Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Tulane Green Wave vs Houston Cougars

The Houston Cougars will play in their final home game of the season at TDECU Stadium as they will welcome in fellow AAC foe in the Tulane Green Wave. Both teams are tied for 1st place in the AAC West division and the loser is essentially eliminated from making the AAC title game.

Tulane Green Wave's Latest Performance :

The Tulane Green Wave are on the verge of making their first bowl game since 2013 and they are still in striking range from taking the AAC West division. The success of the Green Wave can be accredited to the change in QBs as the former LSU Tiger Justin McMillan has been as close to perfect as Willie Fritz and company can ask for. McMillian had a big outing in their recent game against East Carolina as the grad transfer threw for 373 yards and 3 TDs. McMillian has been good in terms of keeping the ball this season as he has 6 TDs compared to 0 interceptions in the early going. McMillan has also shown the ability to run the ball this season as he has compiled over 100 yards and 3 TDs on the ground. Junior WR Darnell Mooney had a big game on the receiving end of things as he came down with 6 catches for 217 yards and 2 TDs. Mooney has been the clear-cut best pass catcher for the Green Wave this season as he currently sits at 829 yards and 7 TDs. Darius Bradwell didn’t have a 100 yard game like he has been accustomed to but he wasn’t terrible either as he rushed for 77 yards. On the defensive side of the ball, Tulane received a big game out of their senior safety Roderic Teamer as he racked up 10 tackles and 1 sack. Safety P.J. Hall had a big game himself as the junior was able to come down with his 1st interception of the season which he returned for 20 yards.

Houston Cougars's Latest Performance :

The Houston Cougars may have one of the best defensive players to ever play college football but moving forward they need to establish a better gameplan because they are coming off an outing where they gave up 59 points to Temple which is not championship level football. The Cougars are led by arguably one of the most underrated QBs in college football as D’Eriq King has slung it all over the field all season and their latest matchup against Temple was no different as the junior threw for 322 yards and 5 TDs which puts his season total at 2900 yards and 35 TDs. King isn’t only a threat to destroy defenses through the air but also on the ground and he showed the ability to do so last week as he ran for 125 yards and a TD. The sensational QB is the leading rusher for the Cougars this season as he has picked up over 617 yards and 13 TDs. King hooked up with Bryson Smith 7 times for 117 yards and 3 TDs which is interesting considering Smith is labeled as a QB on the Cougars roster. The Cougars top WR Marquez Stevenson was only able to gain 31 yards but the sophomore still leads the team in yards (854) and TDs (9). The Cougars didn’t have many positives on the defensive side of the ball but the one positive is that they received a good game out of sophomore DB Deontay Anderson as he racked up 12 tackles from the backend. The Cougars are hoping that they get back Ed Oliver back especially considering they have been shredded on the ground over the last few games.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Cougars

My reason for the pick :

Tulane has been a shock to College Football fans this season as they have found themselves in the middle of a tight race in the AAC while Houston has slowed down after a hot start to the season. Tulane has been a much different team since McMillan has been inserted into the starting lineup but the way that King runs the Houston offense is unmatchable. King should shred an average defense in Tulane as I just don’t think that Tulane has the athletes to cover the amazing Houston WRs all game. Houston has also performed pretty well at home while Tulane has been a below average team on the road. Expect King and company to have a big game and eventually outscore Tulane and their offensive output.

Betting trends for Tulane Green Wave:

  • Tulane is 1-3 ATS after a win this season.

Betting trends for Houston Cougars:

  • Houston is 3-6 ATS after a loss since 2016.
