Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Washington State Cougars vs Colorado Buffaloes

The 11th ranked Washington State Cougars will travel to Folsom Field in Boulder Colorado to battle the Buffaloes in Pac 12 action on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm EST.  The Cougars come into the matchup winners of their last five games while picking up a win last weekend over the Cal Bears by a 19-13 score at home.  And while their offense was not itself, the defense held the Bears rushing attack to 3.1 yards per rush while collecting two turnovers in the much-needed win.

The Buffaloes continue to lose games as they suffered yet another defeat at the hands of Arizona on the road in their last outing by a 42-34 score.  Despite three touchdown passes along with 343 yards from Stephen Montez, the Buffs could not overcome five touchdown passes along with 350 yards from Khalil Tate for the Wildcats.  The loss sent the Buffaloes to their fourth straight defeat.  The Cougars shut out the Buffs in their last outing by a 28-0 score while covering as nine-point favorites.

Washington State Cougars's Latest Performance :

The Washington State Cougars are in the catbird seat as they sit atop the Pac 12 North division with a battle at home versus their rival Washington looming in a few weeks.  With Colorado and Arizona coming up on the schedule, they will surely need to ensure that they are focused on the task at hand.  The great thing about the Cougars this year has been their ability to not only blowout teams with their potent passing attack with Garner Minshew under center, but, to also pull out games that are a bit more competitive.  In other words, five of eight wins for the Cougars have been blowouts.  On the other hand, they have proven that they can also win when the pressure can be a bit more intense by pulling out three of four wins that were decided by seven points or less.  Their only loss was on the road versus the USC Trojans late September.

Nonetheless, the Cougars continued to roll since that loss as their latest victim being the Cal Bears as Minshew threw for 331 yards along with a TD and a pick.  The offense put up over 400 yards of total offense while the defense held the offense for the Bears to under 300 for the game.  Cal also averaged 3.1 yards per rush while Chase Garbers threw for 127 yards, a TD, and an interception in the loss.  In all, the win by the Cougars was a team effort, to which they will look to duplicate in this all-important matchup versus the Buffs.

Colorado Buffaloes's Latest Performance :

Colorado has had a disastrous Pac 12 season this year as they have lost four straight outing thanks to a 42-34 road loss to the Arizona Wildcats in their last time out.  And while the offense with Steven Montez and company continuing to put points on the board, the Colorado defense continues to give up points much too often lately.  In all, opponents are putting up 40 points per game versus the Buffaloes defense in the last two outings.  This is in stark contrast to them allowing within the low 20’s in the first half of the season along with their first two Pac 12 matchups for 2018.  Nonetheless, a road loss to the Trojans of USC last month set them off into a downward spiral which caused them to lose three straight.

As stated, Montez threw for his second straight 300-yard game versus Arizona while also throwing for three TD’s during the contest.  However, the rushing attack was nonexistent as they only gained 40 yards on the night with Traevon McMillion having 59 yards on eleven carries.  Look for them to have problems with a stout defense in the Cougars which are ranked 24th in the country in total yards allowed per game with 326 per.

How Washington State Cougars & Colorado Buffaloes Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Washington State is 8-1 ATS while the OU is 6-3

Colorado is 5-4 ATS while the OU is 3-6

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this to be a defensive minded affair as the Buffaloes will certainly aim to get themselves back on track at home, albeit versus a dangerous offensive attack in the Cougars.  Nonetheless, look for both defenses to take center stage as the Cougars, ranked 33rd in the country in defending the pass, will certainly be ready for the challenge that Minshew and the offense for the Cougars bring.  On the other hand, Washington cannot afford a slip up in this game and will be looking to get off to a winning start early to allow their defense to preserve the win in the end.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Colorado Buffaloes +6

My reason for the pick :

I will certainly back the home team with the points in this matchup.  While the Cougars have been pass happy all season (and very effective at it, I might add), look for the Colorado defense of earlier in the season to show up at home on Saturday to allow their team to keep this game close while possibly pulling off the upset.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 61

My reason for the prediction :

Sixty-one points seems much too much for two defenses that will be taking the field on Saturday in this contest.  In fact, with Colorado continuing to give up points along with Washington state looking to score with every possession, there must be many who feel as it the scoreboard will light up in this game.  I happen to believe it will not since the Buffs are allowing just 23 points per game at home this year while being 3-1 SU for the year.  With that being said, look for defense to be the plan of the day in this game as the under will certainly be the strong play.

  • Over is 5-0 in Cougars last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.

  • Over is 4-0 in Cougars last 4 games on grass.
