the with 57th ranked rushing game in putting up 177.8 yards on the ground per game while averaging a tad under 400 total yards per game. So, while their defenses allow points way too often, the offense, when clicking, can put up some points as well.
They illustrated this in their last outing as a Jo-El Shaw 18-yard run broke a 28 all tie in the fourth to seal the victory for the Golden Flashes with under two minutes remaining in the game. Shaw ended with 128 yards along with two TD’s in the win while Woody Barrett threw for 128 yards along with two TD’s. It would be fair to note that the Bulls defense has been middle of the road in stopping the run as they allow 160 yards rushing to their opponents per contest. On the other hand, they are only allowing a tad over 23 points per game while just 331 total yards per game.
Buffalo Bulls's Latest Performance :
After a near scare in the third quarter to where the Red Hawks tied the game at 42 all, the Bulls were able to score nine points in the final period as a Jaret Patterson four-yard touchdown run along with an Adam Matson field goal sealed the victory for Buffalo which kept them atop their division followed by a red-hot Ohio Bobcats team. In fact, both teams will meet in just two weeks as Ohio will play host; Nonetheless, the Bulls will have to take care of business as it relates to the Golden Flashes.
The offense for the Bulls have been on fire lately with Tyree Jackson rebounding from a horrible game to where he threw three interceptions in a 31-17 road win versus the Toledo Rockets last week, to throw for 358 yards along with three TD’s in their win versus the Red Hawks. Jarrett Patterson (96 yards, TD) along with Anthony Johnson (8 rec, 238 yards, 3 TD’s) were pivotal to the success of Buffalo in this game and, from the looks of it, will have another solid night versus a horrible defense for the Golden Flashes.
How Kent State Golden Flashes & Buffalo Bulls Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Kent State is 6-3 ATS while the OU is 3-6
Buffalo is 7-2 ATS while the OU is 6-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
While the Bulls may indeed pull out a victory in this contest, the Golden Flashes have been covering well this season at 6-3 ATS for the year. And again, the Bulls had their way with this team in last year’s matchup, so, they will certainly come in with confidence. This game should be an easy outing for Buffalo, however, if the team possesses a tendency to look ahead to their matchup with Ohio, I feel as though they will make this matchup a lot harder than what it needs to be.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Buffalo Bulls
My reason for the pick :
While the Golden Flashes will make this game interesting, look for the Bulls to right the ship at critical moments in this game. The fact is that they are simply more talented that the Golden Flashes, which will ultimately be the reason as to why they will win this home matchup. The Bulls have been a bit giving in runs allowed from scrimmage lately, which could certainly play a factor for the Golden Flashes, however, look for the Bulls to limit their rushing attack over time in which to take control of the game late.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under
My reason for the prediction :
The under was the play in the last outing versus these two teams and I expect this to be the case in this matchup as well. The under has also been the play in four of the last five games for Kent State while being the result in two of the last three games for the Bulls. And yes, the Golden Flashes are horrible on defense, yet gave up only 27 points to this Bulls squad last year on the road. In all, look for the under to be the strong play in this matchup.
