Oklahoma Sooners vs West Virginia Mountaineers
The West Virginia Mountaineers will return home to Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium for the regular season finale as they will host the Oklahoma Sooners for a Big 12 clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 8:00 PM. The winner of this matchup will advance to the Big 12 championship game where they will most likely face the Texas Longhorns.
Oklahoma Sooners's Latest Performance :
The Oklahoma Sooners may have let the Kansas Jayhawks score 40 points on them but Kyler Murray and the high powered offense outscored them by putting 55 points up. The redshirt junior QB has been unreal for the Sooners this season and his latest outing was an indication of that as Murray threw for 272 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 interception while adding in 99 yards and 3 TDs on the ground. Murray has kept himself in the Heisman Trophy talks by throwing for 3310 yards, 34 TDs, and 6 interceptions while also adding in 739 yards and 10 TDs on the ground. Murray wasn’t the only guy to do damage on the ground against the Jayhawks as RB Kennedy Brooks rushed for 171 yards and 2 TDs on 25 carries. Brooks has filled in nicely for Rodney Anderson as the redshirt freshmen has 811 yards and 11 TDs on the season. The Sooners leading rusher Trey Sermon was only able to rack up 5 yards on 1 carry as he left the game early with an injury. Sermon has compiled 851 yards and 10 TDs on the season and he makes this offense that more dangerous with his presence. The Sooners leading WR Marquise Brown (1021 yards, 8 TDs) was unable to have his traditional big game as he was kept to 6 catches for 62 yards. The Sooners defense did not look good against the Jayhawks as they let one of the worst teams in D1 football rack up 40 points without forcing a turnover or recording a sack. Redshirt senior LB Curtis Bolton stayed busy all game as he racked up a team-high 10 tackles which pushes his season total to 113 tackles.
West Virginia Mountaineers's Latest Performance :
West Virginia looked like they were in the driver’s seat of the Big 12 after beating the Texas Longhorns a few weeks back but the Mountaineers blew a 31-14 lead in the 3rd quarter as Oklahoma State scored with less than a minute left to win 45-41 which makes this week a must-win game. The Mountaineers were good on the offensive side of the ball as always as their star QB Will Grier has continued to shred opposing teams secondaries. Grier was able to throw for 364 yards and 2 TDs which extends the redshirt senior to 3325 yards, 33 TDs, and 8 interceptions on the season which might earn him a bid for the Heisman Trophy. The Mountaineers received a big game on the ground out of junior RB Kennedy McKoy as he was able to break loose for 148 yards and 2 TDs on 21 carries. McKoy has been excellent for the Mountaineers this season as he has rushed for 647 yards and 6 TDs on the season. Grier was able to hook up with 2 of his favorite targets all game as Gary Jennings caught 7 passes for 92 yards and a TD while David Sills brought down 4 catches for 68 yards and a TD. Sills has been one of the top WRs in college football as the senior has compiled over 765 yards and 13 TDs on the season. The defense has been improved this season for the Mountaineers but they let Oklahoma State score 31 points in the 2nd half of the game. Keith Washington and Zach Sandwisch both picked off a pass while Kenny Robinson led the way with 9 tackles for the Mountaineers defense.

My reason for the pick :
A week ago I may have considered taking the Oklahoma Sooners in this matchup but after watching Kansas hang 40 points on their head at home with a QB who couldn’t throw for more than 200 yards I think the smarter chose is with the home team and the points. Grier is one of the best QBs in college football and if McKoy can continue picking up explosive plays for the Mountaineers on the ground we will start to see a ton of 1 on 1 coverage outside. Both offenses are explosive but the true difference for me in this game is the fact that West Virginia has a way better defense. The seniors on this Mountaineer teams want to go out with a bang and they will give it all they got on senior night. Take West Virginia and the points.
