Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Louisville Cardinals vs Syracuse Orange

The Louisville Cardinals will battle the 24th ranked Syracuse Orange on Friday night at 7 pm EST at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse New York.  The Cardinals were blasted on the road by the Clemson Tigers by a 77-16 score in their last time out to where the defense allowed 661 total yards to Clemson while racking up only 312 yards as a team.  The Orange picked up a 41-24 road win versus the Wake Forest Demon Deacons as they capitalized on three turnovers while allowing the Demon Deacons only a four of 16 conversion rate on third down.  The last time these two teams met was on November 18, 2017 as the Cardinals, as 13.5-point home favorites, picked up the 56-10 home win as they racked up over 700 yards total offense along with over 400 yards on the ground as the Orange defense was destroyed in the blowout loss.

Louisville Cardinals's Latest Performance :

Louisville has been just the opposite of the Orange as they come into the game losers of six straight games, overall, while losing each of their four road games this year.  And while Jared Pass and the offense has had a rough go of it this year in putting up only 21.6 points per game while averaging only 113 yards on the ground per game, the defense has not been very effective at all in allowing 41 points per game to their opponents.  Their last opponent in Clemson made sure to exploit their defenses ability to give up big plays as they hung 77 on the Cardinals at home while also allowing Pass to throw for 110 yards along with two picks while the rushing attack only had 68 yards rushing for the game.

Fumbles, failure to convert on third down, along with 100 yards in penalties can also be the culprit for he Cardinals last loss, however, it only point out that Louisville is simply not a good team.  Their offense has struggled, as stated, however, aside from their pass defense which is ranked 23rd in the league, they rank 100 or worse in every other defensive category.  In all, they have nothing to play for including a bowl game and will simply look to end the season on a strong note.  However, they are facing a team in Syracuse that has given up points as well to their opponents recently, so, they may have some success.

Syracuse Orange's Latest Performance :

With road games coming up versus the Notre Dame Fighting Irish along with 2nd seeded Boston College, the second-place team in the Atlantic division of the ACC, the Wolfpack, will certainly need to win this week versus a Louisville team that has struggled all year on both sides of the ball.  As stated, with a win over the Cardinals along with a victory their season ending matchup versus the Eagles, look for the Orange to finish second in the division, assuming Clemson will win out.  Nonetheless, they have won three straight games in averaging over 40 points in each outing.  On the other hand, the defense has not done well in neutralizing the opposing offense lately as they have allowed almost 40 points per game during this time.

They would, however, allow just 24 points to the Wake Forest demon Deacons in their last outing as they recovered two fumbles while getting an interception from Sam Hartman in the loss.  Eric Dungy only threw for 150 yards yet threw no picks along with TD’s.  They simply did not have to utilize the passing attack as much after their offense racked up 264 yards on the ground in this contest with Dungy having 119 yards along with a rush TD.  Jarveon Howard also rushed for two TD’s in the game as the Orange are back on track after a shaky two game skid just a few weeks ago which saw them lose to Clemson and Pitt in back to back weeks.  Again, they must continue their stellar play in this matchup if they want to go in with momentum in which to pick up wins versus a top five national team such as Notre Dame in South Bend along with go up to Chestnut hill in which to dominate the Eagles to end the season.

How Louisville Cardinals & Syracuse Orange Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Louisville is 1-7 ATS while the OU is 5-3

Syracuse is 5-2-1 ATS while the OU is 5-3

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Louisville continues to struggle on both sides of the ball while the Orange continues to put points on the board.  Look for the defense for Syracuse to play much better due to facing a dismal offense that cannot seem to convert on third down while committing too many turnovers.  The Orange will certainly have the momentum going into the game as they need to continue to win in preparation for their last two games of the year.  In all, this will be an interesting game from the standpoint that you wonder if the Orange may be caught looking to their Notre Dame matchup next week during this contest.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Syracuse Orange

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Orange in this matchup as I believe that they will indeed move the ball effectively throughout this game.  Also, they have played well at home this season, thus allowing me to feel as if they certainly have a leg up versus a Louisville team that has struggled both at home and on the road in 2018.  In all, look for Syracuse to give up some points, however, they will indeed score the bulk of those points in a game to where they will win outright while covering.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

With the yards that both teams are currently giving up combined with the points that the Orange can put up in a game, I will certainly back the over in their contest.  Also, it has been the play in five straight for the Cardinals along with three of their last four for the Orange.  With that being said, look for the over to be the strong play in this matchup amongst a red-hot Orange offense versus a very giving defense for Louisville.
