Michigan State Spartans vs Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Nebraska Cornhuskers return home to Memorial Stadium for their final home game of the season as they will welcome in the Michigan State Spartans for a Big 12 clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 12:00 PM. The Michigan State Spartans are bowl eligible once again but they sit in the middle of the pack of a tough East division while the Nebraska Cornhuskers have gone 3-1 in their last 4 games.

Michigan State Spartans's Latest Performance :

The Michigan State Spartans have made themselves bowl eligible for the 11th time in 12 years under Mark Dantonio but they found themselves on the losing end last weekend at home against the big bad Ohio State. The Spartans have had QB struggles all season long and the Ohio State game was no different as starter Brian Lewerke failed to get much generated. Redshirt freshmen Rocky Lombardi came into the game and provided a slight spark for the Spartans as he completed 7 of 19 passes for 92 yards as well as rushed for 49 yards. This will be an ongoing QB battle moving forwards as Lewerke has only completed 54% of his passes with more interceptions (9) than TDs (8).  The Spartans have struggled without star RB LJ Scott and this game was no different as outside Lombardi rushing for 49 yards there were only 9 yards split among 3 ball carriers. Connor Heyward has been the Spartans leading rusher on the season but he was only able to pick up 1 yard on 4 carries. Despite the QB struggles sophomore WR Cody White was still able to get loose for 115 yards on 8 catches. White is the top WR for the Spartans after Felton Davis (474 yards, 4 TDs) went down with a season-ending injury. The Spartans defense was able to hold up most of the game behind a stiffening run defense but they eventually collapsed and let Ohio State score 17 points in the 4th quarter. Senior safety Khari Willis had a big game for the Spartans as he was able to rack up 15 tackles.

Nebraska Cornhuskers's Latest Performance :

The Scott Frost era did not get off to the start Nebraska fans expected but the team has rallied nicely under their 1st-year coach as they have won 3 of their last 4 games with their 1 loss coming against Ohio State on the road by 5 points. The Cornhuskers are coming off a nice 21 point victory over Illinois behind a strong offensive performance led by freshmen QB Adrian Martinez. Martinez has elevated his play over the last few weeks and this was another example of that as he threw for 290 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 interception. The former 4-star recruit was also able to add 55 yards and 1 TD on the ground. Martinez has quietly put together a nice freshmen season as he has thrown for 2212 yards, rushed for 535 yards and has combined for 22 TDs. The Cornhuskers received a huge game out of star RB Devine Ozigbo as he rushed for 162 yards and 3 TDs on 11 carries which puts him just shy of 1000 yards on the season as he now tallies 958 as well as 12 TDs. Martinez was able to hook up with his favorite target in Senior WR Stanley Morgan Jr. as he contributed 131 yards and 2 TDs. Scott Frost wasn’t known for his defense at UCF and the same can be said during his 1st season in Lincoln. Junior LB Mohamed Barry has easily been the best defender for the Cornhuskers this season as he has a team-high 86 tackles and his outing against Illinois was no different as he contributed 11 tackles. The Cornhuskers were able to pick off Illinois twice in the game as Mick Stoltenberg and Aaron Williams contributed 1 a piece.

My reason for the pick :

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have been scoring points at will over the last few weeks and even though Michigan State has one of the top defenses in the nation I still think they break through. Nebraska was able to score 31 points on Ohio State on the road while Michigan State was only able to score 6 on Ohio State at home. What that means is that Nebraska has a strong offense and with them playing in their last home game of the season I think they bring the heat one last time. I expect Scott Frost to throw it all out on the table to give Cornhusker fans a sense of hope moving into next season.
