Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Maryland Terrapins vs Indiana Hoosiers

The Maryland Terrapins will travel to Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana, to take on the Indiana Hoosiers at noon on Saturday afternoon in Big Ten action.  Maryland continues to trade wins for losses as they suffered a 24-3 home loss to the Michigan State Spartans last Saturday as they were shut out in the second half while only mustering three points versus a solid defense.  Nonetheless, they fell to fifth place in the Big Ten East division while being 0-2 ATS in their last two Big Ten road games.  The Hoosiers lost their fourth straight game as they would lose by a 38-31 score on the road versus the Minnesota Golden Gophers in heir last time out.  These team teams met last on October 28, 2017 as the Terps picked up the 42-39 home win as they got 174 yards on the ground along with three rushing TD’s to get the victory.

Maryland Terrapins's Latest Performance :

The Terrapins have also struggled this year.  But unlike the Hoosiers who have defensive struggles, Maryland has problems recently in scoring as well as on the defensive end with giving up too many big plays to opposing offenses.  For the year, however, they are averaging 28 points per game, however, one cannot help but notice a huge drop-off in scoring at on the road versus Big Ten talent.  In their last two road outings versus the Big Ten, they have only put up an average of 11 points per game as both outings resulted in losses.  They were 4-1 at home, nonetheless, before they ran into Michigan State last weekend and suffered a blowout loss in mustering only a field goal from Joseph Petrino.  In fact, they could only rack up 100 total yards for the game as their rushing attack averaged .9 yards per rush while the passing attack put up only 74 yards for the game with Kasim Hill having only 74 yards on eight for 21 pass attempts.

For the year, Hill has been off an on as in their last three wins, all at home, he threw seven TD’s while having no picks; However, in the last three losses for the Terps, with two being on the road, he has no touchdowns along with three interceptions.  They will certainly need to utilize their 26th ranked rushing attack with Anthony McFarlane in which to test the resolve of a defense in the Hoosiers that give up 160 yards per outing, good for 67th in the country.

Indiana Hoosiers's Latest Performance :

The Hoosiers lows are now at their lowest point as they have lost four straight games to where the defense allowed 30 or more points in each outing.  And while their offense continues to put up points this year as they are averaging 30 points per game, the defense has been the culprit for their inconsistent play in 2018 since beginning the season at 4-1.  Nonetheless, with their most recent loss Indiana is now in sixth place within the Big Ten East division with remaining games at Michigan along with Purdue.  Furthermore, as it relates to the Bowl season, the Hoosiers need two out of three wins in which to be eligible.

They played well enough to win in their last matchup versus the Minnesota Golden Gophers yet the offense for the Hoosiers had three turnovers while collecting 232 yards in the air as Peyton Ramsey  passed for two TD’s along with two picks in the loss.  Stevie Scott and the rushing attack put up 153 yards on the ground with Scott leading the way with 96 yards along with a rushing score for the Hoosiers.  Nonetheless, the defense, despite collecting four turnovers in the game, allowed 180 yards on the ground to the Golden Gophers while also allowing their passing game 302 yards along with three touchdown passes from Tanner Morgan, which made the huge difference.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for both teams to be focused on the task at hand in this matchup.  The Hoosiers will not win the East division crown this year, yet will certainly look to become bowl eligible with two more wins.  However, it will not be easy for them to accomplish this with games versus Michigan and resilient Purdue coming up.  Maryland, on the other hand, also looks to become bowl eligible as they stand at 5-4 due to a very promising start to the season.  However, since their 4-1 start, they have lost their last four games.  As stated, they will lead with their rushing attack for this game and may find success versus a team in the Hoosiers that are given up a large amount of points recently.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Maryland Terrapins

My reason for the pick :

While the Hoosiers may very well come into this game slight underdogs, I will take the points with the road team in this game while also picking them to win outright.  Of course, Indiana has the potential to be a much better team as they showed earlier in the season, however, their defense is horrible and will succumb to this rushing attack of Maryland in the end.  Look for the Terps to keep the game tight, nonetheless, while sealing the victory on a late score in what will be an exciting game.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under

My reason for the prediction :

I will ride with the under in this contest as the Hoosiers passing attack will be matched up up against the 13th ranked pass defense for the Terps in this contest, which means that this matchup will be interesting and competitive throughout.  Nonetheless, with Maryland’s stellar pass defense hoping to take some points off the board for Indiana’s offense while the rushing attack for Maryland eating up clock while punishing a porous Indiana defense, I will back the under in this instance.
