Virginia Cavaliers vs Virginia Tech Hokies
The Virginia Tech Hokies will return home to Lane Stadium for the regular season finale as they will host their in-state rival in the Virginia Cavaliers in an ACC clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 3:30 PM. Virginia Tech may need to schedule another game to become bowl eligible depending on the result of this game while Virginia is having another good season.
Virginia Cavaliers's Latest Performance :
The Virginia Cavaliers have taken major steps in year 3 under Bronco Mendenhall as they went from a 2-10 team in 2016 to a 7-4 team in 2018 but more importantly, they will play in their 2nd consecutive bowl game this season. The Cavaliers are coming off a bad outing as they endured a tough road loss against Georgia Tech in overtime 30-27. QB Bryce Perkins was efficient for the Cavaliers as he completed 21 of his 26 passes for a total of 217 yards and a TD. The former Arizona State Sun Devil has also done damage on the ground this season and we saw that against Georgia Tech as he racked up 73 yards and a TD. Perkins has put together a good junior campaign as he has totaled 2213 yards, 19 TDs, and 9 interceptions through the air while also running for 730 yards and 9 TDs. RB Jordan Ellis was bottled up all game for the Cavaliers as he was held to only 33 yards on 12 carries which puts him at 868 yards on the season. The top WRs for the Cavaliers were able to expose an average Georgia Tech defense as Olamide Zaccheaus caught 11 passes for 111 yards while Joe Reed had 2 catches for 78 yards and a TD. The Virginia defense has been strong all season but they were unable to hold their own against Georgia Tech. Junior LB Jordan Mack led the way for the Cavaliers as he had a team-high 12 tackles while Tommy Christ contributed the lone sack of the game.
Virginia Tech Hokies's Latest Performance :
The Virginia Tech Hokies are enduring their worst season in recent memory as they currently sit 2 games below .500 and in 6th place of a weak ACC Coastal division. The Hokies season got worse when they got embarrassed at home last weekend against the Miami Hurricanes as they were unable to stop one of the worst offenses in the ACC. The Hokies were unable to get much going on offense as the ground game was shut down and they were turnover prone through the air. Former Kansas QB Ryan Willis was rattled by the Miami defense as he was only able to throw for 216 yards and a TD with 2 interceptions. Willis has been solid since coming on for Josh Jackson as he enters the final game of the season with a stat line of 1986 yards, 17 TDs, and 6 interceptions. The ground game was unable to break loose like we have seen at times this season as senior RB Steven Peoples was held to 40 yards on 10 carries. Peoples started the season off really well but he has since slowed down as he only has 589 yards and 5 TDs on the season. WR Tre Turner had a solid outing for the Hokies as he brought down 4 catches for 80 yards while adding 25 yards and a TD on the ground. The defense is young which is why we have seen them endure growing pains but they haven’t looked good since the Florida State game. Sophomore LB Rayshard Ashby continued his solid season by contributing a team-high 14 tackles which pushed his season total to 77 tackles. LB Dax Hollifield racked up 6 tackles while also recording his 2nd sack of the season.

Against The Spread Selection: Virignia Cavaliers -4
My reason for the pick :
The Virginia Cavaliers are playing some really good football despite losing last week and the Virginia Tech Hokies have been the opposite of good as they have dropped 4 straight. The Hokies one bright spot is their offense and we saw they were frustrated last week against a good defense and they will run into similar problems this weekend as they will face another good unit. Perkins is going to be a problem for the young Hokies defense as he could destroy them through the air or do it himself on the ground. Virginia has also been wonderful ATS on the road while Virginia Tech has been awful ATS at home. Mendenhall will have his guys fired up and they will win on the road.
