Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Toledo Rockets vs Kent State Golden Flashes

The Kent State Golden Flashes will return home to Dix Stadium after playing in 2 straight road games as they will welcome in fellow MAC foe in the Toledo Rockets, the opening kick is slated for 6:00 PM. Toledo is seeking their 5th consecutive bowl appearance while Kent State is looking to stay healthy and move forward to next season.

Toledo Rockets's Latest Performance :

The Toledo Rockets are having a down year to their standards as they are usually in contention for a MAC championship but uncertainty at the QB position has left the Rockets flirting around missing a bowl game. The Rockets have had a ton of injuries at the QB position which has left them to start sophomore Eli Peters. Peters has thrown for 1262 yards on the season as well as 12 TDs but the one knock on the Florida native is the fact that he turns the ball over a lot. Peters in their most recent game against the Nothern Illinois Huskies threw the ball 47 times where he connected with his WRs 26. Senior Cody Thompson was on the receiving end for 8 catches and 110 yards which puts his season total at 535 yards and although he didn’t reach the end zone he still leads the team with 10 TDs. There wasn’t much of a ground game from the Rockets as the top RB was Art Thompkins as the junior rushed for 62 yards on 12 carries. The defense was shredded on the ground last go around as they let Northern Illinois rush for 296 yards. Senior safety Josh Teachy had a solid game from the back end of the defense as he hit double-digits in tackles with 10 as well as added to his 9 pass deflections. Redshirt freshmen safety Zach Ford was able to come down with the lone interception of the game as he picked off Northern Illinois QB Marcus Childers.

Kent State Golden Flashes's Latest Performance :

The Kent State Golden Flashes have not made a bowl game since 2012 and nothing looks like it is going to change as the Golden Flashes have only won 2 games all season. The Kent State Golden Flashes are coming off an embarrassing road loss against the Buffalo Bulls as they were blown out 48-14. The starting QB has been Woody Barrett all season but the former Auburn Tiger struggled against Buffalo which led to him being benched for sophomore Dustin Crum. Crum came into the game and threw for 56 yards and 1 TD as well as added 66 yards on the ground with a TD there as well. Besides Crum rushing for 66 yards there was not much offense generated especially on the ground game as Jo-el Shaw was only able to rush for 50 yards on 20 carries. The Kent State Golden Flashes top pass catcher Mike Carrigan was only able to compile 2 catches for 13 yards but one of those catches went for a TD which puts his season total at 4. The defense couldn’t stop much for the Golden Flashes as they were shredded on the ground but LB Dalton Hicks had a solid game from the middle of the defense. Hicks was able to hit double-digits in the tackle department as he had 10 tackles which puts him at 54 tackles on the season.

Against The Spread Selection: Toledo Rockets

My reason for the pick :

I will be siding with the Toledo Rockets in this MAC Thursday night game as they will come out with a sense of fire after being embarrassed by the Northern Illinois Huskies last week. Toledo has a lot more to play for this in this game as they do not want to miss the postseason and if they want to get their 6th win this is the game to do so as Kent State is simply not a good team. Eli Peters should have a solid game on the road as the secondary of Kent State is not good and he will gain a much-needed confidence booster moving forward. Take Toledo to win on the road.
