Miami (Ohio) RedHlawks vs Northern Illinois Huskies
Northern Illinois will play their 2nd consecutive home game at Huskie Stadium as they will play MAC conference foe in the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks. Northern Illinois and Miami (Ohio) last met back in 2015 @ Miami (Ohio) which was a lopsided blowout win for the Huskies, 45-12.
Miami (Ohio) RedHlawks's Latest Performance :
Miami (Ohio) has racked up every single win in conference play as they have gone 4-2 since the start of MAC play but their recent win over the Ohio Bobcats was easily their biggest one. The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks were able to get off to a good start by scoring 28 unanswered points in the first half, and although the Bobcats were able to climb back into the game Miami (Ohio) was still able to win 30-28. The RedHawks received a big game from running back redshirt senior Alonzo Smith as he was able to rack up 94 yards and 2 TDs. Smith has easily been the best running back for the RedHawks as he has racked up a total of 499 yards and 6 TDs this season. The RedHawks also have a veteran QB in redshirt senior Gus Ragland who has been solid all season as he has thrown 16 TDs to 3 interceptions. Although Ragland has an amazing stat line this season he had his worse game since week 4 as he only threw for 199 yards, 1 TD, and 1 interception. Kenny Young had a solid game through the air for the RedHawks as the redshirt senior was able to rack up 7 catches which went for 67 yards. On the defensive side of the ball, the RedHawks were led by yet another redshirt senior as Brad Koenig added to his team-high in tackles (91) as he racked up 8. Koenig was only able to rack up 1 TFL but the redshirt senior out of Michigan has been in opposing teams backfields all year long as he has a team-high in TFL with 11.
Northern Illinois Huskies 's Latest Performance :
Northern Illinois has run through conference play as they are entering this game 6-0 in the MAC and the Huskies can lock up the MAC West with just one more victory. The Huskies are coming off an impressive home victory over a high octane offense in the Toldeo Rockets as they won 38-15. The Huskies are not known for a powerful offensive but they received a big game out of their RBs as Tre Harbison and Marcus Jones both eclipsed the 100+ yard mark. Harbison has been the lead running back all season for the Huskies and he proved efficient in their recent matchup as he ran for 139 yards which put his season total at 804 yards and 4 TDs. QB Marcus Childers didn’t eclipse the 100+ yard rushing mark but the redshirt sophomore accounted for 2 rushing TDs. Childers had an average game through the air as he went 13/19 for 131 yards, 1 TD, and 1 interception. The Huskies don’t ask much out of their passing game which is a huge reason why the redshirt sophomore has only racked up 1383 yards all season. The Huskies bread and butter is on the defensive side of the ball and they showed exactly why with 5 total sacks and 11 TFL. DT Jack Heflin had a big game for the Huskies as the redshirt sophomore was able to rack up 3.5 TFL and 2.5 sacks which contributed to his season total of 7 TFL and 5 sacks. The Huskies star DE Sutton Smith was awfully quiet on the stat sheet as he only had 1 sack but that sack was crucial as he forced a fumble. Smith was also able to block a punt which he returned for 27 yards and a TD, two huge momentum swings for the Huskies.

Against The Spread Selection: Northern Illinois Huskies
My reason for the pick :
The Northern Illinois Huskies are playing some of their best football as of recent as they have continued playing stingy defense and have now developed an effecting running game. Miami (Ohio) is playing in a letdown type of game as they are coming off a big win over their rival Ohio while the Huskies only need 1 more win to lock up the West division in the MAC. There is a saying that defense wins championships and I hold that to be true in this matchup as well as I think the 26th ranked scoring defense will overpower the 77th ranked scoring offense at home. Take Northern Illinois to lock up the West division at home.
