Wisconsin Badgers vs Purdue Boilermakers

The Purdue Boilermakers return to Ross-Ade Stadium for the final home game of the season as they will host a Big Ten foe in the Wisconsin Badgers, the opening kickoff is slated for 3:30 PM. The Purdue Boilermakers are 1 game away from becoming bowl eligible while the Wisconsin Badgers are 6-4 on the season.

Wisconsin Badgers's Latest Performance :

The Wisconsin Badgers have been the favorite to win the Big Ten West division the last few seasons but this year they have experienced a down year as they currently sit at 4-3 in the conference. The Wisconsin Badgers are coming off a loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions in what was a defensive battle for most of the game. The Badgers elected to start sophomore QB Jack Coan after Alex Hornibrook was unable to go and Coan looked inexperienced and rattled in a hostile environment. Coan was only able to connect on 9 passes for 60 yards but on top of that, he threw 2 interceptions. The Badgers relied on their amazing RB Jonathan Taylor and the sophomore delivered as he rushed for 185 yards on 20 carries with 1 TD. Taylor has eclipsed the 1000+ yard mark once again as he enters this game with 1548 yards and 12 TDs. A.J. Taylor has been the explosive playmaker from the WR position but he was kept quiet this past week as he didn’t have 1 catch, Taylor leads all WRs with 406 yards and 3 TDs. The defense held up for the Badgers despite the 2 interceptions Coan threw as they held Penn State to only 160 yards through the air. LB T.J. Edwards had a great game as the senior was able to rack up 14 tackles which gives him a team-high 75 tackles. OLB Zack Baun had a good game as well as the junior was able to get home to the QB for 1.5 sacks.

Purdue Boilermakers's Latest Performance :

The Purdue Boilermakers entered their latest matchup against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on a high note as they beat a ranked Iowa Hawkeyes team but they were brought back to earth after they got smashed on the road 41-10. Purdue has been known for its explosive offense but they were unable to get anything generated on the road and the root of the problem started with the QB position. David Blough has been good all year for Jeff Brohm and company as he has thrown for 2825 yards and 18 TDs but his last outing wasn’t pretty as he completed 20 passes but only for 142 yards. The running game which was so successful against Ohio State was also shut down as redshirt senior D.J. Knox was only able to get going for 34 yards on 10 carries. Knox has been the backbone for the Boilermakers as he has racked up 787 yards and 8 TDs but when he is only held to 3.4 yards per carry it often results in an L. Despite the bad play out of most the playmakers for Boilermakers the electric Rondale Moore had a solid game as he caught 8 balls for 76 yards and 1 TD. The Boilermakers got shredded defensively but they received yet another solid performance out of junior LB Markus Bailey as he compiled 9 tackles which makes him the leading tackler with 77. Antonio Blackmon was able to come down with his 1st interception of the season which gives the defense 9 on the season.

Against The Spread Selection: Purdue Boilermakers -5.5

My reason for the pick :

I will be siding with the Purdue Boilermakers in this matchup given how well they have played at home against tougher competition (Ohio State, Iowa). The Boilermakers have a highly explosive offense but they were unable to get going against Minnesota but with Brohm at the helm for Purude, I expect the offense to be sharpened up for their home finale. Given how bad the Wisconsin QBs have been this year I expect the Boilermakers to stack the box to stop Taylor and force Hornibrook or Coan to throw the ball. Take Purdue to win at home and become bowl eligible.
