Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
South Carolina Gamecocks vs Florida Gators
The South Carolina Gamecocks will make a trip to Florida this weekend to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Florida to battle the 14th ranked Florida Gators for a noon start time on Saturday afternoon. The Gators are coming off back to back losses to where their offense has not been able to move the chains while their defense is also struggling. Their most recent loss was at home to Missouri, who jumped all over the Gators from the start while racking up 220 yards on the ground in a 38-17 win.
On the other hand, the Gamecocks have won three of their last four games (two straight) and will like nothing more than to build off their success by unseating the Gators from their 3rd place seeding within the SEC East division. USC’s last win was a 48-44 road win over the Ole Miss Rebels as their defense came up with some big plays at the end in what was an offensive showing throughout by both teams as they collected over 1100 yards in total offense for the contest.
The Gamecocks picked up the win in the last outing amongst these teams by a 28-20 score as the Gamecocks covered as 4.5 home favorites on November 11, 2017. The road team in 3-1-1 ATS in the last five games while the under has been the play in four of the last five games amongst the teams.
South Carolina Gamecocks's Latest Performance :
The Gamecocks have resurrected their season in winning three of their last four outings. And while their offense has been up and down all season, they have performed a bit better recently due to the play of the passing attack with Jake Bentley going 6/2 as it relates to touchdown/interception ratio in this last three games as he has also thrown for 200 yards or more in five of seven games this year. He had a great game versus an awful Ole Miss defense in passing for 363 yards along with three TD’s while the rushing attack was led by Mon Denson who had 100 yards on 11 carries in the win. Brian Edwards along with Ty’Son Williams combined for seven catches for 209 yards along with a score for Edwards to lead the receiving corps.
The defense was nonexistent as they allowed 237 yards on the ground while Jordan Ta’amu threw for 379 yards for the contest. In all, Ole Miss was able to rack up 616 total yards on the game while holding the ball for over 35 minutes.
Florida Gators's Latest Performance :
After being 6-1 and possessing the top spot within the SEC East division, the Gators have lost two in a row while also falling to the third place slot behind Kentucky and the Georgia Bulldogs. Another interesting point is that their opponent for this week is tied with them within the division and will certainly seek to knock them from their ranks once again with a victory this week. The defense for Florida is allowing 37 points per game in their last two outings while the offense put up only a combined 34 points in both games. Felipe Franks has been awful lately in throwing for only 189 yards during their current, two game skid while throwing for only an interception with no touchdown passes.
In the Gators loss to the Tigers in their last outing, he passed for only 84 yards. This has certainly affected the rushing attack as Lamichael Perrine has only averaged out 50 yards per game in his last two with no touchdowns. In fact, he ended the game with 42 yards rushing on ten carries in the Gators loss to Missouri. In all, the Gators are in desperate need of a better performance on offense.
Their defense, as stated, are allowing 21 points per game to their opponents, however, they have constantly given up points during the team’s recent slide yet will seek to perform much better versus a USC team that has had a tendency to struggle on offense all year long, despite putting up 48 points in their last outing.
How South Carolina Gamecocks & Florida Gators Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
South Carolina is 4-4 ATS while the OU is 4-4
Florida is 6-3 ATS while the OU is 4-4
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This game will certainly be a slug fest as both teams will be looking to get a win to either maintain their division standing, or, to increase their positioning all together. Florida continues to struggle on both sides of the ball yet will look to take advantage of a Gamecock defense that gives up a ton of yards to the tune of over 400 yards per game. With that being said, look for their defense to stifle a rushing attack for USC that may be without leading rusher Rico Dowdle along with Williams due to injury. USC will have to depend more on Bentley and the passing game that is ranked 48th in the nation while the Gators are allowing only 179 yards per game, good for 18th in the country.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Florida Gators -6.5
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Gators in this instance due to the Gamecocks giving up so many points lately. Of course, the Gators have also been generous in this area lately, I happen to attribute this to simply having two bad weeks at the office. With that being said, look for the offense to come out of their funk this weekend as they will outlast the Gamecocks at home while covering the spread versus a USC team that may be without critical pieces within their rushing attack.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 54
My reason for the prediction :
And while the Gators may indeed come out of their offensive slump versus a shaky South Carolina defense, they will not take advantage of many of their opportunities, thus affecting the score. It is for this reason that I will back the under in this instance as the Gators defense will play much better in this contest while locking down Bentley and the USC offense. In all, the Gators will score just enough points to cover while also halting their two-game losing streak.
