Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Wisconsin Badgers vs Penn State Nittany Lions

The up and down Wisconsin Badgers will travel to Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania, to battle the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday afternoon at noon.  The Badgers are 2-2 in their last four outings and picked up a huge 31-17 home win over the Rutgers Scarlett Knights in their last time out.  On the other hand, Penn State was embarrassed on the road versus the Michigan Wolverines as they fell by a 42-7 score.  The Nittany Lions put up only 186 yards for the game while Trace McSorley threw for only 83 yards and a pick.

In all, the Nittany lions have lost three of their last five games and will certainly be looking to get back on track with a win.  Penn State may be getting the Badgers at a great time as they won and covered in their matchup last year by a 38-31 score as the Nittany Lions covered as 3-point underdogs.  The over has been the play in the last five outings amongst these teams while the Badgers are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings versus Penn State.

Wisconsin Badgers's Latest Performance :

Wisconsin has been up and down lately on both sides of the ball.  Nonetheless, it is a fact that they are much better at home (5-1 SU) than they are on the road (1-2 SU).  With that being the case, they preceded to get back into the win column with a convincing win over the lowly Rutgers Scarlett Knights in last weekend’s matchup.  Most importantly, they picked up the win due to their 4th ranked rushing attack that put up 3217 yards on the ground and led by Jonathan Taylor who rushed for 208 yards along with three touchdowns.  This is in response to their last game versus Northwestern to which he had only 46 yards rushing, thus breaking his streak of consecutive games with 100 or more yards (7).

On the other hand, Wisconsin could get nothing much out of their passing attack that currently ranks 110th in the league as this area would only account for 156 yards total as Alex Hornibrook threw for 92 yards and two picks.  In fact, In Hornibrook’s last three games, he has thrown four TD’s alongside six picks.

The defense for Wisconsin has been solid in allowing just 20 points per game, however, in their last two road games, the D has allowed 34 per game to their opponents.  Most alarming, the offense has put up only 15 points per game during this time.  In all, Wisconsin could likely struggle on offense in this contest on Saturday with a pesky and ticked off Penn State defense that were flat out pushed around last week versus the Wolverines.

Penn State Nittany Lions 's Latest Performance :

Just when one may have thought that the Nittany Lions had turned the corner from two consecutive losses, they prove him/her wrong in laying an egg in one of their biggest games of the year.  A 42-6 shellacking by Michigan is what sent Penn State back to reality once again this year as they are certainly struggling as a squad at a terrible time of year.  And even being at home versus the Badgers may not give them the type of advantage that they need in that they are only 1-2 in Happy Valley this season.

Of course, playing on the road has been a bit kinder as they came into the Michigan game undefeated on the road, yet were destroyed by a Michigan defense that held them scoreless for three quarters until Tommy Stevens scored on an eight-yard run to break the shutout.  Trace McSorley, who has thrown only one TD along with three picks in his last three games, only threw for 83 yards and a pick in the game while the rushing attack posted only 68 yards total.

The defense for the Nittany Lions allowed the highly ranked rushing offense or Michigan to put up 259 yards for the game with a 5 yards per rush average.  Shea Patterson threw for two touchdowns while scoring a TD on the ground as well.  Karan Higdon had the bulk of the yardage for the Wolverines as he finished with 132 yards and a score for a Wolverine team that remains in the top spot within the East division of the Big Ten.

How Wisconsin Badgers & Penn State Nittany Lions Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Wisconsin is 2-7 ATS while the OU is 5-2

Penn State is 5-4 ATS while the OU is 7-2

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Look for this game to be won within the trenches as both teams will be looking to establish their dominating rushing attacks.  This edge certainly goes to Wisconsin as they have a rushing attack that is averaging 273 yards per game while the Nittany Lions are giving up 172 yards per game, good for 79th in the country.  On the other hand, Penn State has the 34th ranked rushing attack that will square off versus a Badger defense that allows 160 yards per outing.  Despite both passing games struggling, one would have to give a slight nod to Penn State with McSorley as Hornibrook has been awful all year.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Penn State Nittany Lions -8

My reason for the pick :

The Nittany Lions are 3-1 ATS in their last four home games, while the Badgers have covered in only one road game this year.  Combine this with the fact that the Badgers have exchanged wins for losses all season, look for them to have a bad go of it this week versus a Penn State team that should really be fired up to play and get back onto the field after being ran off the Stadium in Ann Arbor in their last outing.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 53.5

My reason for the prediction :

This will certainly be an under game with both teams looking to utilize their rushing attacks throughout the game.  Of course, neither team will find much momentum early as this will be such an important game for both, particularly division standings.  With that being said, expect both squads to fight for every inch in this matchup.  In all, the clock will tick as the rushing game will take its toll, thus allowing for the under to be the strong play on Saturday in this Big Ten showdown.
