West Virginia Mountaineers's Latest Performance :
The West Virginia Mountaineers have found themselves in prime position to play for the Big 12 championship as they are 6-1 in conference play but first things first, they can’t lose from here on out. The Mountaineers were able to role over a below average TCU team in their latest outing as they received a big game from their offensive unit that has been one of the best in the NCAA. Heisman Trophy candidate Will Grier has continued his big redshirt senior season by throwing for over 343 yards and 3 TDs against a Gary Patterson ran defense. Grier has racked up 2961 yards through the air to go along with 31 TDs which is one of the top stat lines in college football. No RB hit the 100-yard mark in this game but Leddie Brown, Martell Pettaway, and Kennedy McKoy combined for 152 yards and 3 TDs. The Mountaineers use all three RBs in their gameplan and we have seen them all rush for 350+ yards and combine for 12 TDs on the season. The WRs stepped up as usual for Grier but an unusual contributor was able to have the biggest game out of any Mountaineer as Trevon Wesco recorded 5 catches for 86 yards and 1 TD. Wesco entered this outing without a TD on the season as well as only 13 catches. The defense for West Virginia has been improved from years past and we saw LB David Long have yet another big game. The redshirt junior didn’t only contribute 6 tackles but he was able to record 3 sacks to extend his season total to a team-high 7 sacks. The run defense was stiffening all game long as the Horned Frogs had 23 carries for a total of -2 yards.
Oklahoma State Cowboys's Latest Performance :
The Oklahoma State Cowboys may not be bowl eligible with 2 games remaining in the season but that doesn’t take away from their season success as they beat a good Texas team as well as pushed Oklahoma to the final minute of the game. Their latest game against the Sooners was an offensive shootout led by senior QB Taylor Cornelius who has stepped into the starting role nicely for Mason Rudolph. The redshirt senior shined against their biggest rival as he threw for over 501 yards and 3 TDs. Cornelius eclipsed the 3000-yard mark with his performance in this game as he now sits at 3118 and 23 TDs. Justice Hill (930 yards, 9 TDs) has been the top back all season for the Cowboys but the junior went down with a rib injury which opened the door for Chuba Hubbard. The redshirt freshmen had a coming out party for Mike Gundy as the 2nd string RB ran for 104 yards and 3 TDs. The WRs also had a huge game for Cornelius especially his favorite target sophomore Tylan Wallace as he caught 10 passes for 220 yards and 2 TDs. Wallace has passed the 1000-yard mark with 1272 yards and 9 TDs on the season which is a big upgrade from his freshmen season where he only contributed 118 yards. The Cowboys aren’t known for their defensive unit by any means but they were led by safety Malcolm Rodriquez and LB Kenneth Edison-McGruder who combined for 24 tackles on the game, Edison-McGruder also contributed 2 sacks.

My reason for the pick :
Oklahoma State is an underrated team which can be contributed to their record but West Virginia is no pushover as they look like a team who can crash the College Football Playoff pending some chaos. Both offenses are stellar this year but the one difference for me is the fact that West Virginia has a top 25 defense while Oklahoma State has one of the worst defenses in the nation. What that tells me is that West Virginia will be able to score at will and their defense will be able to make one or two stops to give them a 7-10 point lead. Grier has been in the spotlight before and he will continue pushing this team to the finish line. Take West Virginia to cover this small spread.
