Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Florida Atlantic Owls vs North Texas Mean Green
The North Texas Mean Green will play in their final home game of the season at Apogee Stadium as they will welcome in C-USA foe in the Florida Atlantic Owls which is a rematch of the 2017 conference championship game. Florida Atlantic became a step closer bowl eligibility in a win over Western Kentucky last week while North Texas is fighting for a better position in terms of bowl resume.
Florida Atlantic Owls's Latest Performance :
The FAU Owls are experiencing a down year after demolishing every team in their way last season and the Owls still need to win 1 more game to become bowl eligible for a 2nd consecutive year. The Owls have an extremely large amount of talent on their roster and that starts with QB Chris Robison who started his career at Oklahoma as Baker Mayfield’s backup. Robison has been shaky at times this year but he was a solid game manager in their recent win over Western Kentucky as he completed 17 of his 21 passes for 231 yards. The ground game is where the Owls were able to have a big game as Kerrith White Jr. rushed for 163 yards and 2 TDs and Devin Singletary rushed for 148 yards and 2 TDs. This is a normal outing for Singletary who has rushed for over 1021 yards and 18 TDs this season but with White Jr. having an outburst like this it gives Kiffin a sense of optimism for the running game. The Owls top WR in this outing was Tavaris Harrison as he caught 3 passes for 94 yards which contributes to his 247-yard season. The defense for the Owls has been hit or miss all season long but they were solid in this outing especially in the 2nd half as they held Western Kentucky to 6 points. Safety James Pierre had a good game from the back end of the defense as he was able to rack up 7 tackles which gives him 37 on the season. CB Shelton Lewis had the lone interception for the Owls which is the 5th of his career.
North Texas Mean Green's Latest Performance :
The North Texas Green Wave won’t be making an appearance in the conference championship game despite their 7-3 record and that can be accredited to all 3 losses coming within the conference. The Green Wave dropped a recent home game to a below average Old Dominion team 34-31 which put the dagger in championship hopes. North Texas star QB Mason Fine threw for 240 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 interception which is very unlike the junior QB out of Oklahoma. Fine before this game has thrown 21 TDs to only 1 interception as he has been very efficient with the ball this season but the turnover against Old Dominion was crucial. The Mean Green were able to receive a big game out of their ground attack as sophomore RB DeAndre Torrey rushed for 145 yards and 2 TDs which puts the back at 603 yards and 12 TDs. Fine was able to connect with his top WR Rico Bussey Jr. 6 times for 82 yards and 2 TDs. Bussey has been sensational for the Green Wave this season as the junior wideout leads the team with 904 yards and 12 TDs. On the defensive side of the ball, North Texas was led by senior DB Nate Brooks as he had a team-high 8 tackles which extends his season total to 46. DE LaDarius Hamilton was essentially unblockable for the Green Wave as the junior was able to get home to the QB on 2 separate occasions. Kemon Hall came down with the lone interception of the game for the Green Wave which gives him a team-high 4 on the season.

Against The Spread Selection: North Texas Mean Green
My reason for the pick :
Last year these two teams met 2 times but FAU won both outings in blowout fashion but this year is different as although North Texas is 3-3 in the conference so is FAU as they have experienced a down year way more than the Mean Green. North Texas is one of the few teams in the country who ranks inside the top 25 on both sides of the ball and while FAU has been explosive on the offensive side of the ball they have been exposed on the defensive side of things. FAU has also been awful this season ATS on the road while North Texas has performed fairly well at home. North Texas has revenge on their mind in this game even though it doesn’t mean much. North Texas gets a big win in their last home game.
Betting trends for Florida Atlantic Owls:
- FAU is 1-4 ATS when playing on the road this season.
Betting trends for North Texas Mean Green:
- North Texas is 0-2 ATS after a loss this season.
